Hi I was referring to this guide, but I have a few questions, as some of the descriptions here seem to be a little vague.

Now I have a lynksis router system, the same as shown here by the original poster. The router is connected to the main computer downstairs, while the wireless adapter is connected onto this machine.

While the router's IP adress ends in 100, this computers' IP adress ends with 101. So basically what I really need to know, is WHICH IP adresses I need to insert into the router setup and which one I need to set for the ports (on here). Hopefully someone can help me out with this.

I have inserted 101 in both instances. I still have the Yellow light. I am downloading at 30 to 40 Kbs per second... not all that good. I belive I have done the steps correctly, but any other suggestions would help. By the way I have TorrentStorm. Do any of you recommend maybe using a different torrent app? Maybe that would help but I have no idea.

Also, not sure how to check for or to disable firewalls. Though I have follwed the instructions on here. ( I don't have Norton's Firewall, but I do have XP.) Well any help would be appreciated.

I'm having bittorrent problems, but as far as I can see I've tried everything to fix it thats listed on thse pages, but I'm still getting speeds usually around 1-4KB/s and no greater than 10 KB/s. Before I installed XP service pack 2, all was well, but I don't really want to remove it (I've heard it doesn't take to being unistalled too well) or have to reinstall Windows. Heres my spec:

XP Service Pack 2
Shareaza/BitTornado/Azureus (I only ever run one at a time; they are all configured to use 16881 as their port)
Netgear DG834G (with 16881 opened and directed to my PC).

Thanks.

Hmm...upon further inspection, it may be a moot point to use Forwarding, if you have specific ISP's that automtatically give you differnt IP's when you are online. The IP that you are using is the Router IP, not the specific computer's, so when you log on essentially the router assigns the comp that you are using a different IP. So, even though my IP is 192.168.2.101 that'[s just probably my adapter IP, with my router IP being .100
So, basically, Fowarding would work if you had a static IP, but not if it's dynamic and changes. :/

I've gone through most of the thread, but still cant increase my upload and download rate. Thing is, I have a PC, laptop, D-link wireless router and a motorola cable modem.

I have done the procedure to port forward for the wireless router. Do I have to port forward the cable modem too?

I'm using Shadow's experimental bit torrent client, and the button is always yellow. How can I increase my dl and ul speeds?

My PC's on Win2000, how do I open ports?

I figured it out!!! After much trial and error, I finally fixed this whole port forwarding torrent thing. The only thing I can recomment is read the entire thread and RESTART your computer after changes have been made. That's how I got mine to work.

hmm... im really pissed off at the moment. my nb1300plus4 is seemingly not forwarding ports correctly, making my bittorrent downloads slower than my crummy old dialup connection. last week it was working fine without any port forwarding at all and i did not change any of my modem/router settings or anything on my computer.

ive been scouring forum sites looking for a solution but nothing seems to be working. strangely, when i forward any ports to my computer, these ports become stealthed on any port scans, just like when you forward a port to the broadcast ip. similarly, when i tried doing a DMZ on my computer, every single port became stealthed. >_< ive given my computer a static ip and everything - it all seems to make no difference at all.

i have 2 computers connected to the router and the same problem occurs on each now.

edit: i discovered that my router is running on 'napt' mode now and this has not been configured (ie no 'sessions'). i cant seem to get it to go onto dynamic napt either :s

anyone know how to set up napt for 2 computers on this modem/router?

thanks

munkus

Both give me only 5.3kB/s I have changed the ports as some have suggested. I am in the UK and use an ISP, I have a firewall on my PC and virus + addware stuff. I have done the cmd ipconfig bit and do not get anything back. Is this beause I use an ISP and do not have a router. I have a cable modem which runs at 300k. Could someone explain why I am getting such slow times. ONCE i did hit 20k ! ! ! one download is saying 1 week 6 days the other 1 week 5 days. HELP ! I think I might give up.

Then I tried enabling in BitTornado and in router, which im not sure how rare is the feature to support, Upnp port forwarding, after just that change green light status and upto 200k downloads ive seen.

Ok, opening the ports for me is no problem, just open each port in TCP & UDP. I am using the XP firewall and don't have a router just the DSL modem.

What I want to know is, what IP address do I enter as mine is a static IP. Do I enter the subnet mask or what? Or do I not need to do this, I just open the ports and that's it?

Yeah I have BitTornado, I have opened ports 6881 - 6889 in windows firewall and set the range in BitTornado to that and selected randomize, now I get good 116kbps speeds with albums, but other things are no no, games start slow and one went up to 30 kbps in a few minutes but they settle at bt 5-10 kbps. I mean I had the tom jones 4 disc collection going at 116+, the file was 604mb and it only took 2hrs 15mins. That is a great improvement, but why do I not see this improvement with bigger files like games and movies that are over 2gig?

I have two more sets of ports to open that I seen on this forum, 50505 - 50606 & 6881 - 6999, now that is over 100 ports, 200 even cuz I have to open both TCP & UDP. Now that will take ages to do in the windows firewall. And I don't use a router, so what firewall can I dl that allows port ranges to be set, that is also free and good. I had Symantec personal firewall before, is it any good?

I also googled for ways of increasing my torrent download speeds and came across this guide. I have a speedstream router on a dsl connection. The dsl comes from the walljack into the router, then I split it with a hub to two computers.

I've already checked my router configuration and set it up to forward ports 6881 - 6889 to the computer that has a torrent client on it. I have disabled the horrible windows xp firewall and don't have any software/hardware firewalls running.

However, my download speed still sucks. I'm lucky if I get 20 kb/s, but friends of mine (on the same DSL connection) regularly get 150 kb/s speeds when using torrent clients to download.

For what it's worth, I'm using Azureus 2.2.0.0. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
