i know i said that. i said: "it would be best to upgrade back to 1.9g and then use the 1.9b update disc to do the corruption method only"
so if you are currently at 1.9b then upgrade to 1.9g since doing the corruption method wont work on the same firmware your wiikey is on (trust me i tried it). and if your wiikey is currently on 1.9g then you can do the corruption method with the 1.9b disc right away without worrying about any problems

maybe i should throw this out there to give some more background to my little rut.
Aside from the other other probs i stated above, when i put a real wii disc in, it ejects fine. When i put any backups, config discs, recovery discs in, when i press the eject button, it does that whole sphiel of half ejecting, sucking it back in and spitting it out. After this point, it doesnt matter if i put a real game in or a backup, it ill just spit it out

yup yup yup... same here. but if that happens you have to completely turn off your wii then turn it on again. when i do that it works fine afterward (but the problem can happen again later)

On that note, have any of you heard of a wiikey that simply did not work? I have checked, rechecked, and triple checked my soldering with a multimeter, posted pics of my install and linked to them in a previous post, tried a TDK media -rDVD of 1.9b burned with Nero, no love.
Each time I try to load a config disc or an update disc, I put it in my wii, power off, power on, press A, go to the disc chanel and it says "unable to load disc"
Am I doing something wrong THERE? I mean, I can't be because when I have my Wiikey enabled, SSBB legit loads and plays fine.
I have been under the impression that SSBB will NOT play if ANY wiikey of ANY version firmware is installed in the system, correct? For this reason, I am using it as a negative test.
On the other hand, I received my Wiikey less than a week ago. IS there any chance that mine just works with Brawl? And not with the update discs? .....and not the config discs? .......sigh.......
What chipset does your Wii have D2A, D2B, D2C?

I want to add my experiences to this thread, I know it's at 36 pages, but hopefully I can consolidate a lot of information for people that may be having problems.
I have a Wii with a Wiikey installed. I am running 1.9g and running backup and original copies of everything including SMG.
I purchased SSBB and based on the existing information, fully expected it not to work and i wasn't disappointed. My original disc of US SSBB will not work on an unmodified Wiikey running 1.9g.
I downloaded friidump .40 and successfully created an ISO image of my SSBB using the following command line:
friidump -d E: -a
The dump is about 8.5GB (make sure you have enough disk space before starting and took about 7 hours on an AMD Phenom 9500 with 4GB RAM and 400GB SATA drives with an LG-8164B.
After the ISO was created, I used imgburn 2.4.0.0 to burn the ISO using a SONY DRU-830A DVD burner .
Long story short. The first disc that I burnt was a Fuji DL and it FAILED. I then tried again using some CHEAP GQ 8X DVD+R DL ($0.89 each). Since the FUJI burn failed I expected the GQ to fail as well. To my surprise, theQ burn worked!!!!! I did a second burn with a GQ disc and set the layer break at 2084960 as suggested by another poster. The second GQ burn worked as well. I looked at my $3.34 Fuji DL again and saw that it was only rated at a max of 2.4X, but since that's all Fry's had for name brand DVD DL in small quantity that's what I bought. So, the cheapies can work as well. I will keep track of the long term performance of these DVDs.
My fallback would have been to install the power switch to the Wiikey, which may be a good idea for me in the future since I buy most all of my games but prefer to run backups because my 6 yr. old isn't as careful with the discs as I'd like him to be.
I hope that this adds some useful information to the thread.

Dude, it is in BOTH pictures that I took of my install. GC2-D2B
I would really like to know how it is possible that I have a good install of the wiikey, a d2b chipset and still no playback. This is not a difficult case to summarize:
I bought a new Wiikey with hologram
I installed it
I checked the install with circuit continuity tester. (all good)
I tested wii with retail SSBB (expecting/hoping it would fail and indicate a functional Wiikey) and it played fine.
I tested wii with config 3 disk. Not working
I tested Wii with 1.9b update disk. Not working
Wii IS USA 3.2
Wiikey has never been upgraded
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP
I guess I will just lurk here and try to be helpful to anyone I can to set a good example! :)

or its just plain & simple, on play all burnd games, off play all original games¿?

