dlman2 ur router is listed on the www.portforward.com site and gives u all the instructions u need there. There appears to be two pages of instructions for u to follow , so go check it out and make sure u've done it all. Can anyone help me out with the trigger issue? Is the trigger a value given by bit torrent and therefore the same for all computers? Or is it set by the user and their router manufacturer?

yuckfu, your modem I am assuming came from your internet provider....first i would check at www.portforward.com and see if its in the list of routers....some modems act like a router and are listed here and then follow those instructions for forwarding your ports...or you could call or e mail the modem manufacturer and ask how to do this and they will usually walk you thru it, For anyone here to help you, we would need to know more than you have given us....like the make and model of the modem, your operating system. Also it would be beneficial for you to run a nat test http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl this will generally tell you where you are failing

I appreciate u trying to help me chocofiend, ok yes u are right that my adsl modem came from my internet provider and i have checked portforward.com but my modem is not listed there. The make of my modem is D-Link and the model is DSL-302G and i am currently operating windows xp professional edition (firewalls disabled, no other firewalls running). I am getting a new computer in the next few days so ill try bit torrent on that, and if it still doesnt work, ill post a msg here again. :) thanks again for the help (it would be good if u had a msn account so i can add u to my msn)

Erm.. I have 3 computers you see
192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 and 192.168.0.4..
if i have to configure 192.168.0.2, it'll be opening ports 6881-6889 for only 192.168.0.2 right? what about 192.168.0.3 and 192.168.0.4? I can't open up the same ports as it's a conflict of ports. Also, have you guys experienced slow firewalled downloads for only one tracker, while other sites are doing fine?

Thanks for the advice chocfiend.. however, does that mean my downloads for each computer will not get incoming connections from the ports not forwarded to them? Also, to anyone out there, do you get varying firewall statuses depending on the tracker? i.e to say sometimes it's green sometimes it's yellow.

mongbat....can't help u there, I just know that you have to divy up the ports amongst the three computers. Otherwise only set up one computer for bit torrent with all the ports.

Does anyone know why my downloads in Azureus keeps jumping up and down? I am one of the unlucky ones not able to speed up the BitTorrent downloads. I followed the step-by-step instruction off of DLink's website and I still cannot get the desired speed. I followed a link that someone provided earlier and I have confirmed that ports 6881-6889 are opened.

Does everyone's downloads jump? For example, one second it's 10k/s and the next second it's 0k/s. It'll stay at 0 for awhile and pick up again. HELP! Does Fast Resume Mode have anything to do with it?

Please help, i have forwarded the ports on my speed touch series 510 router and i have added the ports to the security settings in windows xp, i have disabled the firewall on xp and still i am lucky if i am running at 10kb/s. I am currently using Torrent storm and i have tried bittornado and a few others but they were all slower than Torrent storm. If you need to go through this in detail people can find me on msn messenger my nickname is J-PICKUP1.

At the risk of sounding really stupid...

I am using a wireless connection and I've tried following everyone's advice on opening ports but I can't follow the steps because my options don't match up.

I suspect it would help if I knew what my router was. But I'm not good at this game, so can someone tell me how do I find out what my router is?

I'm using windows xp on a Toshiba satellite laptop with a corega wireless card to a cable connection, and that's about the extent of my knowledge on this subject.

Please help me because I am trying to download something large and it's going to take me a month to download at my current rate.

What does a failed natcheck mean?

I forwarded my ports (6881 - 6889), according to the directions on http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/ports.asp but it hasn't made any difference. I can't get my download speed any higher than 6kbps.

petite... it can mean a variety of things....the check site I like gives you the details of what failed and therefore what needs to be addressed. Ok as for the site you spoke of, that appears to only be the instructions for opening ports on the xp firewall. That is not your ports for your router or modem. Check out this site and see if your router (or modem if you don't use a router) is listed and then follow the detailed instructions www.portforward.com

Thanks for the suggestions. Actually, I am in Japan and my router is not listed. I have gone to the online gateway access thing, but it's all in Japanese. All the same, I made some educated guesses and opened ports, I think, but it hasn't changed anything. I think my router firewall is overly paranoid and is never going to let me increase my download speeds.
