***UPDATE***
Awesome! The Hacked Config disc at this link worked!
I first loaded up the hacked 1.2 file. Then I loaded the 1.2 config disc when I was prompted. I turned ON Region Free.
Then I loaded up the 1.3 disc and turned ON region free for Wii and GC again.
I then ran the 1.9b Update, which ran twice, and homer said "You are all nuts" right when I reset.
At that point, most of the back-ups started working. Except for Super Mario Galaxy.
I then did the 1.9g update, which also ran twice, and homer told me I am nuts again.
After that SMG worked. Some had reported all other back-ups stop working after a power ON/OFF, so I disconnected the wii from power and left it alone for 5 minutes. After I connected it back to power, everything still works.
So thank you RAFADAWN! You have made two little kids very very happy!

Sounds like you need to read up on how not to brick your wii. Here is the link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/523776
You say you have dup channels (Dup Channel = you get those when you play games out of your region which contain an update) but can you get into your wii settings? If you cannot get into your settings then you have semi bricked your wii.
What region is your wii? It's best to only play games within your region so that you don't semi/brick your wii. When you are DL games make sure they are the same region as your wii or you can DL and then run the out of region games through wii brick blocker which will remove the updates from the iso and then regionfrii to convert it to your region.
I am still learning about this myself. My advise is to slow down and read up so you don't render your wii useless.

1) Try to use the RECOVER disc and see if that resets/restart you Wiikey.
2) If that does not work, then let me know if at leat the Wii recognizes Update/Config discs burnt in GCOS mode (A Gamecube logo should show up in the disc channel)

Here are a Guide and few tips about the Recover disc thenks to YourBFF:
Quote:
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, I have two Wiis, and both had a different experience when recovering. I will post what I did, but technically, a lot of credit goes to the forum for my second recovery, since I was searching for remedies from this forum. (credits to partriv in this thread for that one)
Just a little fun fact for confused people: Why doesn't the Wii make sounds when recovering? Well, recall that the original file was not that big. The Wii read the recovery disc in a few seconds, and looked for a video to play in the Disc Channel. The Wii was "tricked" into thinking that there was a file to display in the Channel and subsequently flashed the Wiikey.
Anyway, if people still have troubles after this, I will try testing for different methods before telling you to buy a new Wiikey (lol). And just post in this thread, don't PM.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Some things you will obviously need before attempting:
Wiikey 1.9b Recovery Disc (Padded or Unpadded)
Wiikey 1.9g Update Disc/Wiikey 1.9s Update Disc (Padded)
I will use 1.9b and 1.9g/1.9s to refer to these discs, respectively.
Also, if neither options are working, please replace your 1.9b recovery with a padded version if you're using an unpadded version, and vice-versa. When burning another recovery disc, try using a different burn speed. I tried 4x and 2x for my padded and unpadded, respectively.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Option A
1) Unplug the Wii and plug it back in. (I like to start from a clean slate with a red LED)
2) Turn on Wii. Doesn't matter if theres a disc inside or not. If there is a disc, eject it. If there isn't, press eject anyway.
3) Insert 1.9b in the Wii. Let it stop spinning, and press A.
4) Wait at the menu until black screen pops up. If you want, give it 5 or 6 minutes. Proceed to next step after 8 minutes if the screen doesn't pop up.
5) Press the Reset button
6) Eject the 1.9b after it stops spinning.
7) Turn off Wii until Yellow Light and repeat Step 2-6 one more time. Flashing is a tedious task that doesn't always work. Give it one more go. At this point, you may or may not see a GC Logo in the Channel Menu.
8) Insert a backup. If it works, hooray! You may or may not want to update to 1.9g/1.9s at this point. If it didn't work, Option B.
Option B
1) Unplug the Wii and plug it back in. (Again, clean slate with a red LED)
2) Turn on Wii. Yep, disc inside or not, press eject anyway.
3) Insert 1.9b in the Wii. Let it stop spinning, and press A.
4) Wait at the menu for 3 minutes. If you want, give it 5 or 6 minutes.
5) Press the Reset button
6) Eject the 1.9b after it stops spinning.
7) Turn off Wii until Yellow Light, and repeat steps 2-6. Tedious, tedious, tedious.
8) Insert 1.9g/1.9s. Let's hope for a GC Logo! YES!? YAY NEXT STEP!
9) Update as normal. I think you'd know what to do from here.
I wish everyone a Good Luck when recovering.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW, I forgot to mention what media I was using.
For Option A, the padded 1.9b Recov was burned on a Memorex DVD-R @ 4x.
For Option B, the unpadded 1.9b Recov was burned on a Fujifilm DVD-R @ 2x. (because I ran out of Memorex)
The 1.9g/1.9s updates were burned on a Fujifilm DVD-R @ 4x. (no more Memorex)
from these two observations, I think a higher quality media will result in a better chance of success in my Option A, and a lower quality media will have to make do with my Option B. Also, a more-recently bought Wii will have a better chance of success in Option A, and a launch Wii will have to do an Option B.
Again, this is based on my two observations and might not be applicable at all, but I thought I'd throw it out there so people might get a better understanding. and of course, there might be way more variables, but these are just my observations on my two Wiis.

