there are iso already done that way. Just find them. I think they are GCOS version. I got mine ready to burn. And you don't need to extract the file, your burning software should be able to "burn an image". With that option, you select the .iso and it burns the dvd as it should be.
What software are you using?

@gunblaze and @bbqwayne
1) Config discs are used to change some Wiikey settings ... In general they're not used unless needed, and, if things are running well on your Wii then you do not need to use them.
2) To burn your images I reccommend ImgBurn. It's free nd it comes with some nice guides in the forum section
3) The 1.9b Recover disc is used when, for any number of reasons, the Wiikey is non-responsive (non-functional). Basically, the disc attemps a Firmware-recover flash. The disc is inserted and run for 3-5 minutes, but users will see just a blank screen as the recover happens. The 1.9b recover file comes with directions.

ATTENTION RAFadawn, NDarkness and other senior members. I have run into an unusual problem. I initially thought the 3.1 version of my console is what was making my wiikey not work. However I see a lot of posts on this forum assuring me that 3.1U still works with the wiikey. My other thought is that because I got the wiikey 6 months ago, perhaps the firmware on it is too old to update to 1.9b/g directly? Please see below for the details of what I have tried.
I have a 3.1 USA Wii with all of the updates done on it as of December 28th 2007. I have an original WiiKey purchased from Modchip.ca 6 months ago (just installed it now). The installation went smoothly, I double checked all solder points via a multi-meter's continuity setting, all fine.
It does not read any of my back-ups, all of which have been verified as working on another modded Wii (US 3.0 version). It does not recognize (nothing shows up in the Disc channel) any of the config, update or recovery dvds I wrote. The only exception is the 1.2 Config disc. That is recognized as a GameCube game, but when I try to run it, I receive a black screen with white writing stating the following:
"An error has occurred.
Press the eject button, remove the
game disc and turn the power off.
Please read wii operations manual
for more information."
In case there was a bad burn somewhere, or maybe the media was bad, I have re-written everything below on dvd again.
I burnt the following discs on Verbatim 8x DVD-R Media (Media Code MCC 02RG20) at 4x using ImgBurn :
GCOS+Padded 1.9b Update disc (not working)
GCOS+Padded 1.9b Recovery disc (not working)
GCOS+Padded 1.3 Config disc (not working)
Padded 1.9b Update disc (not working)
GCOS 1.3 Config disc (not working)
Padded 1.9g Update disc (not working)
1.2 Config Disc (PARTIAL)
Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome!

If you have used the padded files from the first post, please download the original, unpadded ones and filechop them yourself. If, on the other hand you have used the unpadded ones, then download and use the padded ones from the first post. [In these cases it seems that different files have helped different people with their problems.. ?!?!... As somebody put it 'it seems that each Wii has its preference when it comes to all the versions of config/update files floating around'
The point is try files you have not tried before. proceed in this fashion:
1) 1.9b Recover disc (3-5 min)
2) !.9g
3) Config 1.3
If, you are unable to fix the problem via firmware, then obviously it could be a physical problem with the Wiikey. In this case, my suggestion is to open the case and inspect the solder points. Also, apply electric tape over the solder points in case there is some short.
Where's the party?!?

The DVDs I burned labeled GCOS+Padded are ones that I made using filechop and WiiUI. The one simply labeled Padded 1.9b/g are yours.

Can you elaborate about the 1.9b Recover disc (3-5 minutes)? Would I have some indication that the disc was recognized? At the moment, I have no means of getting the disc to run at all. I cannot start it as I would a game, I simply get an error that the wii does not recognize/read the disc when I go to the Disc Channel. Perhaps I am doing something wrong there?

I have considered that possibility as well, and as we speak I have a replacement wiikey coming. However, I am worried the problem is more sinister. The reason being the recognition of the 1.2 Config Disc as a GameCube game. My thinking being that if the wiikey was broken, I wouldn't even see the 1.2 config disc get recognized. Ultimately it does not work either, but the fact that a burnt DVD is recognized as a gamecube game makes me think the wiikey is sending some data to the right place (even if the disc won't get any further than the Disc Channel)...
This is why I am wondering if there are any older firmware updates available, perhaps circa 6 months ago? I don't know that it will be of any use, but its worth a try.

I've been lurking about, seeing if an answer appears.
I am in a very, very similar situation to 666 (I've inspected the solder, and tried all software changes but config 1.2)..
I get mostly the Disc Read Error, and sometimes the black screen saying to shut down.
I just read that I'm not supposed to verify with Image Burn, but I did have verify checked, since that was the advice for xbox burns. I have about a dozen Verbatim DVD+R backups that have performed flawlessly for up to 3 months, until today, when I put in a backed-up SMG (which played fine, but nothing worked afterwards).
Count me in for a solution, I'm feeling something sinister is amok, as well.

I have the exact same problem as 666 annd noseguy. I have tried everything they have with no success. Surely the Wiikey makers must have a solution or have they totally gone underground? Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated.

1) When running 1.9b Recover disc you would just see a blank screen ... you need to let the disc run 3 to 5 minutes and then test your Wii.
2) Try the file posted in this thread: LINK
3) More files here
4) Have you tried the Wii System Memory Format? Link [Just in case it hase something to do with cache memory..]

**UPDATE:
I got a back-up of my Zelda Collector's edition disc for the gamecube, and that works, I can play the game. The Wii back-ups still do NOT work.
Does anyone know what could cause something like this?
As I mentioned before, the config 1.2 disc also gets recognized as a GameCube game, but when I go to run it, it gives me the "An error has occurred" message.

Ok, so I am not doing something wrong here, since my 1.9b disc never even runs thru the Disc Channel.

I didn't want to lose my Internet Channel, as I think they are charging for that now, but I will try that last.
Thanks again for all your input & help RAFadawn.
Does anyone have ideas about why the Gamecube games are working but not the Wii?

***UPDATE***
Awesome! The Hacked Config disc at this link worked!
I first loaded up the hacked 1.2 file. Then I loaded the 1.2 config disc when I was prompted. I turned ON Region Free.
Then I loaded up the 1.3 disc and turned ON region free for Wii and GC again.
I then ran the 1.9b Update, which ran twice, and homer said "You are all nuts" right when I reset.
At that point, most of the back-ups started working. Except for Super Mario Galaxy.
I then did the 1.9g update, which also ran twice, and homer told me I am nuts again.
After that SMG worked. Some had reported all other back-ups stop working after a power ON/OFF, so I disconnected the wii from power and left it alone for 5 minutes. After I connected it back to power, everything still works.
So thank you RAFADAWN! You have made two little kids very very happy!

I DL'd that link.. There's a lot of files in it.. -I assume the 'BootableDisc_US.bat' file is the 'hacked 1.2 file' that I burn (US in my case).. -if that's correct, then where do I get the proper 1.2 config disc? Anyway, I burned that file, with image burn (verify off this time). I popped it in the wii, it doesn't show a GCOS disc in the channel and it still gives the DRE..
dang it

C'mon man.. you're killing me!!! ;=)
Did you even read the readme.txt file that comes with that?!?!?
All right ...
If you have a US Wii, then you double-click BootableDisc_US.bat.
That will create the image bootdisc.us.iso. That's the one you need to burn.
Then you run it and change the REGION settings. Then you run the 1.9g update (2x; test first, real updaten after).

I need to know this info:
1) What region is your Wii from?
2) Are you able to access your Wii's setiings (options)?
3) Can you play Originals? If not, what error do you get?
4) Can you play any of the backups? If not, what error do you get?
5) Has any of the Config or Update discs worked so far?
6) Any signs of life from the Wiikey?
Please answer them all. Thank you.
