Hi guys, I just need a confirmation.
I'm trying to fix my PAL Wii that's semi-bricked with MarioStrikers NTSC.
Do I:
Issit before or after? Issit:
Step 1: Update Wiikey firmware to 1.9g
Step 2: Update Wii firmware with SMG
OR
Step 1: Update Wii firmware with SMG
Step 2: Update Wiikey firmware to 1.9g?
Just wanna make sure I get the order right. Which is it? Thanks in advance!

@ dhess83 - this is for general wii/wiikey discussion - ssbb is discussed in another thread. I'd read up stuff in there and ask there as well. Your problem is prolly media - DVD+R DL is what most ppl use. Memorex seems to work best from what I read but I have Verbatim and Aone working. Anyway - use the other thread.
@ CIoaked - The ONLY way to fix a bricked Wii is with a GAME disk with a higher firmware and the US game with the highest firmware is SSBB which is at 3.1U. If you bricked with the JAP SMG then it might fix it. If you bricked with the PAL then it might not because 3.1E is later than 3.1U i.e. regarded as higher. 3.2 might appear with Mario Kart.
@ DanTeeCee Again this thread isn't really here for Brawl problems but I tried Freeloader backup the other day just for the sake of it on my backup of SSBB - I tried it with region override on and off and it doesn't work. But I don't care cos brawl works anyway. I was just curious about freeloader - I think it's prolly pants unless you wanna play older imported games on a none chipped system and only for now as well. What's the point of releasing software to play the latest imports if they say they can't guarantee it working with future firmware updates?

Any ideas on this?
-Wii was 3.0U
-bought wii already modded, looks like wiikey.
-SMG original worked fine, although rarely I have to try loading a few times due to disk read error. All backups (did not have SMG backup)worked.
-Updated to 3.2U, SMG worked fine as did all backups (did not have SMG backup).
-Put in SSBB backup, disk recognized, SSBB update loaded, goes to start screen, then black screen "disk read error". All other games still work.
-made a SMG backup, got "unauthorized device error". All other stuff that previously worked, still works.
I assumed I had 1.9g update because SMG original worked. Now that I have the SMG backup and it does not work, and SSBB doesn't work, I am wondering if maybe I did not have 1.9g. SMG original still works. Is it still safe to try the 1.9g update or was I correct in that SMG original worked, it must have been 1.9g? Any other comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

The 1.9g update is NOT for the original SMG. It's for the backup. All originals except SSBB should work with wiikey regardless of what it's firmware is at.

I did the 1.9g update and now the SMG backup works and the SSBB backup works. Also seems that everything else I had that used to work, still works. Completely successful.
Learnings:
-Being able to play original SMG did not mean that the 1.9g update was installed. Only the backup could not play unless the 1.9g update was installed.
-The 1.9g update disk was not recognized by the wii on my first try. I got an "error, shut off system message". My Wii was in the upright position. I put the Wii in the flat position and it then was able to recognize the 1.9g update as a GameCube disk and everything worked perfectly from there.

Due for release on 30/05/2008 in UK according to play.com .... which if true is a disgrace, though we are used to this kinda crap - thankfully we get to play the import while we wait :)

hi guys,
i was wondering how to make multi-game gamecube discs, as the link in the initial post is screwed up, I think their website had some problems a while back. Could anyone provide a link for a good tutorial?
Thanks : )

As for a new update beyond 1.9G for the Wiikey...
Does ANYONE even know if it is being worked on, or are we all needlessly waiting for nothing?
I would rather know now that the Wiikey team is DOA and that we all need to get a kill switch or look at another mod chip.
What's the word out there folks???

So, what is the update on the new wii firmware that came out almost yesterday, since I heard that it doesn't let you play traucha center or freeloader backups. Are there any confirmations of this, or any other problems that have been discovered from this new update?

I didn't see anywhere in the info I've read that backups are disabled.
Until the system menu is updated to use IOS37, it will have no effect.
Once the system menu is updated to use IOS37, "Trucha-Signed" discs - or channels - will stop working, as will the Freeloader disc.
At that point, "homebrew channels" would be considered "invalid" by the system. The consequences of this are unclear, but that could potentially prevent the Wii from booting.
Other versions of IOS are not affected.
The Twilight Hack is unaffected.

Hey everyone,
I'm not sure if anyone has already seen it, but while I was browsing the web, I found this. It's called the Wii Duplicate Channel Remover, and you can probably guess what it does from the name ; )
I'm not sure if it works as I haven't got any duplicate channels, but I thought I'd post it here so people could have a look. I think it is only for PAL Wiis, but i'm not sure.

Or a direct link, although I suggest reading up on it before downloading.

Btw, I did not create this, and am not responsible for anything at all that involves this software. I just thought it looked interesting.

Hey guys, i am new to posting and to modification of the wii. About 2 months ago i bought a wii from craigslist that was modded with the wii key. Plays fine with all the games i have even with super mario galaxy. I recently purchased Super Smash bros on its released date and at first it did not let me play it. I guess after an update it allowed me to play then come to realize that no back up gc or wii game now works. Please can somebody help me on this issue. I dont know what kind of wii key with what update i have. The guy i bough it from gave me wiikey utilities cd, wiikey 1.3 setup disc, and a wiikey setup disc 1.2 and neither and of discs work.. please help thanks

The fact that the Original SSBB disc works abd all the other backups do not seem to indicate a non-functional Wiikey. Maybe the chip died, or possibly the soldering broke.
Did you move/tansport/shake your Wii before the problem?

As reported:
www.wiikey.cn is back up and it looks like some 'authorized' resellers have received sample chips with a new firmware for test purposes.
It appears that the Wiikey team might have good news for us.

Wii firmware IOS37 update was released on March 22 as reported by Wiibrew.
It appears that the update is designed to disable hacks and exploits that allow running homebrew material.
This firmware update has nothing to do with modchips or games. If you plan on using any of homebrew material, such as the "Homebrew Channel" hack, games modified with Trucha Signer, or Datel's Free Loader DO NOT UPDATE YOUR WII!!!
