mukhan be patient...try a few others before you assess thats your speed. Many times your speed is dependant on many factors, how many seeders, the tracker, the amount you have uploaded, how hot the torrent is. My speeds vary depending on what I'm downloading. Also do not have more than 2 maybe three downloads going at one time.

i eventually set up my clark connect server to getting green light (login > network > port forwarding > input port 6881 : 6889 + open tracker port 6969 > put in ip address of the machine to connect to I.e 192.168.1.*** and did the same on the client pc)
can you tell me why after starting a new DL i have a yellow light? all ip addresses are the same, all firewall rules are the same?
very confusing.

Guys,
I'm using IMESH/Bit Torrent and having some problems. I have a BEFW11S4 Linksys router on XP also with a motorola modem. I believe I have setup a static IP address so that I could get my wireless game adapter to work with my playstation. I have opened up ports per IMESH (i believe its 1214) but still cannot get the speeds I used to get without the router? Please help guys...

chimney opening the ports in the router is not enough you have to open ports or disable the xp firewall or on any other firewall u have as well as set a static ip address for every computer on the network

Riptastic...Prior to version 3.2, BitTorrent by default uses ports in the range of 6881-6889. As of 3.2 and later, the range has been extended to 6881-6999. (These are all TCP ports, BitTorrent does not use UDP.) The client starts with the lowest port in the range and sequentially tries higher ports until it can find one to which it can bind. This means that the first client you open will bind to 6881, the next to 6882, etc. Therefore, you only really need to open as many ports as simultaneous BitTorrent clients you would ever have open. For most people it's sufficient to open 6881-6889.
The trackers to which BitTorrent must connect usually are on port 6969, so the client must have outbound access on this port. Some trackers are on other ports, however.
This info is from the bit torrent site, by the creator of bit torrent.
So on the computer you will use most for bit torrent open the first 10 ports of the range plus 6969. On the secondary computer open the next 10 ports.

i have read the info on the torrent site and understand what it's saying but what i don't get is the configering my gateway. i did the port forwarding the other day and all was good. then started a new DL and now get yellow light? i have deleted the rules and did them again the same as i did before but with no joy. my IP address is the same 217.***.***.*, dhcp server and gateway is 192.168.1.1 subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the ip for machine running BT is 192.168.1.253 these are all the same as when i had green lights and fantastic lownload speed. can you think of anything i am missing?
cheers

Sorry everyone its taken so long to repost, I have been busy, and just reading all these responces is out of control, let alone trying to reply to 100 pm's about port forwarding. :|
I recently went over to a friends house to assist him in setting up his ports for torrents. He has a d-link router, and it was a simple process to forward ports. If you are not sure about forwarding ports on your router, simply go to your manufactures website, pull up their support page, select your product, and most sites have step by step pictures on how to forward ports.
I believe that most of the problems being discussed here have to do with a hardware firewall and a software firewall being ran at the same time. Windows XP ServicePack 2 makes it even more difficult to disable their damn software firewall.
Also, a few people I have spoken to actually opened up their ports correct, they were just downloading slow because not many people had the file, or the people the were downloading from had slow connection. Sometimes it takes me an hour before my speeds break 100k+, sometimes I jump to 300k+ in 5 seconds. It depends on how many seeds are out there, and sources.
ANOTHER SERIOUS PROBLEM people are having, if you have more than one computer on your network, your router needs to be told where to forward the ports to. For instance, if you have your computer on the net, and your parents computer, and a friends laptop, thats 3 internal ip's that are on your network. Your router needs to know which machine is doing the torrent transfers, so make sure when your setting up ports, you direct them to the computers ip adress thats using the torrent apps. I hope this helps, I plan on doing a video tutorial of this soon, and ill post it on the front page.
btw, if you want a free ipod, no joke, check out this tutorial I wrote up.

I would like to thank everyone for the good tips on this forum!
I still got a little problem I cannot solve...
*I use ABC
*forwarded the ports 6881-6999
*changed the preferences in ABC (min port max port)
Since I did that, DL is going a lot faster sometimes (80 kb/s) with the wright colour. But some torrents still show up slimy (light) green and go really slow. If I read this forum well, the colour says I have to change the router settings but I have already done this. I dont use a firewall or something.
Can someone please tell me what I have to do.
thnx a lot

@%@#@# Routers @#$%@#% ports...
I have read all the advice here, and done my best to try everything, but Azureus just says "Nat Error" every time I test 6881.
First, I have Black Ice as my software firewall; ports 6881-9 have been opened, that thankfully was straightforward.
I have a Belkin F5D220-2 802.11b router that I'm cabled into- need the wireless for downstairs machine.
In my router, I have several things that I've tried.
There is a DMZ setting, that allows you to place a computer outside the router's firewall. I did this for my machine.
Nat Error testing port 6881.
There are special application ports. I set them up as so, according to what I'd read here:
Nat Error testing port 6881.
It has a Virtual Server page, which some people said they had used. I set it up as so:
Nat Error testing port 6881.
I've tried them in various combinations with the same result, port 6881 remains closed, torrent download speeds remain uselessly low.
Any help would be much appreciated, I'm about to take an axe to the entire rig;-)

vossie? did u set a static ip address for all machines? Also I am not sure if it is possible to run two firewalls at the same time, but u might want to check the settings for the xp firewall and make sure it is disabled if you are running XP.

bbking it sounds as tho you are set. You will encounter slow torrents. Some ppl you are downloading from may have slow speeds or may have limited speeds. There are many things that can cause occassional slow downloads. But the fact that you have speeds of up to 80 say your ports are forwarded.

Dear all,
I have a problem on setting port.
I am using norton antivirus, cable internet serivces (ISP : Rogers Canada),no router, window xp sp1. While using Azureus 2.1.04, the yellow light always turn on. And I check the port(6881-6889), it always says "nat error". For this reason, my downloading speed is very low, just 10kB/s or below.
I am sure no firewall in both ICF( internet collection firewall) or norton's firewall is opened.
Also, I use a website below to check the port in my computer
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
I get the result is the same. 6881-6889 are all closed.
I have no idea. Can anyone tell me how I can re-open the port by myself.
Thx ~~
