Hi, I'm trying to play SMG [NTSC-U] on my Jap Wii (ver 3.1J), and aside from using WBB, I also need to change the language to 1EN using Trucha signer. However, I'm getting the "error decrypting" message when trying to open the .iso, so I need a new key.bin.
It is hell trying to google for one!! I've trying "MD5 hash 8D1A2EBCD82A3469B77FACF15D9C8E50"; "key.bin newborn"... I've no knowledge whatsoever on programming, and I'm not telling anyone to give me a key.bin... but can someone tell me how I can get one?? Thanks.
PS: I've been following the gbatemp tutorial too.

Hi Mike. I'm not a senior member so I'm no expert, but what firmware version were you updating from, that you then got semi-bricked? I was semi-bricked too (couldn't access settings screen); by updating with a [PAL] game on my Jap Wii; but I stopped it at ~10%. I then updated my Wii with SSBB [NTSC-J] and my Wii was cured, now its 3.1J.

Hey guys, I need some help!
I have been trying to get region override to work on my Wiikey v1.9g NTSC-U Wii console and Wii FW 3.2. I have no way to access any config discs, I have tried 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 config discs and get the same error for them all....
I tried to use the Wii Free Loader (NTSC-U) but I get no signal and just a black screen like many ppl. I read the comments in the topics and tried inserting the disc not in the Wii channel and let it load, then inserting disc. Well it works but still I just get black screen.... any other options that worked for ppl?
I have searched many topics and found some helpful ones but none seem to help solve my problem, I read a few topics over at GBA and got really confused... LOL
Has anyone ran across this problem? If so, how did u manage to get region override to work? (Maybe I need to use the 1.9b recovery disc....)
Thanks!

Could you play backups from the same region as your wii? If so, you might have burned your config disc incorrectly. Make sure it's filechopped to the exact gamecube game disc size. For 1.9g firmware, you should config 1.2 or 1.3. 1.4 is for 1.9s firmware.

lilskater - use the hacked config - read the first post in this thread - it's in there so far down.

I am a senior member (no big deal tbh) but it doesn't make me an expert - and I'm not in any case. It just means I made a lot of posts afaik - It doesn't matter what your title is. If you think you know enough to help someone then that's the idea. If you don't have any clue then you'll maybe pick up what you need from what somebody who does know and you can help next time.
mikeh88 - if you updated your JAP wii with USA SSBB you need a disk with 3.2J firmware to fix. I'm not sure but ppl are talking about wii-fit so maybe that'll do it. Note you should only ever update with JAP disks and only a JAP disk will fix your issue.

Hi
I have a Jp Wii with a Wiikey (installed in Europe... don't know if that matters)
Practical result is that I can only play Japanese games. I have read the first post (not the entire thread though) and have tried to do the "reset" trick for the Wiikey but it won't work.
What do you recommend I do?
PS: my apologies for posting this in the wrong thread the first time around!

Yes backups work fine (NTSC-U). I have burned 5 different config discs LOL 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 for the heck of it lol Some of them already chopped and some non-chopped, I still got that same error as posted in my previous post. I think what happened is since I have updated to 3.2U, didn't the exploit and config disc get patched to not work anymore??? Thats all I can think of right now....
Thanks for helping m8!
@juniR
Hey dude, I have tried that hack 1.3 config disc. All I got is a black screen and nothing..... Now did I do this correctly? I downloaded the hack 1.3, extracted it, I noticed the first batch file for NTSC-U, clicked that and then an .ISO IMG appeared, roughly 4GB. I burned that .ISO IMG to DVD and inserted into the Wii. The GC screen popped up, I clicked start and nothing appears to happen... I have a GC controller plugged into the Wii console to. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong??
Thanks
Any other ideas??

I looked into the GC SD card method and the Movie SD card method, and while these look like nice options for Wii owners, they leave me wondering if anyone is working on Wii game compatibility through SD cards. Being the tree-hugger I am, I cringe each time I have to burn a one-time-only piece of plastic, knowing that it would make much more sense to use an almost infinitely re-usable SD card.
I support developers cutting out the middle man (ie, the retail stores) and just selling online content direct. The system that Nintendo has in place currently, along with what Apple has been doing over the years, does not instill faith though.

