Dear chocfiend
Sorry for the delay I'm kinda busy with my studyings
since my router has no number on it :S so i guess i can't tell which router I have...
but @ least It's billion ;)
http://www.portforward.com/billion/bipac-743-portforwarding.htm
those pictures looks just like my routers's settings page... so I guess my router is Billion 743
Anyway... I'm sure that the ports are forwarded... and I'm sure no one messed with the Static Ip settings...
the green light just turned to yellow
for now I just keep thinking that u r right in pointing @ a firewall in Win2000 Service Pack 4 but I was wrong... I removed it and still the same :S
My friend is using Win2000 Service Pack 4 and he is getting a good speed... (my friend is not on my network)
one more thing... I have the main router...
other computers connect to the internet through me...
and I'M SURE that they are not killing my bandwidth since i get 30 ~ 40 kbps in the normal download from an internet website...
:S this is so complicated

Or iz et help me the hell out???

I have a LinkSys BEFCMU10 modem hooked up to a Netgear WGR614 v4 router. I have forwarded ports 6881-6889 to my static IP address and am not using any software firewall including the XP firewall. I am using the Azureus bittorrent client.
I have a 4/384 connections.
I have tried 4 different cable modems.
I have tried 2 different machines.
I have tried hooking up my PC directly to the cable modem.
I have tried hooking up my freshly formatted laptop directly to the cable modem.
I have tried all kinds of port ranges and I have never gotten a NAT error.
I have tried every tweaking every possible option in all the different bittorrent clients and this is the best I can get:
Somebody please tell me what could possibly be causing this problem, I've been troubleshooting this for weeks.

I found an interesting point in this whole big problem
I installed a 3rd party WinXP beside Win2000 on the same hard disk
I disabled the XP Firewall and the ports were already forwarded since they were saved on the Router's chip... but the light was still yellow :S
so I guess the problem is not the windows...
I'm sure it's mostly in the:
1) Surecome EP-320X-S 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter
2) Billion 743 Router
Though I still can't solve the problem

THANK YOU DR. CHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if he's still around this forum, but thanks to one of his first posts on this thread (for which he got thoroughly flamed by some putz) I have finally gotten my system to work. After two weeks of trying all sorts of stuff (including calling my ISP and even considering a $4 a day external IP address, and reading countless threads) his recommendation of setting a 5kb max upload with max 2 uploads got me from download speeds of 2-3 kb/s up to 80 to 100 kb/s and got my uploads to finally work steadily. KUDOS TO YOU DR. CHIPS.

I found some weird thing
my Billion router allows Kazaa and eDonkey ports perfectly...
But not allowing BitTorrent nor BitTornado's ports
I guess I can't blame the router now...
so probably it's the BitTorrent or BitTornado
Or... maybe it's me :S
but the ports from 6881 ~ 6999 are obviously forwarded TCP and UDP...
what can I do more?????

Hi,
I have been reading thru this thread and I also cannot get decent download speeds thru torrents.
I am using
TorrentStorm 1.30
Windows 2003 (no Windows Firewall)
Netgear 834G
Ports 6881-6999 f/w to my pc with a static ip of 192.168.0.11
The router is 192.168.0.1
I just don't understand why I am getting crappy download speeds.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Natcheck results
Attempting connect to: 81.178.240.56 port 6881
Pass!
Successfully connected and received client response
Thanks.

To everyone who's behind a NAT, and can't forward ports yourself.
You can always ask your connection provider, if it is possible to forward ports to you from the router, but usually they refuse to do that. The best for us is to use programs that understand NAT Traversal, which helps connections between computers behind a NAT. At least BitComet (tell me if any others) undenstands it, and you can see it in reality too. In Bitcomet if 'iniation' is NAT Traversal, i get usually 10-20kB/s per user, when normally it's 1-3kB/s per user. The only problem is, that these users are few. So, I suggest that everyone who's having problems with port forwarding start using BitComet. Everybody benefits from that.
Here are some links about the topic

L3on, You can check to see if ur modem is listed on the www.portforward.com site and use those instructions. Some modems act like routers. Or you can call ur provider and ask for instructions. If neither of those options work, pick up an inexpensive router and then forward those ports.
I'm workin on it

L3on just ask ur provider if there is a way to open ports in ur modem and have them walk u thru it. U don't have to tell them its for bit torrent. I doubt they would change ur modem for a router. They do different things. The modem connects u to ur providers service, a router allows multiple hookups to the modem.
I'm workin on it

Hi, I have a Linksys wireless USB adapter and was wondering if there was ANY way my download speeds could be faster. They're at about 0-3 kb/s right now on BitTorrent. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi All - does anyone have any recommendations for a wireless router that works with port forwarding - anyone have any feedback on the DSL-G604T - if it helps anyone, it emits a high pitched tone and they're allowing me to get a refund which is nice, lovely

I'm using 3Com's ADSL wireless router; bitTorrent; ICS.
WHen i use BitTorrent, the connection always remains yellow. I'm getting speeds of about 13kb/s.
I've tried port forwarding using my sys config and using windows network config but nothing seems to be changing.
How can i get my downloads to be faster?

after reading the first 4 pages of this thread here's how i solved my situation.
I use:
DLink Router
Torrent Storm BT Client
and i solved it from this link:
http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1347&question=bit%20torrent#707p
This increased my downloading speeds and changed the download "LED" indicator from yellow (blocked ports, prevention of connections) to green (dling correctly).
Hopes this helps.

Hi Choco - would there likely be problems with a wirless router even if it was linked to the downloading PC via Ethernet?

What have been the problems with wireless routers then choc?
I've tried most advice( opening ports etc) but nothing seems to be workin.
The thing is that my downloads were going fine (about 50kb/s) until i set up my network. I tried opening ports via the network configuration screens but still the same.
I cant seem to get it turn from yellow to green!
Is there no way to fix this?
