OK im all confused. I connect using my modem and dl is normal and all green but as soon as i hook up my router it doesn't connect to bittorrent at all or stays yellow. I've done the port forwarding stuff and still nuttin.
I have a Norton antivirus and security but its fine when i connect using my modem. I think its my router setup. I need a thorough explanation that will help me fix my port or router firewall problem.

I connect usually by PPPOE with my modem, i dont know if that may be the problem. thats why im askin
my average dl is around 20-30 when green usin my modem. with router nothing if lucky, yellow

Pls and thanks

I have slow downloads with bit torrent (all around 1-5kb)

my specs

Operating system: Windows XP
Router: Dlink 704p revision a
Program: Bitcomet 0.54 - multiple downloader
Firewall: diabled
Port forward complete: 6881~6999 for both of my networked computers

in the site
http://www.portforward.com/dlink/di-704pra.htm
I dont understand how to perform the "port trigger".
what is the trigger? what is the incoming ports?

Also, how do i set my ip address to be static in win xp and 98? or did i already set it to be static by performing the port forwarding?

I m not really sure what i m doing

michaelho...first step is set the static ip address for all computers here is a link for instructions http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm follow them exactly, when it says write something down do it, so many ppl transpose numbers here. 2. Forward your ports per the instructions for your router, each machine you will use for bit torrent must have a different set of ranges. You can not duplicate them on both computers. http://portforward.com/routers.htm 3. Open ports or disable the xp firewall http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/ports.mspxtrhttp://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/ports.mspx if you use a different firewall check your material for it and open your ports. 4. Do a nat check http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/ports.mspx do not confuse the ip address shown here with what u have done as there are public ips and personal ips. The ip shown is correct and has nothing to do with any of the settings you are making. As far as the port triggering goes, I want to check your model and I'll respond in a bit.

I'm workin on it

michaelho ok just wanted to check ur model in particular. I will add two links on the end of this that expalain in depth what port forwarding and port triggering do. Very easy to understand even to the non techie. Read them and decide whether you want to forward your ports or trigger your ports, you do not need to do both. http://www.portforward.com/help/porttriggering.htm http://www.portforward.com/help/portforwarding.htm

genki ok wut exactly have u done? You say u forwarded your ports. did u forward the modem ports or the router ports or both? did u set static ip addresses? thats the first step. http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Don't kno what router you have so here's the link for a lot of them find yours and follow the instructions http://portforward.com/cports.htm then open ports in ur firewall or disable it here's the link for xp's built in firewall http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/ports.mspx last do a nat check http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl

I have a Linksys Wireless B router=BEFW11S4 and the modem has nothing to do with this since it doesnt have any thing to change so i cant change the modem's ports. When im connected with the dsl/cable modem it is normal and bittorrent works perfect and my xp firewall?? dont know nothing about that but as soon as I hook up the router it doesnt work.

When i have my router hooked and i go to cmd and do the ipconfig/all thing i see a Lease obtained and Lease expires. I dont get whats up with that.

lol im just complaining about whatever i think is wrong. ^_^

one other thing the setup page for my Linksys router makes it even more confusing. whats up with the internet ip address, router ip address, ip address from cmd. there all different.
When i setup a static ip do i change the internet connection type in my router setup page to static ip too? sigh, confusin myself(ONLY IN HIGHSCHOOL)

Attempting connect to: 24.103.11.59 port 6881
Fail!
Unable to connect. This likely means you need to adjust your port forwarding configuration, or there is no client running on that port.

I dont understand how this happenned. Heres what i ve done so far.

1. disabled my firewall

2. made both my networked pc's into static ip addresses
(considering after performing all the task and my computer is still running the internet ok. i assume i did it correctly)

3. followed the port forwarding instruction page exact to my router model.
i forwarded the same 6881-6999 ports for both my pc's internal ip addresses.

4. i didnt touch port triggering because we only need to perform one of forwarding/triggering right?

chocfiend, i need your help

i have bittorrent T-0.3.7 (bittornado). i have a d-link 704p and motorola sb5100 cable modem. i have forwarded the ports on the router. i do not have windows firewall enabled. i know i can achieve fast downloads, because internet explorer can download above 400k. i am only getting between 5 and 10 kBp/s in bittorent down and around 20 up. i have assigned static ip for the single computer, and have tried it with xp firewall enabled with ports open and disabled.

i cannot get my speeds up, i am going to try azureus, but it is a resource hog

thanks for any advice

i just installed azureus 2.0.1.4, and during the configuration, while testing port 6881, it says there was a NAT error. what can i do to eradicate this problem?

MICHAELHO... yeah i capitilized it for a reason lol. I told u specifically not to forward the same ports for each computer. You can forward like the first ten for one and the second 10 for the other they cannot be duplicated. Hope this helps.

boredstiff i have to research ur modem or router, which is it? A little more info on it would be helpful. Make, manufacturer and model. If u are in a hurry call their tech support and ask how to forward ports. And I'm a female for the record lol.

diatomics what exactly have u done? What is ur operating system? What is the torrent client u r trying to use? Did u set a static ip address? Thats the FIRST step. Did u disable any firewalls running? What is the result of ur nat check? Do you have a modem or router or both and what is the make and model of them?

boredstiff i asked if u are using a modem or router and the make and model of it not the processor speed of the computer. Atleast with win98 u don't have to worry about a built in firewall. So let me kno on the router and modem