Hi Rafadawn,
first of all thanks for the instructions on the first page. Excellent stuff!!! Got my SMG (original) working by first updating my Wiikey to 1.9g beta (Imation DVD-R 2*burned) and then my firmware from 3.0E to 3.1E, worked a treat!! Then I let the disc update when it started up and everything runs smooth! No problems with any backups or originals!
I got a WiiFit question though.
I am still running 3.1E firmware and have the Wiikey on 1.9g beta which is doing nicely for me so far. My girlfriend bought a WiiFit PAL (so same region) though, which now asks me to run an update when starting up.
Do I need to update either my Wii firmware or Wiikey to anything higher than 3.1E and/or 1.9g beta before running the WiiFit update? If yes, what order should I do this in?
Saw the following post in your "Firmware issues and Resolutons" section and am hoping I can simply go ahead and let the WiiFit update run. Any thoughts?
>Update 3.1
>GAME: Super Mario Galaxy US/PAL and WiiFit JAP
>NOTES:Wiikey owners must use the 1.9g update for their chip and the >correct region of SMG and WiiFit
Thanks

Wiifit has been reported working with Wiikey 1.9g at 3.2E.
So you would at least need to update your Wii at 3.2E.
As for the order of the updates, it works either way. 3.2 and then 1.9s, or 1.9s and then 3.2 both work well.

Hey guys! I know you are sick and tired of these posts, but I really do need your help...
My situation is as follows (I'll brake it down into sections):
1. My Wii is NTSC with an original Wiikey.
2. Semi bricked my wii with SSBM-Jap.
3. Last update to the system was done with SSBM-USA.
4. Still semi bricked.
5. Upgraded Wiikey firmware from 1.9g to 1.9s (NTSC of course).
6. 1.4 config disc - NTSC won't run, wii doesn't even recognize it.
7. 1.4 config disc - PAL however does run!
8. Turned region free ON and firmware updates block - OFF using 1.4 config disc - PAL (NTSC isn't recognised).
9. 1.4 config disc - NTSC still isn't detected by wii!
10. Mario Kart - NTSC doesn't run an update but plays perfectly.
11. Okami - NTSC doesn't run an update when inserted, does show up on the wii menu but as soon as I try to run it the screen goes black and the wii freezes.
So:
1. Does anyone have any idea why my wii won't recognize the 1.4 NTSC config disc?
2. Why doesn't any game run an update?
Awaiting your help fellas!

Hi guys
First post in this informative forum so pls be easy on me!
I have NTSC wii console with wiikey chip on board. Recently the grand parents send the kids the wii fit but they lived in Europe & did not realise that wii fit sold there is PAL not NTSC.
Anyway i realised that it may not work and before i brick my console i must do some search, fortunately found out that Freeloader (NTSC) will do the trick & kids can enjoy the wii fit from EU.
Unfortunately i left the wii fit PAL disk next to the console and my 9 year old put the PAL disk inside the console and managed to semi-brick the NTSC console :(
Anyway after reading this post i realised that semi-bricked console this can be un-bricked by the newer version of the firmware, i just need to know
1. How/where i can find what version of the firmware was on the PAL wii fit?
I am hoping that the PAL fit was not using the latest firmware cos if it did then i will have to have semi-bricked console for a while and more importantly the grand parents will feel bad when they find out that the kids cannot play the wii fit!
I would appreciate any little help!
Cheers

Hi rafadawn,
I got another question for the expert. I ran the 1.9s PAL Wiikey update. Everything works fine, also backup games without the need of the config disc for region override etc.
However, when I go online to do the firmware update from 3.1E to "hopefully" 3.2E I get a message on screen stating "If your Wii has unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause unoperability of your Wii." and then an "I accept" button. Obviously I am a bit reluctant with running the firmware update now.
Did you ever come accross this and know whether it can cause problems?
Thanks
Schisser
P.S.: Used filechop to get the iso for 1.9s Wiikey update to proper size, then Nero7 to "burn image" with x4 speed onto a Verbatim DVD-Rx16. I always use either Imation or Verbatim DVD-R to burn my WiiKey updates or config discs and the first disc always works. Never had to burn a second disc. Rafadawn, thanks for the instructions on that!

That has been the standard Disclaimer since the SMG debacle.
3.2 is fully compatible with the Wiikey

When the Wiikey has problems running Wii backups, usually
we have three options to try:
1) Use GCOS discs. You should see the Gamecube icon in the disc channel.
2) If you can't run GCOS discs, in addition to the Wii backups, then try the Recover disc.
3) If that does not produce any results then you chip has a physical problem (broken, bad soldering, etc...)
You need to be persisten at each step ... sometimes it might take up to 20 tries to have a disc run ... however if you try several times and still no results, then you might have a dead chip.

Welcome to our Forum!
Most likely it will not work, but the only thing you may try right now is Mario Kart.
Just to keep things organized, there is a specific thread in this forum for Bricking problems. You might want to post there.
Ciao!

How about we postpone the HOW an WHY questions and try to fix that?
Let's start by using the Recover disc ... instructions are posted a few posts above yours.
