You probably have a DVD drive in your computer already, and if it's not a writer also, just take that out and replace it with the LG drive. That way you'll see exactly where to connect what. Also, make sure you put the jumper in the appropriate place. (master, slave, cable select) If you turn on your computer and don't see the drive (but can open and close it with the button), then this is most likely the problem.

Hey so I just ordered an LG DRIVE ("the DVD-ROM LG|GDR-8164BB") the one recommended in the beginning. Earlier on page 32 of this forum it said that if you have a laptop to use an external enclosure and then connect it through usb. The one I ordered is "Moving Star One Touch Backup 2.5" USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive Enclosure". I just want to make sure they are compatible to each other. Anyways I appriciate everyone who has responded and I think I'm starting to get the hand of this thing.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that one won't work. 2.5" is for a laptop, and has a different connection (most hard drives and cd/dvd drives use a 40 pin IDE cable) It would work with a 3.5" enclosure, you just couldn't use the cover, but a 5.25" enclosure would be ideal.

Is this> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136083

one of the drives that was recommended on the first page? I am just unsure because of the extra character on the newegg site. Thanks.

Yes, that is one. As long as it's LG and has "GDR" in the model.

Once again, LG to read (there is no LG GDR burner), any DVD writer to burn.

I used the very first link on the very first page and I bought that LG drive to read it. I need something to enclose it because it is going to be connected via usb to my laptop. I found out the one I ordered is wrong so can anyone give me a link to one that would work with the LG drive I ordered? Thanks

OK so if I were to use the LG drive recommended on the first page... http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827136088 but I wanted it for a laptop then I would need a enclosure right? Well would this one work... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827199001 ... with the LG drive recommended? I just want to try to get the right equipment.

1. Just .Net Framework 2.0 and you should be good to go!
2. Just luck o' the draw, they could have been PAL when you need NTSC, etc. I have had about 6 out of 10 successful from torrents.

Never used a private tracker, I'll have to look into that... I'm using GameFly and GottaPlay right now. I have to say, GottaPlay is much faster for me (in the Midwest) since they have 9 shipping stations instead of 2. GF takes over a week (like 10 days) from when I send them until I receive another one. GP is more like 6 days. Both don't even compare to Netflix, of course, but it's better than paying $8 at blockbuster!

What should i do if my writer speed is too fast. Cause you know how in the tutorial he suggests that you burn at 2x well the slowest i can go is 2.4x. Ive already tried to backup with this speed, and sure enough i get a disc read error. Is there anyway i can make the settings slower on the burning rom im using (nero)?

Try using ImgBurn (download page is here)... you can select whatever burn speed you want.
