1) Are you sure you have a Wiikey?
2) Have you used the correct region update?
3) Have you tried both the regular and the filechopped version?
4) If you tried 3) and did not work, have you tried the GCOS version?
5) Does the Config 1.2 disc work on your Wii?
6) After you hera the SEGA sound what do you see on the screen?
7) Do backups work, both Wii and GameCube?
8) Are you using DVD-R discs?
9) What burning speed are you using?

Hey guys :) how do I determine what version/firmware my Wiikey has? Since I updated to 1.9s... said it was successful, but nothing seemed to have changed.

Thanks! I feel a little relieved now...
You mean the 1.4 config discs don't work on 1.9g?

Well, i'm not 100% sure as I bought the system in China, but I know I can play downloaded games, is there a way to find out for sure? I'm not sure which region update it is actually... Is that just the Japanese configs? I have tried all the files, regular, filechopped, AND GCOS version. I will try the config 1.2 as i have not tried that, only tried 1.3 and 1.4. After the sega sound, it tells you to press A to run test and it fails. I'm not sure about the backups as i have never tried them either. I'm using HP DVD-R, and I'm burning @ 4x
Thanks for the quick reply, it is much appreciated

Ok - all you know is you have a "chip" ...If it's not a GC2-D2B chipset then it won't be a wiikey. Check here...
http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php
If you have a GC2-D2C then you will almost certainly have a D2CKey which doesn't require updating which leads me to this next question...
What problems have you had with any games that would make you think your chip, if it is a wiikey, needs updating?
Media - use Verbatim DVD-R using imgburn @ 4x to burn.

AAHHHH - can someone help here - I've been at this for ages ...
Chipped my wii this morning and am trying to get it working so it reads back-up disks.
The Wii powers up ok, and will play original games.
When I load the padded config disk (burned using Imgburn and Imation+R DVDs) - the Wii cannot read it but as said will play original games including SMGalaxy OK.
Have tried may versions of the Config file (1.3, 1.3, 1.4) but Wii won't read the disks.
Any ideas - for example will the Wii only read DVD-R ( I'm trying to use DVD+Rs).
Thanks in advance

It's possible a Wii will read various types of disk and brands but generally the most popular, because of success, is Verbatim DVD-R. You wanna try others then by all means - I can get other things to work as well but it's down to burner as well - trial and error...

I have a first generation wii with the wiikey. the last game i actually played on the wii would be big brain academy. That means I haven't updated my Wii with any of the nintendo updates or the wiikey. I was wondering how should i go about updating my wii with the 1.9s wiikey update? should i do the wiikey updates first before the nintendo updates? do i need to load in all the other wiikey updates or i can just jump straight to 1.9s? Should i update my wii with any of the nintendo updates or just load in the retail ssbb to do the nintendo update?

Thanks JunIR.
Is there any way of knowing the Wiikey is connected correctly and operational - other than visual inspection?

Right - have managed to check continuity of all points except one of the "big" solder points on the Wiikey PCB.
i.e. continuity checked between Wiikey PCB and the D2B chip legs.
Can someone tell me where there should be continuity on the main Wii board for the 2 "big" solder points?
Have a phot of this but don't know how to post it on this forum.
Thanks for any help/guidance
(nearly there I think....)

If you can get the wiikey updated first it might work out easier.

Go straight to 1.9s. Only try 1.9g say if you are struggling to get 1.9s in but theoretically there's no need.

If you update online it's better and will take you to 3.2... SSBB has 3.1 and can be used instead as the next best thing.

You needed to post the link given under this title...
IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards
... but anyway - I seen the pic. I dunno how how you test the points you refer to ... Job looks ok tho.
In any case I'd try different disks - like I say Verbatim DVD-R @4x using imgburn. Media is the most common problem ppl have with all modchips, and one that many underestimate because they assume whatever stock they've used to date for all other purposes must be ok when it actually has no bearing at all on how it works on Wii.

Trying to run Mario Kart with 1.9s and latest f/w.But whenever I insert the disc it still asks me to update my wii via the disc.I've held back 'cause it seems a little odd to me and I don't want to brick it or something. What do I do?

Hey, need some advice. Had a friend install my Wiikey a long while back, and it has worked great. Now I'm needing to update because of SSBB.
Since I've never done an update before, is it okay to go straight to 1.9s? Would I NEED to use the config disc for anything? I'm a little apprehensive, since most backups seem to work great right now and I don't want to screw anything up... any help is appreciated.
