Hey guys i need some help:
Basically bought a modded Wii off this guy, i told him to test if SSBB works before i buy it, he did and he said he has updated the Wii chip (wii key) and said super smash works, im like great i bought it-brought it home and downloaded myself a copy off SSBB, burnt it, threw it in and it said to update. And guessing my chip firmware was already updated i thought it would be ok to update (hopefully that wasnt a wrong move) and updated, it recognized the game and was at the "NOW LOADING" screen then it goes black saying "Game disc could not be read check your manual" screen.
Wii Console is USA
Guessing Wiikey USA
SSBB = USA, DL BURNT
Can someone PLEASE help me :(
Thanks in advance (hate being novice at these things..)

I have never come across that error in the forums I have read. Did the dude you bought the Wii from smoke in the game room? Nintendo is saying that some dirty lasers may not read DL discs but I have yet to hear of a report of one (or the error message that goes with it). Not too helpful, but could explain it. Is there a switch on it? Can you disable it and try retail SSBB?

this is awesome! i fixed my wiikey! and its all thanks to WiirForce! i really didnt think the recovery disc would work as a plain disc but it did! So Snoba77er i really recommend trying this. if this doesnt work then.. i dunno what to tell you. but heres what you do:
1. burn a copy of the plain recovery disc (not padded or filechopped)
2. power on the wii
3. take out any disc in the wii
4. insert the plain recovery disc
5. dont touch the wii for about 5-7 minutes
6. power off your wii completely and turn it back on again
7. take out the recovery disc and insert the 1.9g update
and then you should see the gamecube logo!

Hi all, after reading all 36 pages of posts.... please tell me if my understanding is correct.
Here is the setup
NTSC Wii w/ 3.2U firmware
WiiKey w/ 1.2 firmware w/ region override already ON
Wii is not bricked or semi-bricked at all.
First of all, to bring my WiiKey up to date
(1) Do I just go to the first page and download "1.9g beta fix", burn it to a DVD-R and let it run ?
(2) I am "Filechop-challenged", so does the "1.9g beta fix" disc image need to be processed to make it larger/smaller ?
(3) When it insert "1.9g beta fix", is it going to run twice by itself ? first round testing and second round updating ?
(3.1) What is the difference between "1.9g beta fix" and "Wiikey 1.9g USA (1.9gBootUSA.zip)" ?
(4) After "1.9g beta fix", is my Region OverRide still ON ? Do I need to run "Config 1.3" to turn Region OverRide ON again ?
(5) If I need "Config 1.3" and I am "Filechop-challenged", I should donwload the "Conig 1.3" from "GCOS/PADDED version of Original Config Discs"..right ?
(6) After Wii Firmware 3.0, the "Conig 1.2" disc cannot be read by Wii ..right ?
(7) So, where does the "1.9b Recover" disc comes into play ?
(8) Say I successfully update to system to Wii 3.2U with Wiikey 1.9g, will I be able to play backup version of "US SMG" and and "US SBBB" ?
(9) When I play backup version of "US SMG" and and "US SBBB" ...even if the game asks me to UPDATE, I assume it is safe to click OK since the game and console are from the same region ?
Thank you a million in advance..
BH

hello everybody, there are too many pages to read in this forum so no point in wasting my time. I have a few questions rafa, ok i have a 3.0U wiikey USA modded wii. There is a problem though, I semi-bricked it by installing the battalion wars 2 update (PAL). I have links cross bow training, and was wondering if i should use that to unbrick it. I also used the japeneses SSBB trick, where u wait till 10% then unplug the power. What should I do after I download SSBB dual layer.

I am now playing SSBB on my wii with the wiikey enabled. Here is what I did.
1.Used my store bought disk and FriiDump 0.4.0 to create the ISO.
2.Burned the ISO using IMGBURN and before burning I changed the layer break to 2084960 under tools -->options-->write tab. change it to manual and enter the 2084960.
3.Put it in my Wii which immediately wanted to update, I let it go 100%.
4.At this point it finally showed up as a channel and I selected it. However after loading it went to unable to read disk (green letters, white screen).so I reset the console.
5.I put in the Config 1.3 disk and changed the region override to on and the read speed to 3x.
6.Reset the wii and put my burned SSBB back in. It did the same thing at the same point. I ejected it on the same white screen and put it back in at which it loaded to the start screen and began to play without any more issues. I powered it off and ejected the disk and then tried it again, this time it went straight through without any issue whatsoever.

