Heya, thanks for responding.

No, I am running win 2000 - no firewall other than the one in the router. Presumably, opening the ports in the router (which I did) will bypass its internal firewall.

According to what everyone is saying, this should be sufficient. However, when I check with the above mentioned tools, it says it cannot access through those ports, and they are still blocked.

Ideas?

i think i maybe got a solution to this problem, i was scrolling on the microsoft firewall page and noticest that msn messenger is using ports TCP 6891-6900. my bittorrent uses 6889-6999. could it be possible that msn is blocking bittorrent?

Using DSL with the Speedstream 5200 modem. Checked all the ports and IP again, and it was set up fine.

Further inspection revealed that I did in fact have a Norton personal firewall set up (got a free trial version of it with my internet hook-up), but I disabled the firewall and am still getting the yellow smiley faces and slow speeds. :(

So, kind of in the same proverbial boat, in the proverbial sh*t creek, without a proverbial paddle.

This is really funny....i have a router that is not configured, Cable modem at 2.6 mbs connection, and i used Bit Tornado. I was ashtonished by the blistering fast speeds i was downloading at!!! Awhile ago, i was downloading at like 20 kbs, using BitTorrent while others were at like 150kbs. Today i was at like 183 kbs for one file and around 80-90 for another!!! I went to this site to see if any ports were open, but none were! https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

It's a paradox.

Damn it!!! this is so damn annoying! i have the same problem with everyone! i have a linksys, did port fowarding, tried it with/without windows firewall, and people upload at 30 kbps and i get like 5kbps, rarely does it acheive fast speeds. i look at the clients connected to me, and they download at 10 kbps each and i get nothing from them. WTF damn this nat bullshit!!@#

Sorry if I sound like a complete noob here, but I have a problem that none of the posts I read (and I admit I couldn't go through all) seem to solve.

Let me start by explaining the type of internet connection I have. I have a grey LAN cable that comes into my house from across the street and plugs into my Lan card. Dunno if this qualifies as cable or anything else. This means, I don't know what router or modem is being used. I am experiencing low download speeds (max of 6KB/s) in Azureus. The uploads are maxed at 5K and the application happily uses it all, but the downloads just stutter. I usually get download speeds in the range of 15 to 25K for FTP and HTTP transfers.

I tried checking with my ISP, but they were not really able to (or very happy to) help. Can anyone tell me what I can do to get this thing working?

Thanks!

I dont know where u live but u can try www.speedtest.nl or somthing to check ure internetspeeds.

5 kb down/up makes me think ure on ISDN or somthing. If u are then its the max. speed for it. FOr cable or any DSL is extreemly slow

Ure ISP should help you with it though, maybe u oughta call and ask for their boss. Usually they put alot of more effort in it for u:p

The FTP and HTTP download speeds (when download stuff from websites) vary between 10 KB/s to 25 KB/s. I use the McAfee speedometer to check the speed, and that usually varies from 60 Kb/s to 200 Kb/s. I guess that happens because it's a shared connection.

But you're right, I probably will have to do something at the ISPs end to make things work.
