has anyone got a similar spec like this?
===============================================
Operating system: Windows XP
CPU: Athlon XP 1.7
"ROUTER": Dlink 704p revision b
Torrent program: Bitcomet
Cable hardware: Motorola SB4200 SURFboard
Connection: australia optus cable
===============================================
the problem is that my dl speed is always between 1 to 10kbps. IT IS very frustrating that everyone else downloads at a rate of 100kb or so...please help me. Also i have applied port forwarding with my router using that website and i also did a NAT check and i passed... i did everything that www.portforward.com said yet i am still running a very low speed. I think it has to do with what darjam has been saying... getting a static ip from my provider(optus).
So can anyone who understands this a lot add me into his msn contact? email address: ironmask40@hotmail.com
thanks a lot!!

When i try to connect to my routers IP like described on the 1st page i get a timedout error every time i try it.When try normal ip on http is connection refused.
Is there another way to get access to the ports 6881-6889 etc?
So i cant proceed and try this steps.I am using the original bittorent and bittornado yet but it never gets better than yellow state and describes something of possibly firewall
and/or proxy setting reasons. The download speed is never over 9 kb/s but the upload speed although not very high nearly always higher than mine. Most times its 0-2 kb/s.Maybe one these problems is that i am connected to our uni-server.
Can anyone help me please??

I too have a problem with speedtouch 570...I set up my static ip address n forwarded the ports 6881-6889 but my speed is still going at 0-5kb/s
I'm using azureus and it keeps giving me the yellow smiley face...(before that i was using bittornado and same thing, it's always yellow)
my questions are :
Did i forward my ports correctly? How do you actually do it?
Did i set up the client correctly?
thank you very much

can u take a screen shut of your setting?
to take screen shut "Alt PrtScr"
Richiee...
I don't think you have enter the right address...
try 192.168.0.1
elfin...
need to setup port forward in azureus too. azureus has different port. located in view-configuration-server...enter 6881 in the "incoming TCP port" box..

Ok in the first place, a static IP is not REQUIRED for the fast downloads. A static IP is jus to make it easy so that you will not have to re forward your ports everytime u reconnect. You can still download at a fast speed without a static IP. You only need a static IP if your download is always at YELLOW status. When your status is at YELLOW. It indicates that your ports are blocked. To do so, u need to do portforwarding.
Elfin: You need to do port forwarding, if you have done it, you are not doing it correctly if you still have a yellow smiley after around 10 to 20 mins of downloading.
Note: When you are asking for help, pls state the status of your download. Is it RED? BLUE? YELLOW? OR GREEN STATUS. So that we know what help do u need. It would also be helpful if you state what type of router and modem you are using. Not everybody might have a router though..

when u have too many downloads. the other downloads uses other port other then 6881. therefore that means u forwarded only a few ports. do port forwarding for around 6881 to 6890 or even more. as for the green health status having a slow download. that i cant help. becos im having a same problem. but sometimes other files i tried has no problem. i think it might be the tracker's problem. but im not very sure of it.

still confused...still stuck with yellow light...
i set a static ip and followed the steps given at www.portforward.com, but htere are still a few things i'm not sure about. First, must the static ip be setup for the other computers at home for this to work?. Second, when port forwarding, i still haven't figured out what the name of the application is that i should allocate the port range to. Is it FTP? Or DNS? I don't know...thrid, in hte advanced options of the network internet protocol TCP/ip properties there is a netbios settings option. should it be on default or should it be enabled.. i never heard of anyone saying it should be enabled but it seems like it should be from the description given there. Could be a sercutrity issue...
something has got to give me the green light...

siber,
you must have figured out that I was on your computer when I wrote those messages....know who it is.... now I have my own identity so i'll starting being me and you can go back to being you. didn't mean to cause an identity crisis
to the rest of the forum...
I'm stilll having trouble with the yelow light, i am using a linksys BEFSP41 v.3 router and Windows XP, I am not behind a firewall, I tried to forward my ports, but no green yet.
Does a static Ip need to be setup for all the computers behind the router for PF to work?
What if the other computer uses DHCP to connect( he has an old ethernet card )? I left DHCP enabled on the router configuation but still assigned each computer a static Ip via Network Connections. Does this make sense or do i need to try something else..

OK, Ladies and Gents, have just spent 5 hours trying to get this correct......so where do we start with Bittorent download speeds....
If you have Z0N3ALARM Remove it now....I never had a problem with it before...yes I installed it for ease of use and did not have any probs until I tried version 5 almost pooched the box so i removed it and put ver 4.5 back on but my pc still kept on freezing...sure there are better products out there like firewall 1 or ISA etc....but they cost$$...
With ver ZA 5....my pc started Freezing, couldn't download torrents...or the torrent started but died after a fews mins of inactivity....
So you've been through opening ports and Port forwarding on the linksys etc...
You've played with the Upload/Download rates
You've changed torrent clients....
Read up on seeds and related speeds,
disabled Windows XP firewall
Waited longer than 30 mins
and nothing has changed your BT speeds.....
REMOVE ZoneAlarm...OH did I mention that was terrible too...had to upgrade to the latest version 5 and then uninstall....had to add a "/clean" to the uninstall shortcut but after I uninstalled ZA and used Syagate Personal firewall I haven't had a single problem and am watching my torrent download at 60kb :-) ++
Well now that ZA is off I will never put that junk back on....

Hello just found this board today and went through all the postings and I can not find anything that is the same as my comp and was looking for help.
I am running Windows XP, with Bit Torrent 3.4.2, I am also using a Linksys Home and small office cable/Dsl 4 port router model NR041-CA, I could not find this on the web pages suggested. I am living in Canada, Using High speed internet and takes me half a day to a day and a half for downloads. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who is willing to help me out so I can increase my speeds.
Thank you

I'm connected to the net via LAN. My local IP add is 192.168.0.55 and our server is 192.168.0.1.
The server connects via 128 kbps DSL via Prestige 645 Xyzel router. I'm using Windows XP Pro.
I'm behind the firewall and created port opening via TCP ranging 6881-6899 binded to my Local IP. I opened the port in the router via accessing the 192.168.1.1 to set the port ranges 6881-6999 binded to my Local IP.The router address in the network is 192.168.33. And the internet connection in the server is 192.168.0.1.
Why everytime I download using Bit Tornado I've get the yellow light and I still stuck to 2 kbps rate? Do I need to reboot the Server to take settings effectively? Please help me. Thanks

Tormented. You are set-up correctly. But take a look at the total speed.. 159 KB/s only! you cant get a fast speed becos the peers u are connected to doesnt upload at fast speed. Maybe some of them are 56k users, without good peers with fast upload speed. you cant reach ur max speed. and btw. Using SUPER SEEDER when you are still downloading.. reduces the tracker greatly. Please dont use it if your downloading. jus change ur upload rate to 10kb and around 4 max upload. It will help greatly. And for people that keeps asking how to do portforwarding.. pls *#&$@&*$ read the POST NUMBER 1 FROM CAMDOG, or jus go to www.portforward.com nobody is gonna help u with questions that have been asked all thruout the few dozen pages.
