boredstiff i wasn't trying to take ur head off lol i just was trying to get the right info from u lol. ok i'm still a lil confused here.... what is the dlink u are referring to? besides a modem, do u have a dlink router? the DVG1120M, is that the dlink? Also if you have a firewall, u will have to forward ports in that. In order to help u, i need to kno wut u have done so far. The steps are 1. set a static ip address for every computer on the network 2. forward ports in the router or modem 3. disable or forward ports in the firewall 4. do a nat check to insure everything is working properly. Some modems do not allow for forwarding ports. If yours is one of those i recommend picking up an inexpensive router and running your modem into it and forwarding the routers ports. Linksys are very easy to use.

bored stiff ok a cursory search located this article for me that says ur modem does not allow a change of settings. however at the end of the post it tells u if you are needing to forward ports to request the latest firmware for your modem from frontier. Is frontier by any chance your provider? I have had situations where installing the latest firmware has resolved the problem especially with linksys. http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark%2C8965543~mode=flat

heres my problem. like loads of other ppl my bit torrent goes at a maximum of 5kb/s. i have opened all ports from 6881-6899 n theres still a yellow light. i dnt kno wat my router is. dnt even kno if i have 1. anyway wen i got to cmd>ipconfig /all it says that my ip routing isn't enabled. mayb this has sumthing to do with it? and when i previously was opening the ports it said "configuration of port mappings failed". so wat do i have to do? do i have do sumthing with the router? i got a pentium4 3ghz 1gb ram n 160gb hd and run on windows xp. ive been tryin to get this working for days but it dnt work. thanx in advance.

Hye Chocfiend, sleep well? I Looked for firmware, but my part number is 060-5360-052 and there is no firware for it. I havent donw anything yet, well at least fot the static ip because when i open command and then ipconfig /all it says my ethernet has no default gateway, wins servers, or a lease. So I was like wtf. I read one site but i cant remember what and it said that my router is like a bridge and lets most information through. I went to shields up and it said my ports 6881-6889 were all closed so i dont know how Abc is working. Got any ideas?

boredstiff yeah so far everything i'm coming back with says you have a modem/bridge. Have u contacted your providor at all? Perhaps they offer a different model? Because from what I'm reading picking up a router might not help you because there seems to be a problem with routers working nicely with your model. lol I'll keep at this> There is someone I can ask but he's not in my time zone lol like across the world from me lol so i'll try to get up with him on Monday.

i read through alot of this topic but still aint got a answer to my problem, im running abc and im behind a speedtouch 510, i also got zonealarm pro. xp firewall is disabled and i configured the napt rules correctly but still i get a slow dl and a normal ul( about 3kb/s dl and 25kb/s. i got a 1,1 mb connection). i tested it out with the natcheck(http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl) but it failed, then i disabled zonealarm and checked it again, it falied also, so the nly possibility is that its still the router, but the ports are confugured correcly. abc uses port 6889-6999 and on my router 6889-6999 on both tcp and udp are forwarded. any solution?

Heya folks - need help.

Getting v poor download speeds on Bit Tornado.
I've checked through numerous threads and think I've got everything covered:

Forwarded port 6881 on d-link DSL-302g router
Got a static IP
Allowed bt.exe full access through McAfee firewall
On Windows 2000 (so no inbuilt firewall)
Got a green light in Tornado
Got the thumbs up from Natcheck
Got a 512k/b connection with Dodo (Melbourne)
......Got 10k/b Max downloads!!!

Anyone got any ideas?
Should I forward all the ports in the range individually (doing them as a group seems to cause problems)?
Do you think it's a Dodo port throttling problem?
How about other (windows) processes being restricted in the firewall (spooler etc)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

doof, u might want to check with ur provider. I have heard of throttling by providers altho they don't like to advertise it. I would also open more ports. Don't kno what ur trying to download, and please lol don't tell me, but it can also be a lack of seeders etc and the speed of those seeders.

MK in researching for bored stiff I am finding a lot of difficulty with speed touch and routers and port forwarding. I haven't resolved this yet but it seems that speedtouch modems use bridging and I don't know how that figures in to all this. If anyone out there knows how bridging works, help out here please.

i know there is difficulty with speedtouch. we got alot of problems with the firewall, for example that stupid firewall doesnt allow network games, even if you forward the ports. hope there is any solution to this.

Getting BitTorrent up to SPEED
Everyone has been talking about ports and they are right. The trick is two fold.

1) Enable Port Forwarding on your router/firewall. For example open ports 6881 to 6999.

2) The second part is key. You must tell Bit Torrent to use those ports! Mine was trying to use ports 10,000 to 60,000. So opening the ports on the firewall did nothing as they did not match.

Once you have both numbers matching you will get a huge increase in speed. Try it.

Hey guys,

My problem is kinda screwed. I've always used Bit Tornado, but now I want to switch to Azuerus. When using Bit Tornado, my downloads are always high, and everything works out fine.

Now when I try to use azuerus, all my downloads stay at 0.... I've configured it so max dl speed: unlimited....and ect (all the basic stuff). The port I use for azuerus is open and forwared, and even when I test it with azuerus, it says "Ok".

I did the NAT test, and it didn't say I failed. The port I use 50501, also works with Bit Tornado, so I have no idea what is going on... I did DMZ host to my pc, but still, azuerus stays at 0.

Thank you in advance for your help.

OK, well it seems that my problem is not unique, but the posted solutions for it do not work for me.

Problem:
=======
I am reading about people getting sick download speeds, yet mine it always < 20Kb/s (often far less). My lights are always yellow, and I am getting snubbed.

System Info:
==========
Win 2000 Pro
Linksys Router, BEFSX41 (firewall router)
(192.168.1.1)
Firmware upgrade is 1.51.00 (from may 2004 - this is a beta version which fixes some previous bugs with intermittent (dis)connections)
-Most of my settings are still the defaults, other than what I have changed to try to get this going.

What I have tried:
==============
I have followed all the suggested steps which get posted and reposted everywhere.
- I have a static IP address, 192.168.1.20
- this is outside my dhcp range, of 192.168.1.100-150
- In the "applications and gaming" section, I have forwarded ports 6881 to 6999, set to TCP (also tried both TCP & UDP), set it to my IP address, and enabled it.
- Used Shields up (https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2) and NatCheck (http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl) to check my ports in this range, and it WILL NOT see them. Shields up lists them all as stealth. Natcheck gives a "fail - unable to connect" error"

So....
============
-This is a common problem that many people have solved by port forwarding.
- For some reason, I cannot forward my ports despite following all the same advice everyone is giving, and the same advice that works for most.
- There is no obvious reason why my situation is unique.

Questions:
========
Obviously, anything anyone can offer is greatly appreciated. If anyone knows of any other router settings that must be configured, please let me know. Is there anything with either upnp or port triggering that is required?

I am at a loss at this point. I hope someone can provide some new information - I have been reading forums all night, and everyone is saying the exact same things, so why won't it work for me!

Thanks.