HarisF - people here do this for free to help one another out. If you can't be bothered to try and help yourself by searching 1st then why should anyone be bothered to try and help you?

seriously, those excessive pages you talk about are the ones that have the info you need. Get some manners, learn some etiquette and read the pages.

alright so i left a post earlier today and it seems as if my Wii key is updated fine and does read SSBB properly when i took it in to complain, those guys proved me wrong. Hence i burnt SSBB wrong, the dude started blabbing about 2 things "code" and "layer break" enough information to find out whats wrong.
As another user posted, he basically used IMGBurn 2.4.0.0 to burn the USA SSBB ISO with special settings for the DL disc
RECAP: open up SSBB by using IMGBURN, go to TOOLS > SETTINGS > WRITE > under layer break options > select USER SPECIFIED and insert 2084960 and BURN on a DL DVDR 8.5
And as the user posted, he said you still get the white disc error screen but by skipping the intro video your good to go. NOW the issue is i went through the game to see any other faults and found out you still get that white screen saying disc cannot be read AGAIN during the new adventure mode.
So what is the proper layer breaking way? or is the WIIZARD release of SSBB not good? or am i still doing something wrong. or could it be the Wii itself I JUST DONT KNOW..but heres the catch the SSBB the dude at the store had ..the intro worked FINE!!!!
i jus dont get it.
Well hopefully someone will read this and input or comment or suggest or make an effort or dont have to as long as the information i provide could be useful for another person + to figure out the solution is all i need
take care guys. SSBB is crazy ;)
peace.

This is a FIRMWARE thread not to complain on SSBB for that reason the MODs have stickied a thread where you can go ask about DL breaks and whatever you want, here is only for Firmware updates, for example the one we are waiting to be released for the WiiKey so ifyou want to ask about SSBB go here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/618029
PSP (+[__]%): 2.80 < 1.50 > 3.40OE-A > 3.71M33-4 > 3.80m33-5 > 3.90m33-3 > 4.01m33-2 + 8gb MSPD
PS3 HD 60GB: 1.33 > 1.90 > 2.01 > 2.17 - NO OS

@icykle:
Usually that error means a bad burn.
@blkhawk:
The regular, filechopped, pre-padded, GCOS versions are there so that we have different choices when trying to update/config the Wiikey. Some will find that the regular version will work fine, some others will have to filechop or use the padded ones, others, will need the hacked versions.
In general I would start by burning the original versions, and following the directions that come with them. Then, if things do not work, I would move to filechopped/padded ones, etc...
Your Wii should be updated at 3.2 with Wiikey 1.9g and, if you want, REGION OVERRIDE turned ON.
@HarisF:
You may try original SMG. That should un-brick your console. Then, update your Wii to 3.2 using the Internet. Make sure your Wiikey is up to 1.9g.
Use Nero or Imgburn to burn the SSBB iso (Use good medi, burn at 2.4x)
@cherrin:
Compared to other systems, the Wii's laser seems to be more delicate. Usually unable to read disc means just that. Therefore it's either a bad burn, of a combination of laser power and minor burn problem is causing temporary glitches.
Where's the party?!?

Hello I'm new to forum and I'm trying to recover my wiikey. I bought the original copy of SSB and tried the 70% corruption method to turn off the wiikey. Now my wii won't play any of my backup games and it still won't even play my SSB. I then tried recovering the wiikey using the 1.9b recovery disk, but that didn't work. How can I get my wii to read backups again? It won't read the recovery disc. I read through the forums and tried everything. I burned the recovery discs at 2x,3x,4x and 6x using imgburn and verbatim dvd-r discs. My system is Ntsc, updated to 3.2 and has the original wii key. Can someone please help me recover my wiikey? I'm now thinking my wiikey is dead and won't read backups anymore.

Try this, boot up your console with the recovery disk in and press "A" when prompted to get to the main menu. Let it set for 5-10 minutes to be sure while doing nothing.The disk will show no signs whatsoever that it is doing anything. After the time has elapsed pull the power cord out of the back of the Wii effectively "hard booting" it. Wait 10 sec. or so and plug it back in(the whole time leaving the recovery disk in the console), get back to the main menu and let it sit there for a couple of minutes. If the GameCube screen pops up in the Game Channel window then it was a success, Otherwise you will have start the whole process over again. Some people have had to do this a few times to get it to take.

I used just the first one listed on the first page of this discussion. I unzipped it and burned the ISO.
