chocfiend,
I only have one computer on network. and yes set static ip address on that computer. XP firewall is disabled. no other firewalls other than NAT that is enabled on router. And NAT check came back with this:
Attempting connect to: 216.**.***.*** port 6881
Fail!
Successfully connected, but didn't get proper a BitTorrent client response. Make sure you entered a correct hash ID that corresponds to the active torrent on your system. Most likely, your network is properly configured, but repeat this test with a valid hash ID to be sure.
Response was: '
Up speeds are below 2kbs as well. when i first start Azurues i get 25kbs+ but shortly fall below 2kbs. i have read this is a result of slow upload speed. Any other suggestions? Thanks again.

cptmrgn well that nat check indicates the problem is with the torrent. Try to get the torrent again and see what happens. run another nat check.Believe it or not ur starting to get somewhere. (i think lol)

plazz...again from the portforward site "Dynamic vs Static IPs Usually when a network is setup, it is setup with dynamic ip addresses. This is done because its easy to setup a dynamic ip address network. When ip addresses are asigned dynamiclly, the router is the one that asigns them. Everytime a computer reboots it asks the router for an ip address. The router then hands it an ip address it hasn't previously handed out. This is important to note. When you set your computer to a static ip address, that ip address is not handed out by the router. So the very same ip address may be handed to another computer later, and that will prevent them from connecting to the internet. So when you start asigning static ip addresses, you need to asign a static ip address for every computer on your network. "

CHOCFIEND thanx for your attempts to help me, here is the result from the test
Attempting connect to: 211.**.**.*** port 6881
Fail!
Unable to connect. This likely means you need to adjust your port forwarding configuration, or there is no client running on that port.
Interestingly the ip address it tried to connect to is completely different from those given on whatismyip.com and CMD ipconfig

Davzy....the ip address showing will be different... public ip and private ip, don't worry about that. What your nat check is telling you is you are still firewalled in some way, so you either have a firewall running (xp firewall or separate program) or you did not open yuor ports correctly.

Hi folks, before i waist anyones time, i am getting constant yellow light and variable DL speeds, these do reach more than my UP sometime but not often, mostly around 5 KB/s while ULing at 25 ( i throttled it at 80% )i have been trying all that has been mentioned about opening ports etc to see if i can maximise my DL but had no joy. my main quastion is this. does anybody know how to configure a clark connect box? i know that not many people have heard of it, so hear is a brief description and a link to their site. ClarkConnect is a software package that transforms standard PC hardware into a dedicated Internet firewall, gateway and easy-to-use server. (their quote not mine)ps it linux based on redhat 9
http://www.clarkconnect.com/ i have tryed opening all ports 6880 - 6889 in my sever firewall, port forwarded all the same on the server and opened the same on my client pc which is running windows xp pro (with firewall TURNED OFF) and latest version of bittornadow. i have been trying everything i can think of.
any help would be great. i do understand that this thread is getting very long and i dont want to drag up whats already been said, but there seem to be nothing about clark connect gateway config (their site does not include tech support unless you buy the office or pro version - i just have the free home v' any tips please.

hi chocfiend
I am using Azureus, I can't have static ip because i am on cogeco, rogers, which offer only roaming ips, or variable ips, which change after every restart.

just to let you know that i was having all the same problems (refered to in my last post about clark connect) i messed around with all the tips and eventualy reset all back to how i had it in the first place. i then started a new dowload (new torrent) and it is now fluctuating between 15KB/S and 170KB/S
i can only assume that i have hit on to a fast tracker this time?
my client and settings are as follows.
client is bittornado 0.3.7
cable modem 256 UL (limited to 23KB/s) 6 max uploads
download - 1.5MBit DL not limited
xp firewall turned off
norton firewall turned on ports 6881 - 6889 open
i have had an average download of 110Meg per hour since and been uploading about 80Meg per hour. might be worth a change of client or torrent? not sure im new to this style of P2P but i like it.
hope it all works out for you all.

riptastic if u cannot set a static ip address then each time u reboot the computer you will have to forward ur ports to download. There is no way around that I kno.

jacoban...if you are using windows xp there is a built in firewall....also try a different client like bit tornado or abc. Azureus is sometimes difficult to get going and even more so when wireless. I don't kno why but it is.

Davzy is this the instruction u used? http://portforward.com/netcomm/nb1300-portforwarding.htm go back and check it very carefully. You are still blocked. Did u set a static ip address? Also azureus is a very cranky client. It picks and chooses who it will work for lol. Try a different client like bit tornado or abc.

Attempting connect to: 216.**.***.*** port 6881
Pass!
Successfully connected and received client response.
Speeds are still 6.4kb/s or slower Download with 0kb/s upload. it stays at 0kb/s download for about 30 seconds then jumps to 6.4kb/s for 60 seconds then back to 0kb/s. Anyt other ideas? Thanks!

do all BT downloads start of slowly? i have just sset up my port forwarding and its all good, i am now getting 17 kb instead of 1-3 kb on a 1.3 gig file, is it normal speed or will it pick up from 17, my usual DL rate is between 25 and 50 kb from download accelerator
