shmacro....call ur isp tell them u need to open the ports do not just open one open at least 10 They should be able to walk you thru this. Your other option is to get a router even if you only have one computer to hook to it. You would still continue to use the modem from your isp then connect that to the router and configure it. If you choose this route I would recommend you choose one that is listed on portforward.com so you will have clear instructions on the directions. Personally I like linksys. I would also try a different client. I like ABC

I picked up a linksys router and opened up my ports, but I'm still getting speeds no better than 15 k/s
is there something I'm missing?

shmacro run another natcheck also I am not familiar with win2000 but xp has a built in firewall you might want to check if you do also try another client. I personally recommend ABC also did u set a static ip address?

NAT check showed I'm good to go, but I'm having trouble setting up a static IP - is it the IP displayed under my ethernet settings, or the IP under my PPPoE/Internet connection?
Also, ABC was running ridiculously slow - after an hour, I was still going at 0.5 k/s.

I've read that before, but my problem is when I run ipconfig, I get two sets of IP addresses - do I want my ethernet or my ISP? On portforward, it only shows one.

ok, I've taken care of setting up the static IP, but my dls are still around 2-4 k/s with 25 peers and 14 seeds. the ports are forwarded, static IP set, but still slow speeds.

I have a speedtouch dsl modem/router and when I connect to bittorrent through it (having forwarded ports) it all is OK.
However when I route the connection further through a dlink 614+ the yellow faces start to appear.
I have tried everything I can think of (opening all ports etc), but the dlink seem to hinder my bittorrent connection in some way

fido the dlink will need to be configured as well. Did you do this? Read the info on the following link and determine if you need to open your ports on the d link or set it up for port triggering. Then follow the instructions. Also did you set a static ip address first? And if you are using xp did you open your ports on the built in firewall or disable it? http://portforward.com/dlink/di-614+.htm

Thanx for your help, but have opened all ports on the dlink, have a static ip-address and no firewalls... And remember it works if I drop the wireless dlink router
Perhaps there are some issures between the dsl modem/router and the wireless dlink router...

Hi Folks,
Seems like we are all having these problems.
I am too. I have a netgear wgr614. Ports are forwarded and triggered. Followed the steps as shown to increase upload to 10, enter local ip, etc...
I cannot break the 5kb/s mark on ABC.
No firewalls, xp firewalls- nothing. Just a dsl modem inbetween.
I wonder if sympatico can close these ports without us knowing.
Any thoughts team?

Further to my last post. I never heard of azureus before until this thread so i decided after my last post to try it- just for fun.
Well unbelievably- my d/l speed jusped to about 90kb/s from no more than 5kb/s.
All i have set-up is the ports forwarded from 6881-6999 and left the azureus incoming listen port to 6881 and whammo.
I'm shocked. does this mean ABC is no good?

I use ABC and my uploads are not set at 10. I have uploads set to 5 and spped for uploads while downloading at 5 speed for uploading while not dl is max. Play around with your settings to find what is good for you.
