I have a Linksys and have:
Set a static IP
Forwarded ports on router (61101-61110)
Opened ports on ZA (61101-61110)
I use these ports instead and I've heard that's ok and safer (is this correct?)...I have the same problem of only getting yellow...the one piece of info that I hope helps someone figure this out is that if I use my laptop (wireless) I get green d/l'ing the same torrent as my wired desktop comp...it is set up the same as far as I can tell...by being wired can that be any different than wireless?

Quote: trazzall I'm not sure I'm following you but i'll give it a shot. Whatever modem u r using has to have the ports opened. What is the make and model of modem?
I have an Intel PCI 56k Standard Modem :(
I use this to connect to AOL on standard dial-up.
I also have a satellite PCI card in my pc and when I connect via a website and login I can download at speeds around 100kb/s or so. This uses a socks 5 proxy ip, so I have to tell the ftp or other programs to use this socks proxy to get the download speeds :) There's no cable in my area so it is the only way to get half decent speeds.
I don't have a router or modem that I can get into and change or open ports.

Alright - I signed up with atferdawn.com just so I could post in this thread.
*I am having HUGE troubles*
I am using Bitstorm, and my downloads range from 0.05KB/s to 4KB/s (MAX!)
I have tried opening all my ports using the Windows XP thing.
I also have ZoneAlarm pro. I enabled it to let the selected ports pass.
I do NOT have a Router - but I have a HUB - does that matter at all?
I've tried Nathash or whatever - and it came back saying that it could get through to my IP adress and client - but it thought my HASH ID was wrong, when it was not. So I failed that.
I looked on Port Forward for my HUB - but they do not list HUBs, and I couldn't find it under any Router listing.
Please help!
Windows XP
Zonealarm Pro
Bitstorm 1.3.0.0
Ports: 6881-6999 (Only using 6881-6883).
I have also tinkered and tweaked my client to bits with no sucsess. PLEASE advise!!
Thanks for your time,
-Gubru

have u try disable Zonealarm & see it work? because Zonealarm cause alot of problem.
HUB has no port; nothing to set, don't bother. my suggesttion is getting a router. it will help alot.
If u have a router, u can disable your xp firewall as well. this way has lest interference; u will get max dwonload.

My situations:
ISP: lightspeedwireless.net 4000bps down / 2000bps up
router: Linksys BEFSR41 v3
Modem: proxim Tsunami mp 11a
System: 2600+ amd 728mg
I read all 18 pages, cost me hours. Anyway, I did everything recommended. Set static Ip, forward ports 6881-6999 trigger port 6969. Disable XP firewall, update router firmware. I used abc 269 but it's slow as hell(locks up more often). Before that, I use the 268 and it was fast(70-150k DL 7 torr simultaneously), switch back and forth and still the same (slow 10-20k). Now my new client is azureus, I notice I connect to more peers but speed pretty much the same(20-30k DL 9 torr simultaneously). Prolly got snubbed too much.
Here is my NAT test result in Azureus 2.1.0.4
6881 - 6885 failed, 6886-6889 ok. Therefore i input my default port as 6886.
Does anyone have any ideas why my ports 6881-6885 didn't pass? The only reason I paid for broadband is bc the invention of P2P. And now it's fvcked me up. If I cannot fix this shiet I'm gonna go back to dial up.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MEeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLZzzzzzzzzzzzz

From what I heard - getting a Router would just cause more troubles, right?
And then there's the fact that I really don't need a router.
I've disabled ZoneAlarm and waited up to an hour. I even restarted my computer without ZoneAlarm. NO CHANGE!
As I said - I've tried forwarding with the Winblows XP firewall thing, too - I am so lost. Nothing is helping or changing my speed.
BUT:
I switched my client to the Java based Azerus - and instead of 4KBS, I'm getting up to 20. Thats not bad - but I'm used to getting 200. =/
Help, please?

The final solution, this is just an suggestion. The windows updates might cause some trouble, not sure. But try format the hard drive, plug your modem straight to you comp istead of the router, disable xp firewall. Download a client, and configure all the client settings as recommended. See if that solve your problem. If it does then it's prolly b/c of the router or windows or both. If that doesn't solve your problem then definitely it's modem trouble. Contact your isp on how to configure it.
For me, I don't wanna format my hard drive b/c I got so much stuff in it. I only format when it's no longer functional due to virus or bios mess up.
My problem still lies with in the router ports. I forward 6881-6999 trigger by 6969port. But NAT test failed on 6881-6885, pass on 6886-6889. Don't really know why. Maybe I have to foward ports on my modem? by then, HOW?
Oh yes, you might wanna check if your ip is on the ban list of these programs like peerguardian or protowall. although only a few use thes progs, but it could slow down ur DLs a bit. I was the unlucky ones that on the list >8(. By the way, I was using abc for months without the protection of protowall but never get contact by my isp or the mpaa RIAA e.t.c

try disable your xp firewall too; see it work..if dosn't work remove your hub too. also it could be your modem cause the problem. Just try one by one see what cause the problem...
Getting a router it dosen't cause you more problem; it help to protect from hackers. Router has build in firewall; therefore, you can disable all firewall in your computer, least interference.
goooood luck

I don't think win update cause problem I full update my Xp, I downloading 300kps.
well if you pass nat check on 6886-6889 then just use this port. you don't have to use 6881-6885. I fact all I use just One port.

