What's the quickest and easiest way to see what version firmware I have for the wiikey? Think I am running lastest beta, but want to check.

Also, what is the recommended drive speed I should set it at? I believe I am at 6x

If you can play SMG then you have 1.9g ... that's the only way.

Leave the speed at 6x unless you have problems reading discs.

Definitely do not use DVD+RW for update/config discs.

I tried the 70% thing, and now my wii is not functioning properly. whenever i put in a dvd that the wii doesnt recognize,it spins for a few secs and completely stops. then when i eject, it ejects it half way, pulls the disk back in, and then spits the disk out completely. and after that i need to turn my wii off completely or any disk i put in will ahve the same outcome.

So i was wondering did u manage to fix ur wii snoba? or anyone else that had the same problem as me? I have done tons of tries with the recovery disk. burned at 4x and 2.4x, nonpadded/padded/gcos/non-gcos.. also tried using reset button, power button, and unplugging completely. maybe its cuz i'm using DVD+RW disks? the 1.9b update disk burned fine on that tho...

Hello looking for some guidance or ideas or pretty much anything at this point.
I have a wii from the launch date, had a wiikey (most likely a clone bought it on ebay for pretty cheap) installed a couple of months after we bought the wii. My son's back-upped games have worked flawlessly for all this time. Just recently upgraded to 1.9g and 3.2u and have been playing his back-ups of smg and ssbb without any problems, then last night I started to get read disc errors, the wii wouldn't recognize an original or a back-up, put in the 1.9b recovery disc, the gamecube icon came on immediately, I waited about 4 minutes then updated the wii to 1.9g. Everything was good to go so far, I was thinking great everything will be alright and I can quit sweating, well I put a game disc in and it would play anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes and then the disc read error would come up again, I repeated this cycle 3 times before I figured that I wasn't going to get any different results. Does any one have an inkling what the problem might be. I'm leaning towards the wiikey being fried any theories or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Snoba77ER:
Any chance you can tell us what you did that made yours suddenly work?

WiirForce:
I bought mine about 2-3 weeks ago. The static bag was not even sealed when I got it, and the chip was out of the bag. That made me skeptical, but I did it anway. I'm by no means an advanced solderer, but I did have training about 4 years ago, lol, and I'm about 99.9% sure that it's not my solder job! I never contacted Foundmy. In eagerness to get this working quickly, I just went ahead and bought 2 more chips! 1 to try again myself, and if that doesn't work, 1 fresh one to send off to a professional install place I found with a 1 day turnaround after they receive the unit, and I'm gonna have them do it!

I already have confirmation as of yesterday (bought on Sunday night) of my two chips coming, so I should have them NLT Friday. I'll post back with results!

How do we even know the wiikey team is even working on anything? Has anyone seen any "official" notices from them? On forums or whatever..?!

so i'm preparing all the discs right now for when i get to install my wiikey but i have no idea what the 'hex config 1.2' disc is all about. there isn't any info mentioned about it(at least from what i've read). for a second i thought it was the same thing as the hacked config 1.3 disc, but now i'm not too sure. do i even need it? can i get a little bit more info on that.

Hi it's my first time posting here.

Before I did any research I went out and purchased SSBB only to find out it doesn't work before I popped it in my Wii, remembering that I have a chip, and didn't want to brick my system.

I have wiikey version 1.9g and I can play my backup of SMG just fine (from what I remember, it was months ago :)). A backup of SSBB USA-NTSC is almost done as we speak, but can I play online with this? I want to play with my friends....

I'm not sure if my Wii is updated to most recent firmware? Is 1.9g the most recent for the WiiKey? Will the most recent Wii firmware work fine with this? What is the official Wiikey website, I can find it anywhere?

Yeah original SSBB doesn't work on wiikey at this time.

You don't say what region your Wii is but in any case update online to the latest version 3.2 before doing anything. Wiikey - 1.9g is the latest version and the wiikey site is gone. Don't ask what's gonna happen about that cos nobody knows.

If you have a JAP or PAL Wii you might wanna strip out the firmware update before playing. This can be done using a ppf that is available all over - If you are downloading the game then I'm sure you can find that yourself. The game will still update your system but only with the necessary code required to play SSBB.

Online play is no problem if you can get the game to run. I can on my wiikey but loads can't. Memorex seems to be the most successful media from what I read but I myself have the game running with Aone and Verbatim.

Hi mate.

Last night i was desperately trying to find a solution for that one...

I couldn't use the GCOS discs since i don't have a gamecube controler.

The 1.2 hex one serves to "hack" the need for the GC controler if i'm not mistaken. You insert it, after the gamecube icon appears on the main wii screen start it.
After it boots, it'll ask for the system disk. Insert the original 1.2 config disk, and press reset. The system won't reset, instead, it will boot the original 1.2 config dvd.

After that, instead of navigating using a GC controler, you can use the reset key. Press softly to select the option. Hold reset for 1 second to select the option.

Hope this one serves as an aid for anyone needing info on this subject.

I don't think the 1.2 HEX works with the 1.3... I haven't found a 1.3 HEX config disk yet :S Would be good to find one, or even a wavebird GC controler :(

Cheers

The Hexed disks are actually unpadded images - in other words they are burnt as they are - Padded ones are burnt to full size GCOS images. Sometimes you can't get unpadded to run.

Gday,

Question regarding updating 3.1/3.2 with my PAL wii. Under my wii settings it identifies my version as 3.0E. However i've updated it using SMG, battalion wars 2 & fire emblem: radiant dawn. I've ran the 1.3 wii config disc and I've got no idea how to get it to 3.1/3.2

Also, tried a backup version of SSB. The update froze at 90%. Now when i put it in and try to update it again it will freeze immediately. Just a heads up if u try running SSB on 3.0E. Howver all backup games still run perfectly.

You shouldn't have tried SSBB without being fully updated. Your "headsup" ain't exactly news as it's a well known fact that updating with out of region games can brick your Wii and if your Wii is PAL then SSBB ain't right for it as it has to be USA or JAP at this time. The best way to update is online so I'd go check you can still access your settings and do that. If you can't then you're stuck until Mario Kart PAL arrives on disk.

EDIT - sorry forgot SSBB PAL might fix actually but that has the 3.1 update in any case and 3.2 is only available online at this time.

Actually, all the other backup games still run perfectly. And SSB was converted to PAL with the released patch. So i'm wondering am i only bricked from playing SSB.

Also, if anyone could spare some time telling me how to get it to 3.1/3.2 even though i've ran so many updates from new games and the 1.3 wii config disc.

EDIT - just read your edit. So 3.2 is via online. And 3.1 is only available through SSBB? Thanks for the info =]
