Okay so I've read all 24 pages and still have a few questions like most other people did.

First of all...I'm on a mac that has a dvd burner and burns dvd's fine. But I don't have a dvd reader that can read my wii discs (yes i've tried sticking one in to see if it reads)

...so I was wondering if I put the LG-8164b in an external enclosure case and then plugged it into my mac would work..then I'd need some kind of program to rip it to the computer.

If that doesn't work...I can grab my friends PC that he's getting rid of and use that...but his has a CD drive and a DVD reader(that is NOT a LG-8164b) ...but no burner
So I would need to take out his reader and put in the LG-8164b and then have an external enclosure to have the dvd burner in..correct?

If there are any other mac users out there that burn wii games with it...please talk to me :D!

Unfortunately...I do not have any links or information to share at this moment. :D

If I have a game that is burned, do I need the LG drive to copy it to my hard drive?

Could someone PLEASE tell me if this whole process, including the drive, is needed to make ISO images of already copied Wii games??

I mean, does it applies to BKP copies of Wii games??

thanks......

@WTFD4VID & mabhz

Try reading the previous pages and you will find your answer.

But I am sure if you wait long enough someone will come along and give you the answer instead of making you search for the answer in this thread.

Sorry, larrylje, but Im in a deadline.

I borrowed 30 BKP Wii games Dvds from a friend, and I need to return them in a couple of hours, and I cant just go thru all the pages on this thread.

Someone told me I could rip the images just like I do with a regular movie DVD, but the point is, no program I try can see the contents of the DVDs...

So, if you know the answer and could please help me, please, do so!

thanks!

So from what I've read, in order to back up a burned Wii game, I need to use Direct Copy from Nero and I need an LG and a DVD burner? Is there any other way because I only have a DVD burner right now (just for burned Wii games not original ones)?

From my tests here performed yesterday, after reading the posts, I learned that you just need to read and rip the DVD contents, create an image on your HD, using any program you prefer, and them burn a blank DVD with it, using any program you like.

You are correct mabhz

I am glad you took the time to read up and learn. Most would just complain and say I was being rude but as I stated above the answers are there if you just take a little bit of time to read.

I have a pretty good basic knowledge of the Wii modscene and it is due to all the over whelming knowledge that has already been asked and answered in previous threads.

So take advantage of that knowledge.

I agree, Larrylje, and again I thank you for taking your time and posting that message saying the answer was on close previous pages. If you didnt say that, I would have never start reading the back posts.

And by no means I think you were rude. Its anoying how people come to foruns and ask stuff without reading any posts and trying to find an answer, but sometimes we are really on a deadline like I was yesterday.

And I agree, foruns, this one and many others, are an unbeliveable source of FREE knowledge. You just need the patience to read thru them to learn all that is about any subject you want.

Thanks God for the Internet!

Thanks, larrylje, and take care. all the best!

Yeah, NewEgg sucks!! Its ridiculous that they dont ship outside USA. Really small stores in Chine ship worldwide, and they dont!! GO figure!!

Anyway, Rodrigo, I think you can burn -RW discs fine, and Wii will read it. And yeah, seems like online feature works OK after modding Wii.

There are several Compaq/Dell and I'm sure other PC that has one of these LG drive installed but branded with something other then LG. I got a Dell system and on the DVD drive it is branded with Hitachi Data Storage with the model GDR-8161B. Lilely these LG got branded with another name so pay attention to the model. I also got another Compaq system that has Compaq on the DVD drive with the model 8160B. I will test this model out since it wasn't mention is 8160 will work or not.

I have these drives and will test it out in a bit:

**EDIT**
1) Sony drive DDU1621 = failed
2) GDR-8161B = success
3) GDR-8160B = failed
4) NEC DV 5800A = failed

I will grab a few more at work and do more testing.

I just got a new computer. In the process of tearing my old Gateway apart, I noticed that the DVD-ROM was a Hitachi branded LG drive, with model number GDR-8162B. Have you ran across this one yet? Anybody know if it will read the Wii disks? I will test it myself, but I'm just getting started with this back-up deal, so I don't have the RawDump and all of the other stuff just yet. Plus, I have to get my new computer squared away. Just wondering if anyone has already tried this model. I'll try it out as soon as I can. If I haven't heard from anyone else by then, I'll post my findings. Thanks.

Okay, I finally got around to testing out this drive, and it did read the Wii disk successfully. I just wanted to let everyone know.

But while I'm here, I have a couple questions. And again, I apologize if these have been asked and answered before, but at least I provided some info this time. Maybe that earns me an answer...?

I downloaded the .net framework. When I tried to install it, it gave me an error message saying that it couldn't install on a 64 bit operating systewm (I have XP Pro 64). Is this going to be a problem, or is there something similar built into XP Pro 64 (no, I have no idea what .net is or does)?

Also, I ran rawdump on Super Paper Mario, and everything seemed okay, but the file size was off. I ran it again, and came up with the same number as the first time. I want to say it was 4,289,662,... or something similar. Do you have a solution?

no question here, just giving my 2cents and my experience.
maybe it will help someone

i was pretty discouraged when my wii wouldnt play backups. i was using TY's. when burning dvd's i never had one unplayable/skipper out of over 100 burns in this batch of discs; all played perfectly. Love TY's for dvds.

while backing up wii games they would skip and be constantly "loading" because it apparently couldnt read the disc. tried this with different burners, different images, different speeds and nothing. for the heck of it, i grabbed an old beat up imation dvd that was just sitting on the bottom of a spool and burned that one and i'll be damned if the thing didnt work flawlessly. so, i headed over to my local big box store and picked up what was on sale: a 25 pack of sonys and 25 pack of maxells (yes, i know they could really be anything, this was an experiment). sure enough, both played great.

my 2cents: i'm keeping my TY's for dvds and picking up el-randomo dvd for my wii.

also for another experiment, i ripped one of the "bad" TY burns to an image and burned that same image to one of the store bought discs and viola, it worked... some wii's just might be picky with discs (dye color, reflectivity, who knows).

just something else to try; dont dedicate yourself to what's the best and higest quality dvd this week

Hi,

I have a problem burning / playing games that I have downloaded for testing purpose only:) As long as the ISO size is 4.37 GB the games work fine. But the latest games I found (Bionicle Heroes, shrek the third, Wario Ware) have an ISO size of 4,589 GB. When I burn these games and try to run them, my WII doesn't recognise it as a valid disc. Anyone with the same problem???