I am unable to disconnect my HUB or Modem without SEVERLY messing up my computer and internet service (long story), but disabling my Windows XP firewall does give me a *SLIGHT* boost in speed.
My Torrentstorm is uploading at a constant 5KBS now, and sometimes even jumps to as high as 15!
And my Azureus is going at a steady 15-20KBS, which isn't bad.
Is there anything else I can do?

Dlman is right, if you're using a router then disable xp firewall along with any other firewall.
I found a cool guide for all the torrents trouble It's pretty long, see if it could help you. If it does, plz post how and what you did, so we could learn from it.
http://dessent.net/btfaq/ yes, my input my incoming tcp listen port to port 6886. Wonder why the 6881-6885 didn't work? Maybe there's a firewall built in my modem?
What sucks is I got such a powerful connection but couldn't use nearly to its potential. Although 2 weeks ago my DLs was about 70-120 and now it's stay lows WHY!?????????? I changed nothing. I also notice I have alot of choked and snubbed.
And one more thing, azureus does give you more green faces, I haven't got any yellow faces so far. It seem to connect to more peer than other clients. Weird thing is sometimes a torrent downloading at 13ks and drop to 0 instantly, then back up slowly.

tkskinne u sau u did all that. wut did u do? It would appear that after putting in your new hard drive you have lost some of the settings that forwarded your ports. So I recommend 1. set a static ip 2. forward your ports for your router 3. disable or open ports in your firewall. Need more info from you to help any further. Like operating system, router make and model, what firewalls are in place, what client you are using.
I'm workin on it

Try open 6881-6999, what port did you use as the incoming tcp listening port? did it pass the nat test? And yes green should works 7 times better than yellow, but all depends on the torrent. Maybe you got lucky with the popular torrent(fast while yellow same time) Tell me what new drive you're talking about and what goes wrong? be more specific.

ur downloading 80k this is not bad. if u r using DSL this is your max speed. and yellow face or popular dosen't realy matter if your r connected with peers and seeders. I now downloading 150kbps with a popular face. so. I got this speed because I'm connected with 1 seed and 152 peers. if u have black or red that's a problem.
one mor thing make sure your open port in azureus is match the port set in your router. azureus def. port is not 6881 and azureus use only one port so no need to set 6881-to whatever.

I got it all together now on my own. I just needed to reboot the sys after putting the cfos speed in. Now I get 200k DL from the past 6 downloads. I am using DSL. 3m downlaods 386 uplaod. To bad you think DSL can only do 80k. Maybe you should pay for a faster DSl service. All is green in my life now! And my DL is faster than ever!
PEACE!!

What's cfos speed are you talking about? What's CFOS? And what client are you using. Damn you lucky bastard. My download still sucks and my connection is 3000bps down 1500bps up.
I notice something strange, when I surf the web or using the internet without bittorrent, my LAN status always said that my Recieved bytes is much greater than Sent. But when I turn on bittorent after a while the Sent bytes is greater than Recieved. Although Azerus said that I upload speed less than download. Any ideas? too much collision maybe? Why am I sending more than receive?? My electric bill is double due to constant downloading due to slow azz torrent.

I found out what cfos is. But it's for only dsl? Which one works for cable or wireless?
Yesterday I was downloading this file with 23(3289) seeds and 58(21098)leeches. Funny thing is only 1 of those peers uploading to me up to 90-110k!! and a few others giving me a total of 4k. I'm positive that I don't have any firewall problems. I got all green faces in 13 torrent. But my total speed is still slow.
I'm connected to 81 people and only 1 that giving me something significant.
Is there a program that kick the inactive and find the active peers to connect? Does it have anything to do with the tracker? Because 95% of the peers I'm connected got have the files that interested but neither upload to or download from me.
Does it have anything to do with tracker? There're are options to configure the tracker in azureus but I don't know how. Someone please help!!! I paid 44 dollars for the internet and an extra 60 dollars for for electricity monthly because of this. Just want some decent speed.

chocfiend;
I tried using both Bittornado and abc like you suggested. 1-2 k upload 1-2k download speed. I am at a complete loss. I was getting speeds in excess of 20k down but now (with more seeders) speeds have dropped to 1-5k on Azurues. I have a feeling this is a result of the 0-1k upload speed, but what is causing it to be so slow? I am green across the board! Any other thoughts? Thanks Aagain for your help.

Same here! I use azurues and I'm get 10-60(running 11 torrents simultaneously all green),usually it in the 20s most of the time. One time this 1 single person upload to me at 96k then it drop after a while. Don't seem like you have nat or any firewall problem. Maybe your isp block the porting that u using. Try different port, and forward it too. The problem is we are connect to a bunch of people, but only a very few are transfering. Don't know why. Why are they snub and choke us?
