It's not listed on the forwarding page. Maybe I did something wrong.

hi.i've read everything in this thread but couldn't find any info i'm looking for.
i'm using a dsl connection.modem is Aztech DSL700P.and my os is win98 2nd-ed.
i don't have a router(i think),i'm not behind a firewall(even uninstalled it!),normal download rate via http or ftp is 55 to 60kbps.my default gateway is the same as my ip address(how come?).i've called and mail my isp provider and the manufacturor, but not so successful
problem is my bittorrent speed is way too low(ranges from 1 to 5kbps or 10(even if there's 1000 seeders),if i'm lucky,i'm using ABC btw.a few months ago i dun have this kind of problem)i used port detective to check if ports 6881 to 6999 is opened.it said they are all opened, but i'm kinda unsure about it.i tried a nat test and it keeps on saying fail. i even change the torrent line to "C:\Program Files\ABC\ABC.exe" --ip X.X.X.X --minport 6881 --maxport 6999 --responsefile "%1"(it uped to 35kbps for a while then it goes back to 1kbps).i also put my ip on the advance settings preferance on the ABC action menu and put ports 6881 to 6999 on the network menu.i've mentioned that i have no firewall but ABC shows a yellow line(rarely green)
i've already exhausted evey option and i'm not sure what's next(i'm definitely NOT gonna format my hard-disk again like a few of my friends suggested, formatted it 3 times already)can anybody please help?i've been looking for ways to increase my d/l speed for a few weeks now(T.T)
i go to this place to see if i'm using nat but it says i'm not.here's the site:
http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/nat_or_not.php

i visited the website he provided. this is what they say..
initializing...
Your local IP address is 192.168.1.3
Your global IP address is 165.21.154.8
It would appear that your machine does use NAT.
Your machine has an IP address of 192.168.1.3,
but your browser connected to this page from 165.21.154.8!
You are in the private range: 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)
Weird. But my ip is not even 165.21.154.8, if i do a /dns on myself in IRC my ip is 219.74.107.75
Anyway, my torrent light is always green, does that mean i fail NAT test?

ok,here`s the tale, i have a peak broadband router with ports 6881-6999 forwarded, passed natcheck. my connection is 512k telewest broadband (free upgrade to 750k)no firewall enabled and windows xp firewall is disabled. i have a static ip address so as far as i can see i have done all i can do and still my downloads from bit tornado get no higher than 15k. if i unplug my router and connect directly to my pc it makes no difference to my speeds so i doubt if the router is the problem but what else can it be please help as 5 days for a 1.9 gig download is too long

hey all....long time reader first time poster
ok, i've done everything i read in this thread, and still haven't seen my dl jump above 5k i know it's not my connection because i tried dl'ing a demo from microsoft website and it peaked out and held consistently at 120k
i forwarded all of my ports, i even disabled the windows xp firewall (don't use any other one) this only resulted in my antivirus picking out about 30 virus attempts in 20 minutes
i also checked to see if maybe it was just the tracker i was using, so i tried random files with high seeds low peer and high peers low seeds and average both....still nothing
i've used just about every client i know of for at least two days, and still nothing more than 7k was the highest
any suggestions

looks like now our problem aint with the ports being block or any NAT. somehow it's jus slow.. there are some other problems.. I used to be able to get around 50 to 60kb/s. But after downloading loads of games and movies.. My download speed dropped drastically and nv got back to the state it used to be.

And if anyone else has some tips for me i'll be sure to try it and thank u for the other tips as well.

i use ad-aware to check if there's spyware(checked about 10 times, there's sure is alot of them n most of them are hard to detect "-.-).no viruses either.i managed to hit 44kbps but it dropped to 5 after 30min.i wonder if my ports are actually rejecting the d/l...(btw i set my u/l spd to 10kbps n the d/l spd increase alot but only for a short period of time T.T)
if it's not spyware or anyother stuff, what else can it be?
btw what does it mean if our ip address n the default gateway shows the same numbers?
also, ive found this site which tells u if yer ports r open:-http://www.auditmypc.com/freescan/selscan.asp?S=2066

I tried to go on the site that was provided by Kei.
It was really helpful but i don't really understand it since i'm new on this.
Two questions for anyone to answer please?
#1: Is it right to have ports opened or not? Does opened ports mean that the speed would increase or drop?
#2: What does UCP and TCP mean? I know what they stand for and everything but what is it exactly? I need major info on that one.
If anyone can help, thx!!!!!!!!!!
Btw, Kei was really helpful, thank u so much but sorry that i couldn't help.

Quote: #1: Is it right to have ports opened or not? Does opened ports mean that the speed would increase or drop?
usually opened ports means that the speed would increase dramatically(usually to the maximun speed of your connection).i'm not sure how to answer the second question though...
and dun worry bout unable to help.i dun expect the answer to appear right away^^.
but in my case, even with my ports opened my d/l speed would be at 1 to 10kbps.that's because my ip changes every few seconds.still need to get info on fixing this <_<.(a little something someone told me-If Y.Y.Y.Y(ip address shown from auditmypc.com)changes so often, it means your connection is firewalled and that connections are gated through several proxies. Unless those proxies are giving out your direct IP and the tracker can recognize it, it means you'll run in firewalled mode.)not sure what it meant though...
(my ip address shown from winipcfg.exe[X.X.X.X] is different from what is shown from auditmypc.com)
for zub7,those who have d/l spd of 100kbps usually have 512kbps cable modem connection or a 1mbps connection(via telephone line).for those with 512kbps connection that is using their telephone line usually get a maximun spd of 55 to 60kbps.(my cousin told me about this so i'm not sure if it's accurate.if it's not pls correct me ;p)hope this helps

thanks for the link but one of the problem is that i don't have a router so i can't do port forwarding.also,i have a phoneline dsl connection(can't remember what this type of connection called and my home can't use cable T.T) and i've also tried this method before.(which is the time that i realise i don't have a router)
also,i've noticed that for the when my ip(A.B.C.D) changes, only D changes.
are there any other methods to make my ip static?i'll try ANY method to make my d/l back to 60kbps again.(i'm kinda a little desperate cause my electricity bill is rising at a steady rate.i can't afford to have my pc to run 24/7 :p)also, are there any other methods to open ports without a router?
btw,my dsl connection is like a dialup connection.even when the modem is connected to the net,it needs to dial the local isp(dialup number is 0)

Alright. Firstly for people using a router. Set a static IP. www.portforward.com has all the steps for u to set up a static ip and then do the port forwarding for your respective router. A static ip means the internal ip never change, for example my static ip is 192.168.1.3, when u set a static ip, the port forwarding you do are one time changes which u do not need to do again since your ip doesnt change. As for kei, that ip that keeps changing is your external IP, find your pc's internal ip by clicking the start menu, go to RUN, type cmd and click ok. then type ipconfig /all
afterwards check the IP ADDRESS there, that should be the ip you are going to do port forwarding with.
I know all the steps to open up ports. But i think the problem with my pc itself is not with the ports becos i always have GREEN health, which means all my ports are opened. Sighz.. im taking 2 weeks to download my anime of 100+ episodes..

Usually, a person's ip doesnt change every second. I've not personally experience any ip changes every few second before and does not know what causes it. But the external ip changes everytime i reconnect.
