This board has been a lot of help. Just one more question for now and then i should be set. I have a leviton 4port router. I got the settings menu to pop up and have some question about that. My options are differnt then the way everyone elses look. I have section that says Packet Filtering-then a sub menu-port rule. Im assuming this is where i set it up. Here you can add rules . First you choose TCP/or UDP not both. Then FTp/Http etc... but i would choose user defined and set my own port. Is this what i would do ffor bit torrent for every port. Just go through and do it for udp/tcp for every port?
THanks in advance

I've read this entire thread, and nothing has helped increase my speed. I still do not exceed 10 kbps d/l and 15 kbps u/l. I'm on a laptop and am using wireless internet. I've gone to portforward and found my router (Netgear WGR614 v4, Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802.11), I've forwarded the ports for Azureus, I've run a NAT only to get failure, I've disabled my Windows XP firewall, and I still have nothing except yellow faces...someone help me please!

jessplus2 the user name is blank the password for linksys is admin by default unless u set a password for it at some time and then u should kno wut it is lol so I doubt u did. Please go to www.portforward.com Your specific router is listed there. I looked it up today. They give you very easy to understand instructions including screen shots to follow. But first follow their instructions to set up a static ip address. Without this it will not work. http://portforward.com/linksys/befsx41.htm this link is for your particular model

Markbmcfc and Queeny...the address to be typed in the browser is not the computer's ip address. Here's the easiest way to ensure you are using the right address. Go to start then run then type in command or cmd, you will get a black dos box, type in ipconfig /all then scroll down and watch for ip address subnet mask default gateway etc. The value for default gateway is what u r looking for. When u type it into ur browser type it in just after the http://

ok splittor if u failed the nat test u most probably did not forward ur ports correctly. If you did you would not have failed. what exactly did the test results say? Run it again if u don't remember. And how about the static ip address? You have to do it. Also I know of a lot of people who have difficulty with azureus. You might want to try a different client once you pass a nat check.

tarheel, I haven't forgotten you lol ok its very difficult to be familiar with every brand obviously, but it does sound like you have the right spot. It sure would be nice if the manufacturers would standardize these settings lol but in the meantime...ok a lot of routers will allow you to insert a range instead of putting in each port separatly. See if thats possible, also my router has tcp, udp and both so I don't have to duplicate that either. Check it for yours.

choc,
Mine doesnt. It the packed/port rule the right place. I added from 6881-6889 on tcp/udp minus one b/c you can only have 15. It was strange. I dont know if this is port forwarding. I still fail nat check. Must i do this on all 3 networked computer or change any other settings? other settings u can change on the menu u are ....
Domain Name
Computer Name
Force DHCP Renew Enable Disable minute(s). (10~86400)
DNS Server Auto Manual
DNS Server 1 . . .
DNS Server 2 . . .
DNS Server 3 . . .
DNS Server 4 . . .
and
then a lan congig/wan config/dmz/ and virtual server/ then packet filtering where the port rule is. and then fixed/exulcued ip table. and static routing table.
This is all the settings please let me know. Your are a lot of help and very patient.

It was my Gateway number i was typing into my browser. It doesnt work! doesnt send me to my router. Whats wrong with the twat? this sort of crap which works on every1 elses computer since 1AD except mine is quite usual for me(my computer chuckles). It likes playing games with me and is doing so with this gateway ip. It says mine is 81.97.164.254

tarheel wow That is a really strange setup. When you ran the natcheck wut did it say in reference to failing? As far as the setup goes, I'm drawing a blank about ur setup tho as none of those items are related to port forwarding. As persistant as I am in figuring things out for myself lol I know my limitations. I have to tell u I think u need to contact Leviton and get them to walk u thru it or use their e mail support. But make sure all three computers on the network have a different static ip address assigned first. And deal with any firewalls u have running first as well. Ask ur manufacturerer if there is a built in firewall as part of this setup as well. This may be a pain to get working but its worth it in the end so persevere.

tarheel just so we're clear here...if u have three computers on the network and u want all three computers to be able to use bit torrent, each has to have a static ip address, and each computer will have different ports opened for that computer. U can't open the full range of ports for each computer. Does that make any sense to u? I hope I explained ok.

Do you really need to open the entire range of ports? Why would you want to do this over opening just one port?
Thanks

Since there's been no answer yet let me speculate that there's no need to open up any more than one port.
A good case to back up my claim is azerus which only uses one port. I still can't see any need to open up more than one port. Why would the client want to bind to many ports? Is there something that will increase performance doing this?

Chocfiend, it still doesnt work, this is my computer setup:
One linksys WRT54G broadband router, 3 wireless pci network adapters in each of the 3 machines, two computers setup using the windows network setup wizard, they are DHCP with a default gateway of 192.168.0.1 which is the static ip addy of the other machine, which has the internet connection. Then they all use the net using ICS of course. No firewall software or xp firewall.
Router has static ip of 192.168.0.2, cant get into it using the web browser and my bit torrent downloads are slow, forwarded all my ports before my router setup went dodgy, still all yellows but do occasionally get high speeds. Any ideas?

I finally figured out how to get into the linksys router and I did the port thing. No change. Is there any way to undo the changes to my router?

Hey.. i have done port forwarding and i know it succeeds already. My torrent download is always GREEN. Im connected to 12 seeds and 56 peers with a total speed of 800kb/s. Why is it so that my dl nv go higher than 10KB/s? Normally i should be able to do 150KB/s for downloading via the normal way (not torrent). But using torrent i am not utilising my max speed. Im using Alcatel SPeedtouch 570, i know in my case, its not the way portforwarding is done wrongly. Becos the light is GREEN! Pls help.
