Let's see:
1) Does your Wii read original Wii games?
2) How about Wii backups?
3) Can you play GC games?
4) What firmware does your Wii have?
5) Was you Wiikey up-to-date?
6) Are you using DVD-R discs?
7) Are you burning them at 4x?
8) What software are you using to burn discs?
9) Do you know what FILECHOP and MAKING A GCOS DISC mean?
please, answer all questions in order. I'll help you.

Let's try to use the HACKED 1.3 disc.
Follow the direction in this post.
Please burn on DVD-R at 4x.

Rafadawn,
Please read my post on the last page of the modchip discussion dated 01/13/2008 addressed to you. I basically sent the same info to the company that I purchased the chip from, and they notified me today that they are replacing it at no charge. There may have been a bad batch of them out there.

I would now try the 1.9b Recover disc(let it run 3 to 5 minutes
Then try the HACKED 1.3 disc you just made.

Thanks for the post, Bill.

So, it appears that there might be a bad batch of Wiikey chips around. That could explain the recent increase in Black Screen problems.
Check with the seller to see if you can get an exchange like Bill did.

From the Readme that comes with the 1.9b recover disc:
Burning the recovery disc image
-------------------------------
As media support in Recovery Mode is limited we recommend you
use DVD-R only for the recovery disc. Burn it with Toast, Image
Burner, or cdrecord.

Performing the update
---------------------

- Switch on Wii and eject any disc in drive
- Insert recovery disc and reset Wii
- Wait for at least 3 minutes. There will *not* be any sign that
the wiikey is recovering, and the recovery disc will not appear
in Wii menu.
- Power off the Wii and switch it back on again. wiiKey should
now have recovered its firmware, and EEPROM will be restored to
default settings.
|
If, after this, your Wii still does not recognize GCOS discs then we're looking to a dead chip.
In general, when the Wiikey has problems with Wii backups and does not accept regular config or update discs, there only two things we can do:
1) Try GCOS versions
2) Try the RECOVER disc and then GCOS and/or regular versions.

The only suggestion I can give you is totry to have the folder Config 1.3 as a first level folder on your HD.(e.g. C:\Config1.3). Maybe a path too long is causing this problem.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I just discovered you don't need a GC controller to operate the GCOS disc. You simply use the reset button on your wii to navigate. tapping the reset button scrolls through the options, while holding it down opens/accepts the option.
Now i dont have to travel out tomorrow to get a GC controller!

I have a problem regarding SMG ntsc(J). I have a wiikey on a japanese wii. My wii is actually semi bricked and I have installed the firmware 1.9g. I don't know which game semi bricked my wii but it is probably either Guitar hero 3 US or link crossbow Pal.
However, it neither fi my semi bricked wii and I stil can't play the game after following the tutorial.
Can someone tell me how I shold proceed exactly to unbrick my wii and eventually play SMG?

A couple more things:
1) Download the original 1.9g, burn it to DVD without filechopping (no GCOS). Try this DVD 15 times.
2) If 1 does not work, then filechop original 1.9g, burn it to DVD (no GCOS). Try it 15 times.
3) if 2) does not work, then download 1.9g, filechop it, make a GCOS image with WiiUI. Burn the image and try it 15 times (You will need a GC controller to run GCOS discs)
If you have these discs already try them out in the sequence I gave you and report back.

1) It looks like your Wiikey is working, since it recognizes the GCOS discs. However there is something causing some weakness in the Wii's ability to read the discs.
2) At this point I would lower the burning speed down to 1x.
Try to filechop the original files yourself. Do not use the padded images. Definetly burn them as GCOS with WiiUI.

1) Keep tryng the update ... last time I had somebody post that he had to try 20 times in a row before the update went through.
2) Try to let the 1.9b Recover disc run for 3 to 5 minutes before trying the 1.9g update.
3) Does the hacked 1.3 Config disc run?

i don know about the hacked config 1.3 but i do have one that i HEX edited and it works fine.I basically run it then put the original 1.3 config afterwards.
OMG i have to keep trying the same way?? that's tedious

ok i burned SMG NTSC USA and my wii couldn't even read the disc.
I'm starting to realize that the brand(DVD-R) i'm using is the reason here.

I require expert help.
I recently modded my 3.1U Wii. Now I'm no soldering expert, but I've soldered before. I installed a WiiKey via the "long wire" method, so it would be easier to remove if necessary. I'm pretty confident in my soldering job because I checked the continuity on points "3, 4, 5 & 6" between the legs of the nearby chip on the DVD board and those of the WiiKey controller chip. For points "1 & 2" (the big circles) I tested between the board and the two sides of "C2" on the WiiKey.
I haven't done anything else except try to update to 1.9g and I have met with no success. I've tried:
(All burnt on 16x Verbatim DVD-R @ 4x using ImgBurn)
1.9g Beta Fix unpadded
1.3 config disk unpadded
1.2 config disk unpadded
1.3 hacked unpadded
1.9g Beta Fix padded
1.3 GCOS+padded config
1.9b padded
I'm kind of discouraged at this point so I've come for some advice.
Should I be using the hacked bootloader padded instead? Should I recheck my soldering job? Waste more DVDs trying random combinations of GCOS and padded disks? What do you recommend?
Thanks,
-Jixtreme
