hozer in order for this to work u must set your ip to a static ip address. Go to the site www.portforward.com click on router find ur router or the one that looks like your screen when you put the ip address into your browser and then follow the steps identically. The first step is how to set a static ip address.

I'm workin on it

Hey I have read the whole thread and still can not figure out my router. Problem I understand all the port forwarding and have done this before. But i have some levitron router as it is a home multimedia system for the house. I dont know the login/pw to even access the system. I never set it up and have no idea. Any help would be appreicated. I have tried leaving them blank. Admin/Admin Admin/Password, Admin/Blank etc...

thanks

Ok, I have read the whole thread. I understand it and I want it but I am falling down at every step.

System
XP Pro
Azureus
Speedtouch 330 adsl modem.

Tried to set a dynamic IP address but the dialogue box only contains:
IP Address
Prefered DNS
Alternative DNS
>>>>No Subnet, No Gateway

Looked up my modem on www.portforward.com - not listed, and no help on manufacturers site

Currently I can not get a d/l above 12

Any help and advice is much appreciated.

It will be alright, won't it?

Hello

I did all of what CamDog recommended, yet my speeds dont go over 20 Kib/sec. Is there something else that I need to do or can change?

I use the classic BitTorrent ver 3.4.2 by Bram Cohen, use Peer Guardian for security and also have the Win XP firewall (configured for 6881~6889). My connection speed is 100Mbps and use a linksys router

Chocofiend, thanks for your help but I think I have the answer. I tried ABC - no joy. Contacted Speedtouch o be told that all ports are already open. The truth is that the Speedtouch is just a DSL Modem - No Router! That is why I don't get the full list of options in the network dialogue box and why I am unable to play with the speedtouch port settings.

Does that sound about right?

If so, next question is can you recommend a good modem/router (on the low end of the cash scale) and is it better to go for a network connector type or USB?

Tx

It will be alright, won't it?

Alright I saw some mentions about using a hub but no definate answers. I have a linksys 5port workgroup hub.
I am sharing the DSL connection from another computer. That computer DLs Torrents at an average of 50kbs. I only get 5kbs if that. I had torrentstorm now I have Azerus. Both had the same result. I did the NAT test and it failed. So yeah. I am a torrent whore so would really like some speed. T_ThanX_X

poshmod i have a dsl modem and a linksys router and a linksys hub....i only had to forward the ports on the router not the hub but each computer on the network can only have some of the ports assigned to them. In addition you both have to have a static ip address. This is the single most reason I keep seeing as to why this is not working for people. Because they forward the ports only.

jessplus user name is admin password is blank I believe, also winmx has ports that it uses that will need to be opened as well (tcp 6699 and udp 6257) ....please check out www.portforward.com for step by step instructions for your router. It is listed there.

scubadog....some modems allow you to forward ports the same as a router, apparantly yours does not. I use linksys and I like it and they are reasonable. As for usb vs network, maybe someone else could give u better insight there....Mine is network and it works just fine. I do know a lot of people are having issues with wireless.

receptor the one thing camdog does not tell u is to make sure u have a static ip address. Also try some different clients and play with the settings til u get ur best speeds. Don't know how hot the dl's were u were trying and please don't tell me lol not allowed... but if there aren't plenty of seeds etc ur speeds are going to be slow. Also ur speed will be tied to the speed of those uploading.

When I type in admin for the password, the password window stays open and it never loads the linksys site. I've given up. It took me 3 days to download a file. I did the download test someone suggested and it says I have good download speed. When I download a file from a website like an application it dl fast, but from file sharing it is soooooo slow. What I want to know is why the difference?