The switch will turn off the wiikey 100% so you can play d/l originals like ssbb. To play backups, you'll have to turn the wiikey back on.

I apologize I wasn't paying attention that you were the poster from earlier with pic's. I cannot imagine that you have a WiiKey that natively plays SSBB because the WiiKey team is currently trying to find a way to fix the WiiKey's issue with DL support. However, I have read posts that people have received WiiKey's that were corrupt right out of the static bag.I do not have my WiiKey hooked up to a switch, it is just mounted to the board,I cannot imagine that is the issue but I have not had any issue's with backups, updates, ect.immediately following install with the exception of the SSBB issue. Coincidentally, I was trying the method that Dailun is describing above shortly before he posted it, I currently have 10% remaining of the dump but I have also read about an additional step that has to be done using the truncha sign program, if that method works, I will post back and let everyone else know.

So get the 1.9b backup disk, insert in the system, restart, let sit on wii menu for a few mins, restart and try a backup?
Off to burn a backup...
Thanks for the reply Cherrin, I really appreciate having a plausible cause to explore. If that is not it, I am going to try and test across the power and ground of the Wiikey while the drive is running. Kinda risky but it should at least tell me if I have power going to the chip. May be interesting to see the voltage that the chip runs on.
I guess before I do that, I will burn endless ocean and test. can't help still hoping... heh

Well, burned the backup, tried it, no love.
Cracked the Wii back open and tested across my + and - on the wiikey. Here are the results:
unplugged: 0.001 volts
plugged in: 0.018 volts
wii running SSBB 3.335 volts
Is this what I should see? Seems good to me... All that is left to do is to redo the other 4 points and hope that one was just encased in the solder blob but not actually married to it. This may have caused a dry solder joint, which may not carry enough signal to be functional. Still, the joint would have stood up to my trying to bend/move both ends after completing each joint.
SHEEH. and i thought i was gonna have an easy time of it...
I will post back, rain or shine.

OK so here we go, so far im going to assume you havent been able to successfully boot anything but legit copies. and none of the wiikey fw discs. d/l and burn a copy of the GCOS 1.3 config. ()
This is very important its GCOS. Also, YOU WILL NEED A GC CONTROLLER. Boot that disc and if it doesnt work, stop here. If it does work, then turn ON region over ride for both gc and wii. After that you need the 1.9g update in Wii format, not GCOS.(LINK)
Boot that and update it to 1.9g If this doesnt book once again, stop here. If it does boot, it has to run through twice and you need a copy of SMG handy. Hope this helps. ill walk you through this cause i was on the phone with a buddy for 2.5 hrs while our gf's were calling us and accusing us of talking to another girl...lastly, do not panic, itll all work out in the end i assure you.

Well, redid all the data connections on the Wiikey. Now all the solder joints are thick and shiny.
Popped in the recover disc, restarted
waited 5 mins
reset console, eject recovery disc
insert 1.9b padded
No go.
Insert SSBB, works fine.
Wow. I am so frustrated. I have seemingly done everything right, yet my wiikey can't do anything except apparently draw power like it is working, be connected like it is working and piss me the he|| off.
OK. I am at my wit's end. Besides waiting for endless ocean to be done (STILL not done! Grrrr!) so I can inevitably fail at loading it, I have NO IDEA what is going on.
Chip installed, drawing power
Wii works without glitching (no bridged connections)
soldered and REsoldered data connections on Wiikey to be sure
No wiikey functionality whatsoever.
I am totally stumped.
here is my new solder job:

Please, recognize this as the mystery it is and PLEASE help shed some light on it! Will take any pics/ vids needed, desolder the whole thing and check the underside if that is what's needed!
EDIT: Illuznist! Thanks for responding! I greatly appreciate your positive statements and suggested steps to proceed with my testing. Rest assured I will follow them to the letter tomorow (it is now 1:00am here in Seattle (anyone else from the Pacific Northwest?))
Quick two questions before I sleep. The link that you provided me goes to some place other than the start of this thread where I have been getting the discs. Is the file in need of filechop in order to bolster it's size? Also, what brand media, DVD drive, and burning program do you use? I have tried TDK -R discs with an old version (a year or two) of Nero (it has "nero quickstart" as the start icon) and I have also tried Image Burner. I am going to try Toast on my wife's macbook tomorrow.
Again, thank you for giving me a measure of solace and I will get right on this tomorrow after work!

