kiosk, if you are networked with more than one computer....all computers must be configured. Also did you set a static ip address (for all computers)? Speed is also dependent on how many people are downloading the file simultaneously, is this particular file cold now?
I'm workin on it

Chocfiend, you seem to know your stuff and everyone seems happy with youso can i beg for your help? Every forum i go to or website i go on either doesnt explain it clearly enough or doesnt explain exactly my problem, here goes:
Ive got a linksys wireless-g broadband router (WRT54G) and three wireless networked computers. Im experiencing the same problems as everyone else with slow download speeds whilst downloading torrents, using Torrentstorm, my LED is always yellow and not green and i will be lucky to get over 10k, sometimes i have got to about 15/16k but very rarely.
Ive gone through the port forwarding steps, ive put all the ip addresses of the router and the computers into the portforwarding table. But still no luck.
Its difficult over here so my msn is markbmcfc@hotmail.com can you add me please so i can get this sorted? Even you want to answer over here then fine, whatever you prefer. Thanks for your time.

Look guys it might be you ISP that blocks ports such as 6881.So its safer to set port to 4882 for example.
I have set in Azureus TCP port to 4882 and tracker port to 4889.
Is it possible that antivirus such as Avast may slow your dl speed?
Btw i have only strange problems while DLing files greater than 3GB.Has anyone heard of this before?I get a decent speed[between 80 and 100] for 3 hours and than boom, it drops to 30 to 40.But only wiht 3GB+ big files.
I have only antivirus and no router,firewall.Win2000pro i use.
You wont believe it but the best DL rate i get if UL rate is set to 15 of 32 available...which is somehow bad because i have to seed longer.

Sorry, I just had to add in a comment that I did the port forwarding and am now getting 30-40k vs 1-4 k. I'm still in the early stages of studying for CCNA, but from what I know, this does nothing to bypass any firewall/security on your computer, all it does is make it easier for the router to know where to forward the packets of data.

I was just wondering if im connected to 12 seeders and 80 peers-is there a possibility to get max DL speed?
Lets say that peers and seeds are DSL/Cable users since the file is large.Total speed is 1MB/s.
What do you think?

Garrett33..
not realy.. right now i'm downloading 4.5gb file w/ 241 peers and 28 seeds, my speed is 50-80kbs. to get max speed, mostly if there's alot of seeds and lest peer; however this is not aways true. My other 4.3gb torrent is dling 145-190kbs w/10 seeds and 108 peers. The speed you are getting depand on the peers and seeds ur connecting to; are they giving high upload speed or not. example when i'm dling, i set my upload speed at max 4kbs. if the 12 seeds and 80 peers you are conneting to all set upload 4kbs, it will be slow because the total speed is about 360kbs and sharing with 80 people.

becuse UL vS DL. set Low UL will increase DL speed. "FOR ALL WHOM HAD READ THIS" After you had compeleted dl what u want, please set UL unlimited and seed for a day AT LEASE." THANKS

I figured out why my connections were so slow. I would advise using BitTornado instead of Azureus. Since Azureus is Java based, it eats up too much CPU power. Anyway, I switched to BitTornado and opened up the ports and now I get 100k+ downstream.

for sushi794 and you with similar replys:theres nothing wrong with azuerus or your cables->its all about ports.
We[with Dlman2] are discusing here about big files experiences-i dont have any problems with ordinary files.
Dlman2 I assume you have 256KB/s max DL speed and 64KB/s max UL speed? You dont have to set UL speed that low->i have max ULspeed 32 and its set to 15.
Its just something confusing me.At the same conditions i get like 30/40 and then suddenly 70KB/s DL speed.I dont think people are changing UL speed so much. And then it rises up to 90 and after a few hours a big drop to 30KB/s.This is somehow strange.
Just in case->how to check if adsl modem has blocked ports? Not router...But in this case i would not be able to DL any file at decent speed.
Ive tryed decreasing max number of peers im connected to and its worse.

I haven't had time to read this entire thread, it's very good btw. but a quick tip. look at your network cards address - it's bound to be something like 192.168.100.27 ok the 192.168.100 part defines a level3 network (private). Odds are extremely good your routers ip address is gonna be whatever those first three numbers are with 1 as the last number.
This works with pretty much all the routers I have dealt with from Linksys to Sharp and eagle and a bunch of others. Hope that helps.

ok today i just forwarded ports on my linksys router.. i dont use xp's built in firewall and i have kaspersky antihacker firewall that i sometimes use but shut it down for the torrent prog.. i use the newest bit tornado program.. and i still only get avg of 10 kb/s down and 25kb/s up im on a cable modem that has just been up graded to a down load and upload rate of faster than a t1 modem. i was wondering if maybe getting a different torrent program will help or if it just the torrent file itself.. if anyone is willing to help by checking out the torrent them selves.. im "borrowing" Empires dawn of the modern world via the torrent file located on isohunt's website.. if anyone wants the torrent to check it and see if its me or the file.. my msn is th3darkrose@hotmail.com send me a msg and ill send you the torrent file.. i will also try and use some other programs that you guys use and see if that helps.. but its not only this torrent that im dloading that does this.. its 99% of the torrents.. i routed and everything and still have yellow light.. thank you for all the help you have given.. =)

I'm in the uk, using cable broadband from telewest. I use XP and have used 2 bit torrent clients. Currently trying ABC.
My d/l speed doesn't usually get above 10, but has done, never had more than 40 and when I have had 40 is doesn't stay at that speed.
I don't know anything about routers so can't follow those instructions, but I have allowed my XP firewall access on ports 6881-6889 on tcp & udp and allowed Norton access on those ports as well and the transfer rate is the same.
I have now done the natcheck & am failing on every port. I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
Any ideas?
I have worked out I have a PCI Ethernet adaptor but can't seem to get into the place to add the ports.

Ceri your ethernet adapter has nothing to do with opening ports. You have not oppened your ports on your modem or router and that is why your natcheck failed. Are you using a router or only a modem? If it is a modem supplied by your internet provider call them, they will usually walk you thru opening the ports. If you have a router use this site. It tells you step by step what you must do. http://portforward.com/cports.htm
