YinHo Ng, What are the results of your nat check? http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl Also besides forwarding the ports in your router what have u done? Did you set up static ip addresses for all computers on the network? Did u open ports in the firewall or disable it? Have you tried some different clients? Have you recently downloaded SP2?

I'm workin on it

NAT test returned this result:
Unable to connect. This likely means you need to adjust your port forwarding configuration, or there is no client running on that port

No i havent set up a static ip address for all my computers to my knowledge. i.e. i havent consicously done anything to ensure this is so.
I have Zone alarm- how am i supposed to open ports on this? I havnet tried different clients yet and i havent got sp2.

Hope this is useful.

any suggestions?

YinHo Ng ok well there's the bulk of your problem. You have to have a static ip address for each computer on the network http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm then u have to either open ports in the firewall or disable it. U'll have to check the zone alarm info for those instructions, I don't use it. Make sure if ur running XP that the XP firewall is disabled or ports are open http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/ports.mspx Check www.portforward.com for ur router and double check that u have opened the ports correctly. Then run a nat test and see if u pass. Also try a few different bt clients to see which program works best for u.

Hey Chocfield. I've set up a static ip address for each computer on my network. I've opened ports in my firewall(allowing tcp ports incoming and i specified 6881-6885) and even tried turning it off.
I've disabled windows xp firewall and tried opening the ports on there too.
And finally NAT test still returns a 'failed' result.
I also tried disabling my router firewall but its still the same.

Do i need to open ports on both computers?

I recall you saying, "drastic I'm gunna warn u, a tremendous number of people I help that are having difficulty with forwarding their ports is due to the router being wireless."

My network is wireless. What was the main problems with wireless network and opening ports?

YinHoNg. I wish I knew what made wireless so difficult, cuz then I could figure out the work around for it. No u don't need to open ports on more than one computer. What reason did the nat test say u failed for? There are some people having luck using different ports than normal. Check back on the thread, some of the port ranges are listed there. Try that.

kylem, what reason does the test fail u for? What bt program r u using? If you say azureus, lol, then I'm gunna say try a different program. lol. Also try the advice I gave to YinHoNg, try to open a differnt range of ports. There have been some mentioned on this thread that ppl have had luck with. Some isp's are blocking the regular BT ports.

O yeah forgot to say that this is why natcheck
said it failed:

Hey everyone! First off I'm kinda happy to see I ain't the only one getting very slow dl speeds on my torrents, never once seen em change from yellow to green.

Okay my current setup is as follows:

- DLink DWL-510 11mbps 802.11b PCI Wireless NetCard
- WinXP Build 2600 SP2 Installed
- Sygate Personal Firewall Pro Installed
- TorrentStorm v1.3 (Bittornado 0.3.2)

Have looked through this forum and another similar one on another site and tried everything can think of to get around this problem ie. tried first standard ports then tried ports 16881-16886 incase the ISP was limiting bandwidth on standard port numbers, no joy. Worth noting that with the install of SP2 configured Win Firewall first switched off then opened configured ports to allow through, again no joy. Same with SPFP, popped a couple of holes in there to allow, TS (tor32.exe is allowed also) still no dice.

Running out of ideas so would appreciate any that you guys might have.

Cheers for listening _monkey12_

Hey Camdog or any of you comp junkies out there,

I have been using Bitcomet and Azureus for nearly a month now. I've read all the stuff on port forwarding. But the thing is I had no idea what my computer's IP add was so I followed the method suggested in this thread by Camdog and according to the DOS screen that opens up, it reads something like this:

1 Ethernet Adapter:

Description..........: Intel(R)PRO PCI Adapter
Physiacl Address.....: 00-D0-59-14-F7-03
DHCP Enabled.........: Yes
IP Address...........: 10.0.0.1
Subnet Mask..........: 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway......: 10.0.0.138
DHCP Server..........: 10.0.0.138
Primary WINS Server..:
Secondary WINS Server:
Lease Obtained.......: 10 16 04 5:03:42 PM
Lease Expires........: 10 16 04 7:03:41 PM

Now as u guys can probaly see from above my computer's IP Address is meant to 10.0.0.0 and my router's IP is 10.0.0.138

I am behind a Thomson Speedtouch 530 router on a 256kbps ADSL connection and I have a Norton Firewall which I normally shut down while using Bitcomet or Azareus. I am running Windows 98 SE on a Compaq Armada M700 laptop.

Follwing the instructions on this forum, I opened up ports 6881-6999 on my router and typed in the computer's IP 10.0.0.0 as the 'Inside IP' and left the 'Outside IP' as 0.0.0.0

But the thing is this just doesn't seem to work cos I never get any green lights on Azareus, but always yellow and my dwnlds are on average around 5KB/s (though this increases slightly as more peers and seeds become available). Also whenever I try to test port 6881, I always get 'NAT error' It's pretty much the same story with BitComet!!

So my question is, is there soemthig wrong with my computer's IP address (10.0.0.0) cos it looks rather different to what most people have i.e (192.168.x.x)

Could u please help me out as I've virtually tried everything and am on the verge of GIVIN UP!!

Cheers

I enabled the port forwarding for TCP and UDP and I now get a green light on all clients, but still is only the average speed of 20kbs.

Help is much appreciated.

luxbenz the first thing u r supposed to do is set a static ip address. You haven't done that or ur ip would not be whats shown. torrent will not work successfully with out it and u have to set a different static ip for every computer on ur network. then open ur ports in the firewall or turn it off then open the ports in ur router then reboot and do a nat test. Also make sure whatever program u are using is set to use the ports u opened. Here's the links http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/ports.mspx

hi, i am using an origo asr-8000 router and bit torrent, my downloads are all slow, starting at about 60kbps at the very beginning and then jumping straight down to 5 kbps maximum and staying there. I have read your instructions on opening ports for bit torrent with port forwarding, however my router does not have a section called port forwarding and the nearest to this is virtual server, which i think is the right option to use. With this function my router does not give all the options described with your linksys router, the options available to me are :

>- public port start
>- public port end
>- private port
>- port type (either tcp/udp , never both at the same time)
>- and finally host i.p address.

I obviously got as far as the public port start and end , and also the host i.p address, which i have put my computers i.p address in which is 10.0.0.9 (i am right when i do that are'nt i).
My problem lies in what to put in the private port and also which setting should i choose for port type?

HI Chocfiend,

I set up the static IP address as u said and restarted my comp. But after doing so, I was unable to connect to the net and when running the NAT test on Azareus, I got the message: 'Unable to connect'. I had even configured my router ports 6881-6999 prior to restarting my pc.

But I'm afraid setting up a staic IP address in my case isn't really helping cos my adress comes out to be 10.0.0.0 according to my adapter which is still kinda weird.

Any suggestions??

Cheers

On my router config screens there are optinos to turn NAT on or off. also, there is an option about blocking icmp ping. right now they are both on.

does this make a difference cos i've tried everything else and its still yellow.
