Doesn't matter - memorex are NOT the most reliable of disks and Nero is NOT the best program for burning disks for Wii.

Verbatim DVD-R @4x using imgburn.

It can mean there's a problem with the wiikey fitting but if other disks play ok that's wouldn't seem to be it. The other thing it means is you have a clone wiikey and it won't update... solution replace it with a genuine one.

Thanks junir. Now that you correct me, it means that for each own region its own firmware takes higher precedence over the other region's firmware e.g. Jap wii will think that 3.1J is of higher firmware than 3.1E, thus when I load the SSBB(J), it ask me to update my Wii.

I believe MK PAL has 3.1E and the only way to ubbrick is with a disk with 3.2U in your case. No disk has this at this time. You will have to wait.

No it doesn't mean that. If you update a JAP Wii with 3.1E and try to update again with 3.1J it won't do it. You need 3.2J

Then how come, i have fixed my semi-bricked wii with SSBB(J)? I thought SSBB(J) contains 3.1J. FYI, I have semi-bricked my Jap wii, when i tried to play SMG PAL on it.

Could be media and burning method.

Try Verbatim DVD-R using imgburn @4x - if you still get nothing with any bruned disks then I'd test your wiikey fitting with a multimeter.

You are right to say SSBB original would only play on a wiikey with 1.9s but only if correctly fitted. If incorrectly fitted it might play anyway so you can't therefore assume the wiikey has 1.9s and personally I doubt it does if you haven't updated it. It's more likely to have come with a lower firmware imho.

I can only assume you didn't take the full firmware update and therefore the Wii's firwmare version didn't actually go to 3.1.

Use the SSBB thread for prolbems realating to running that game. There are ppl with the same problem there.

I see, that might be the case. I might have switched my wii off when it does the update. :) Thanks for the clarification.

To gggu, so from juniR, it seems to me that you also didn't fully update your wii to 3.1 thus that means any game that contains 3.1J can actually help you fixed your semi-bricked wii. :)

It might - you can only try - If the firmware has gone up to 3.1 in the semi-bricking process it won't work.

Just wondering.. is there something BEYOND 3.2U?! My wii keeps telling me that there are more updates to download when I click on certain channels (shop for one) but my system is at 3.2U already. Is the update downloaded in parts like 3.2UA,B,C or something and is it safe? I'm at 1.9s.

As for my previous problem , I just wanted to share that it was due to a WiiFrii. If you get error messages updating to 1.9s, it might be due to that. Wiikey clones CAN update to 1.9s. Saw it done yesterday w/ a clone, no problems.

Thanks for everyone's help!

binaryfiz - yeah they often release updates which can be fixes or additions subsequent to major firmware releases. I think I've had about 3 since 3.2E and only the other day I went and deliberately checked for and took an update because I knew that BBC iplayer was being made available with it via the internet browser users on UK PAL.

I used a backup JAP version of Mario Kart and i am recieving an error 001 on a black screen after the initial loadup screen. The disk updated my system to version 3.2J, but do not know how to update the firmware and need advice on what i could do.

All my other games are still working.

Thanks in advance.
Hey Iceman. Are you from Hong Kong? Haha... a lot of Wii owners here run run backup games and own chipped Wiis. Anyway, the point is most Hong Kong Wiis are chipped with Wiikey, as far as I know. But regarding your question, have you tried using the Generic Wii Patcher? It eliminates error-001 in most cases. Also, you may want to take a look in the MK forum.

More JAP-Wii owners should speak up! We need help!!
Hey gggu ;

Thanks for your info....but like i said i am a complete novice with this stuff. I basically need this to be told me to set by step.

How would i use the generic wii patcher ?

How can i update my wiikey to 1.9s

Do i need to burn these programs onto a disk and then run it on the wii ??

Thanks for helping me out.

Okay, but as far as we know, it's safe to accept this minor updates w/ 1.9s right?

yeah I've heard of no problems. I don't see why there should be either personally. That's the bottom line tho - problems only come to light when ppl start to report them of course.

...and re your last post - ppl should be clear - There is no guarantee all clone wiikeys can be updated because it's all over that ppl haven't been able to. To say that they "CAN" in that kind of emphatic way would imply that all clones are the same, in other words, pretty much generic and they aren't. Like all copies there will be good ones and bad ;)

uhm, it's strange... how can i know which update i have on my wiikey?
(Mario galaxy for me works very welll...mario kart too, both of them are backups, zelda (original) works too O.o

I'm not sure on what i've burnt on my dvds

(memorex dvd-r)...

should i create a gcos 1.9s update disc and then filechop it?And is good if i burn it with nero?i've imgburn too (and ultraiso)

Btw, now i'm remembering that i've a friend which went to the same shop to put wiikey on his wii (he went there before me) and he updated after (not to 1.9s but to a version before, because he had a version older than that)

so probably, i've the same wiikey and it's not "fake"... (but mine was updated when i tested mario galaxy)

If you can run SMG you definitely have at least 1.9g. The only way to verify you have 1.9s is to try SSBB original cos that's what 1.9s fixes.

No - it might well update to a point if it's a clone - I'm saying if it gets to that point and won't update further and gives that connection error as well, it can be an indication of a clone. Don't count your chickens m8. It's the error that's the main indicator cos so much is working for you without any problem. It's reading the update disk and telling you it can't connect properly to the chip to update it. It doesn't matter that it worked with previous updates. How do you know it isn't trying to access a previously unused part of the chip's memory to add more code and that's the connection error?

You wanna check? - you have to open the Wii and look. The only other thing you can do is ask the fitter if it's a clone. If he says no then you still have to check of course, but some will be straight and tell you if it is.

Ah... so I'm in the same situation you were in... Well, I only stopped the SMG updating to 3.2E when one quarter of the progress bar was filled, so I'm hoping like JuniR said, it hasn't fully gone up to the latest firmware. Fingers crossed now.

Yeah, like JuniR said, check out the first post of this thread... it's very useful! But while I'm posting I might as well tell you (briefly) that you should download the update from http://www.wiikey.cn . With the update though, unlike games you will have to filechop the update file itself into a 3GB+ image which you then burn to DVD.

As if problems with SMG were not enough, I recently tried playing Twilight Princess [PAL] on my JAP Wii and I get the black screen after selecting 'Start'. I can only assume it's the region's problem, so I'm going to try NTSC-U. I checked the gbatemp compatibility table, and for PAL it only partially works, and it needs Freeloader which I have no more energy to learn about yet. For NTSC-U it works fully, and says it was "tested with Wiikey"... can someone elaborate on this? Is it all I will need--no WBB, generic patcher, or language patcher?
