Well, first of all, thank you CamDog for writing your guide. I was able to follow everything up to the part where you log in to the website. I am using a linksys router, but the website looks different. No matter, i was able to log in, and i think i did everything correctly. Well, the torrents are still REALLY slow. I have a 2 MB connection, and im downloading stuff at 5 kb/sec.... Also, can anyone help me with direct downloads? It takes me about 3 hours to download 30 Megabytes.. I dont know why this is happening, it wasnt before. Oh, yeah, i did save the changes, so i know it wasnt that. I also have a picture of the changes i made if anyone wants to see it, but i dont know a website to host the pic so i can add it to my post.

ok guys, beat this!

basically, i wanted to check my config on my router, however, it would not load so i turned everything off by the mains and then back on.

Once i did this, i was able to get back into the config...However, the torrents ports are now blocked and whatever i do in the config, even XP SP2 firewall is off, they will not work.

Uhmmm...linksys WRT54G (piece of &^$%)

Can anyone solve this mystery.......

Hi,

I followed all the steps outlined the very first message. It has helped a lot. I used Zone Alarm Pro and have allowed all TCP incoming/outgoing connections from 6881 - 65535.

My tag has turned from yellow - green, there is no NAT error, and testing shows everything is A-ok. My download speeds have changed from 1.5KB/s - 10KB/s. I have a 512 /128Kbps ADSL connection.

When I download music using say Lime Wire - I get speeds of about 50KB/s.

Now, So should I be happy with the download speeds or not?

Thanks to the person who showed clear instructions.

Thank You Camdog and others that have contributed to this thread, I can finally enjoy fast BitTorrent downloads above 40KB/s with a 512 DSL connecction, I simply followed the advice give in his clear instructions right at the beginning of the thread, Configured my router (Netgear DG834G (port forwading technique), configured Zone Alarm Pro software firewall to accept tcp/udp Ports: 6881-6889 and configured all 16 windows firewall ports manully and now i'm enjoying incredibly fast download speeds, green status LED in Torrent storm.

My best advice is find out how to config your router and firewalls properly, remember that each router configurement method is different from each but the settings are similar http://www.portforward.com is the best place to learn how to config your router.
Most of all be patient and probably through trial and error you'll work it out - it took me a week to get all the settings corrct, so don't expect to get it right first time.

Good Luck

Mr. KP forgot one thing you have to set a static ip address first. Then forward ur ports to that static ip address.

This is to kongking & rifter,

kong king: The ports you need to open are 6881-6889. These are the default ports for Azureus. Now if you use a different bit torrent client, then go to http://www.portforward.com and go to ports list to find your client's default ports. If that doesnt work, then go your client's homepage and see if the port numbers are given there.

Rifter: You need to have a static IP address. To find out your IP address, following the instructions given by CAMDOG at the beginning of this thread. Then configure your router as CAMDOG has clearly instructed. You might need to forward each port at a time instead using ranges like: 6881-6889. This is what I had to do because my router did not allow me to set ranges. I use Zone Alarm Pro as my firewall and I dont use Windows XP firewall. To turn the Window's XP firewall (which is probably not good anyway) follow these steps:

1: Control Panel > Network Connections >> "Pick the one you are using for the internet" > Properties > Advanced Tab --> Make sure the first box at the top is not ticked.

2. Then open up Zone alarm Pro > Firewall tab. Click custom in "Internet Zone Security" > Tick "Allow incoming / outgoing UDP / TCP ports" and at the bottom give the ranges 6881-6889. At least this is what I did. Do the same for the trusted zone. This is also what I did. I am also a beginner and this is probably way too much information, but it worked for me. If anyone has a better much simpler approach do tell me.

3. Once you have done all this, use the configuration window and configure your bit torrent client (like in Azureus), and do a test using port 6881 (it will all be filled out ready for you in Azureus). Then you should get a green smiley face, which means everything is A-ok.

Thank you.

Azureus User.

rdevanat ok first let me warn u that opening as many ports as you have seriously compromises ur security. U need no more open than u will run at the same time. Due to the fact that running more than one download at a time seriously drains resources u really can't use more than 10. Second the default ports for bit torrent are 6881 -6999 for any router, and any bit torrent program, not just Azureus. Also when u test a port u do not necessarily test 6881, you test the port that the client is listening on. In addition when setting a static ip address there is a step missing from Camdog's and www.portforward.com's instructions. After filling in the ip address, subnet mask, gateway, and dns server info in the internet connection properties you need to go into advanced and change the default to enable netbios over tcp. I also do not recommend newbies or those who are having difficulty setting this up to use Azureus as it is known to be difficult to get working. It is java based and for a lot of people that alone causes problems. I recommend Bit tornado.

Huh I am confused, since posing my last message my last message my LED thing has gone back to yellow! What the hell's going on, I haven't touched a thing, all I did was open up my BitTorrent client this morning and to my surprise after 10 mins the thing is stil yellow and my download speed again is not above 5 KB/s. How do you set a static IP again?

Oh Yeah, Well if that supid guy Kerry had won I probably would have move out of the country. Sorry but had to say something back. Now for my problem.

I'm new at this and have tried several diff. clients. I have dsl and my up load is around 320kb/s and dl around 1300kb/s I am using a wireless router. D-link 624 and I'm on the wireless computer. I opend the ports and get green lights but my download is mainly at 10kb - 20kb. I got up to 100kb at one time and that is where I think I should be. but it doesn't stay there. I have cybersitter and I wanted to know if maybe it is keeping my dl from going at full speed. but if it does't have anything to do with that then I don't know what could be wrong. Please help me. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Chocfriend.

Ya, I changed my port settings now. I read some other forums which recommended those port settings. I also am trying the NetBios activation. Do I have also allow incoming NetBios ports, cause at the moment I havent in Zone Alarm Pro.

Let me know.

Hi, i have a bittorrent router problem, and chocfiend u seem like quite the expert. can u please help me re-open my ports or whatever? im getting Yellow Light status in Bitornado, and usually download at 15 kb while my friend goes at 80, same file. I have a D-Link DI-704P (i hope u are familiar with this.) I did the NAT check and it failed. :( i use a PPPoE not static IP address. If you can help me, thanks! Oh by the way my advanced configurations does not have a *blank* to *Blank* port thing, which is why i am very confused. Thanks if any1 can help me.

Jmix u still need to set a static ip http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm then open ports in or disable the xp firewall http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/ports.mspx then open ports in ur router using the static ip address u set http://portforward.com/routers.htm in service ports u would list the ports u want to forward 6881-6999 then change the ports in bit tornado (in Prefs) to 6881-6999 and uncheck randomize. When u run the nat test use the listening port listed in advanced for the torrent u r testing.

does anyone here have a DL speed faster than the UL one? I always get a fast UL speed but my DL always stays low
I'm assuming it's not the problem with my firewall since I still have a remarkable UL speed
and it's not about seed either cause no matter how many seeds the torrent file has, my DL dpeed can never exceed the UL one, which is so stupid!!!
can anyone explain how I got to this problem?