WiirForce i had the same problem after corrupting my wiikey urs is most likely in the state of suspension mine is in why i couldnt tell ya ur wiikey and install is probably great but i think ur where i was earlier today burn the wiikey 1.9b recovery i did padded and unpadded unpadded worrked but honestly i dont think they are dif both verified same data and loaded once wiikey was working again ,also if ur retail copy or any other retail game is working then it makes it all the more obvious to me that ur wiikey is in a state of suspension or corruption which as we all know can be fixed with recovery discs.(did i jus repeat myself a bunch of times in this message oh well)
Anyways be vigiliant keep retrying recov discs also i use sony dru 830 a to burn recov discs w/sony brand 16x-1x dvd-r which ive used for wii, ps2, and original xbox,(verbatim dvd9 for 360 and ssbb for wii which does work for me buy the way using winja layer brak method after updating to 1.9g)

Snoba77erI just did what Sn4key did but i had to turn off my wii and back on after i intially put the recov disc in after plugging my wii back in.
Heres the message i read:
Sn4key
UPDATE!
Ok so I got it to work.
So after I read your post (I had just woken up), I unplugged my Wii off the power, waited some seconds, plugged it back in.
I thought I had the other recovery disc inside so I kept pushing Eject but I remembered I took it out because I wanted to try the plain Recovery disc as it is for download.
So when I turned it on, on the black screen where you push "A" I put the new recovery disc inside. Then I pushed "A" and... I saw the GameCube logo...
So I'm like.. did this happen because of THIS disc or because of last night's last try? I don't know now.. haha!
But anyways, then I put in the Wiikey 1.9g update so I could run Galaxy... It went to the 1st time, test mode then I pushed A.. Then for the actual FLASH, it gave me an error of ReadID Error, push "A" to retry.. and it wouldn't go forward from then..
Now I can't read discs again! So I'm going to try the recover once again.. <sigh> and hopefully get it back to work and not touch ever again!!
and then tried it myself except reset at the end wher his jus started up from jumpstreet!
later good luck guys if u want mine and other freind codes go to http://www.nhotspot.net/super-smash-bros-brawl-friend-codes
ill be waiting to play u guys once u get ur wiis working again good luck!

Woohoo! Sweet. Your Wiikey is working you say? I heard retail copies of SSBB don't work with Wiikey 1.9g units?
I backed up my fiancee's copy of SSBB and I haven't tried her retail on my Wii.. but I just read on other forums about an issue of some sort.