Ok if I get this right - you can play some backups so that would suggest the chip is working. It's just the config disks you are struggling with. They are seen in the channel window but you get black screen when you try and run no matter which version etc. Off the top of my head I've gotta go with the same ol' problem that is the main thing that ppl get - media.
How and what are you burning? If you are burning verbatim dvd-r @4x using imgburn then that would normally do it on most burners.

Yes thats correct, all backups seem to be working great! Those games are burned with Verbatim DVD-R, with NERO Burning ROM at 4x, work good. So yes the Wiikey seems to be working... lol Yes its the config disc that are not working, yes they show up as GC in the Wii channel. Then when I clicked them, I get that error I posted before....
Well u nailed it lol Yes there Verbatim DVD-R with NERO @ 4x. I need to try some other media? I have actually burned many copies of these config discs with different speeds, different applications, still no luck...:( I should have tried some different media but I don't have any right now.

If you haven't tried with imgburn I suggest you do that which was why I posted what would normally work. Verbatim should be fine. Nero is not as good for Wii disks generally and it doesn't matter that it works with some things either. Imgburn is more consistent for more ppl just like Verbatim DVD-R is.

Hey Guys, I Just got a quick question, I just bought a bunch of Memorex DVD+R DL dvd discs. And the Specs are:
8.5GB
240min VIDEO.
2.4X Writing Speed.
Quote:
"The DVD+R DL disc is 2.4X write Speed snd has 8.5GB of DATA."
Does this mean I have to burn iso's onto it at 2.4X? or any speed?
As I want to burn Wii/X360 Game iso's on to it.
Thanks in Advance.

Ok, i finally got my wii to start reading some of the backups. It would load the gcos but nothing after that. I did some more research and found out i have the 1.9g firmware. I tryed to run the config disc 1.4 and the wii recognized it as a gamecube game but when i ran the disc it gave me an error. After that it hasnt read any of my backups and only my originals. Does this mean i bricked my wiikey or could it have been a bad solder again.Any help is good, thanks.

Config 1.4 is for firmware 1.9s only. You have 1.9g, so try config 1.2, 1.3 or the hacked config from the first post.

lilskater - When you were updating your firmware to 1.9g, was that disc readable?
I'm thinking that you could've had a bad firmware update that caused the function to read gc discs defectively? I may be wrong. I would try update to 1.9s and use config 1.4 see what happens. If you want to play SSBB, you would have to update to 1.9s anyway. Agains, that's just my thought.
First, try burn discs with ImgBurn as juniR mentioned.

Only if it's original - SSBB backup works on 1.9g as well but in any case there's no reason not to go to 1.9s

Hi, I put in a WBB-ed [NTSC-U] SMG into my Wiikey ver 1.9s, firmware ver 3.1J Wii [JAP]; and I got the Super Mario Galaxy animation in the Game channel, but when I start the game, all I get is a blank black screen. Is this caused by WBB? What do I have to do to play SMG?

Hi,
I am having trouble with wiikey 1.9s and I can not read any non-oficial DVD.
I have a Wii with a Wiikey. I used to have wiikey config 1.3 and it did work. I tried to play Super Mario Galaxy (SMG) and it updated my firmware. It did not accept my SMG game (error n1) but I was able to play other non-oficial DVD games.
I tried to update my software with Wiikey config 1.9s using a DVD-R and properly filchop the file as suggested in previous forum. I got an error check at memory test :-( Iwould like to know why?
When I reset the Wii, it does not accept any non-oficial game anymore, even the previous WiiKey 1.9s. I tried the Wii Recover disc 1.9b and even this disc does not work. Any disc I insert, it says it can not read and ask to see the manual. I am still able to play oficial DVD games.
Any suggestions on how should I proceed? Any help is appreciated.

You could update to 1.9b, then try play some backups. If it's working, update it to 1.9s.
It's not necessary to use the config discs unless you want to turn on the Region Override option to play out-of-region games.