So I guess that even though this step-by-step procedure of what I did to recover my Wii is long, it should be worth giving a try since it worked and seem to have worked for cb99 as well. So here it goes:
So I was using initially the GCOS'ed 1.9b recover disc.
The 1st time I ever put it in, I turned on my Wii first, pushed "A" to get to the main screen, put the disc inside. Then I waited to stop spinning and hit Reset.
Then I left it on the main screen (since after hitting reset, it automatically goes into the Wii Menu screen) for about 4 minutes at a time. I did it numerous times like this:
After 4 minutes, pressed On/Off button on the Wii. Waited 5-8 seconds, turned it back on with the on/off button on the console, pushed "A" on the wii remote, got to main screen. Since I wouldn't see the GameCube icon, I hit reset. Counted 4 minutes again, hit on/off button once again, 5-8 secs, on button once again, and so on. I did it about 20 times so when right before I went to bed, I ejected the GCOS'ed disc and then turned off the Wii and left it with the Red light (fully turned off, but did not unplug the power cord).
Then when I woke up, I read the post by someone else that was able to recover with the plain 1.9b recover. I decided to immediately download it from the link on Page 1 that says "1.9b recover", the 1st recover disc link. I burned it with ImgBurn on a Verbatim DVD-R at 2.4x and VERIFIED IT too. This time I even wrote on the disc with a Sharpie "Wii Recover Disc 1.9b" because I was so confident it would work.
But before I put it in, I read that the other person would also unplug the power cord in between reset cycles. So before I even did anything, I unplugged the Wii from the cord, waited 10-15 seconds and plugged the power back in. I thought I had forgotten the GCOS'ed disc inside so I hit EJECT first thing and I thought it was weird because nothing would pop out. I hit it for the 2nd time and then I realized that I had taken the disc out.
So finally I pushed the Power button on the Wii again to power it up. When I got to the screen that says to push "A" to continue, I poped in the plain 1.9b recover disc. Waited until I heard it stop spinning and then hit "A".
Magically, the GameCube icon appeared. I clicked on it to hear the "GameCube game music" then clicked back.
At this point, I wanted to upgrade back up to 1.9g so I could try SMG so I grabbed the Wiikey 1.9g Upgrade disc I used a couple of months ago to upgrade 1.9g for SMG and popped it in. It was a DVD+R, cheap Dynex from Best Buy media.
Saw the GameCube icon, clicked on it and clicked START. I also hooked up my GameCube controller at this time.
The TEST phase of the upgrade was fine but when it came time to actually FLASH it, it was giving me a ReadID Error and I kept pushing "A" on the GameCube controller but it kept kicking me back to the Error message. So I hit the On/Off button on the Wii and then powered it back up.
I couldn't read any discs after that once again and I was mad!!
So there I went once again with the whole recovery disc process, this time I kept going back and forth with the GCOS'ed disc and the plain. I would unplug the power cord in between On/Off cycles as well, waited 10-15 seconds and then power it back up. I'd get NOTHING...
So I started to get mad and thought my Chip was just busted. I decided to open my Wii to check my solder points and stuff. I left the PLAIN recover disc inside the bay.
I saw that I put a small piece of electrical tape over the chip when I had installed it so I decided to take that out.
With the Wii all opened up, no screws attached, even holding the bay in place, I plugged the power back on it and used a small screwdriver to hit the EJECT button at first. I thought it was the On/Off button. So then I inserted the disc back inside and the Wii self-powered itself up and I saw the GameCube disc!
At this time I decided to try my Super Paper Mario disc to see if it would read. It didn't.. I popped it back out and RESET my Wii. I put it back inside and nothing again. So I put in the PLAIN recover disc back inside and saw the logo once again. This time I clicked on it and then hit START. The screen went black and I waited 20-30 seconds and hit the On/Off button on the Wii with a screwdriver. Then I unplugged the power, waited 10-15 secs, plugged it back in, powered it on and the GameCube disc was still there. So I popped it out and put in the GCOS'ed recover disc and also saw the GameCube logo. I took it out (without running it..) and popped Super Paper Mario back in and saw the SPM logo!
Since my Wiikey 1.9g update had given me problems last time, I downloaded a GCOS'ed copy of it from Page 1 of this thread and burned it on a same Verbatim DVD-R at 2.4X, VERIFIED the burn as well (using ImgBurn 2.4.0.0 by the way..)
I took Super Paper Mario out, popped the update disc in and saw the GC logo, so I hit START. This time the update was flawless and passed through the FLASH portion of the update as well.
At the end it rebooted my Wii so then I removed that disc and popped in the GCOS'ed 1.3 Config Disc I had just burned, Verbatim DVD-R 2.4X, Verified.
Loaded it up and saw the logo, so I ran it. I went to the REGION OVERRIDE and set it to "ON" and it saved it. Then I went to the "reboot wii" portion and hit "A".
When it came back, I saw the GC logo so I took that out and put in SPM to see if I'd see the logo and I did! So I took it out and tried out SMG to see if I'd see the logo also and I did. Next up was SSBB and since it was the 1st time I had put it in, it told me it needed to apply an update to my Wii. I hit "OK" and let it update. At the end, it automatically reset my Wii and I was back at the menu. I finally saw the SSBB logo on the menu, so I went to it, hit START and voila.. Go it to work as well.
At that point, it was when I finally decided to put my Wii back together so I left the SSBB game inside and unplugged everything and assembled it back.
Tried it once again and it was perfect.
Then I let it run on the Intro of SSBB for over 20 minutes to make sure I wasn't gonna get any read errors or nothing and it was fine. At the end I just exited it back to the Wii Menu and turned the Wii off.
That's the whole story! :) Maybe it has something to do with the BATTERY you remove when you disassemble the Wii... not sure..
Hope this "Tutorial" helps. :P
