Hello There!

Hi I hope you don't mind me messagin you?

I am having problems with my Pal Wii(Wiikey) and wondered if you could help me?

I have recently update to 1.9s and my wii was working fine. I went to use it yesterday and it no backups seem to work. Originals are fine. Recovery Disk doesn't seem to work. I am really struggling as to what to do.

I have heard of various things such as Padded, unpadded etc not sure what to do. It seems like I am on firmware 3.1E

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

I am a bit too slow to understand !So sorry!I am really new to this update of Wiikey.
on the 1st page of this thread you will see 3 different downloads for 1.9s update's , you want to download the 1.9sJ(jap) then the 1.9 configure download also Jap.
the 3x disk speed is adjusted when you load the config disk after you have done the update as explained in earlier post,
try burning these disk's and try it, it will make sense when you see it on your screen, id also read page one of this thread from top to bottom, to gain a better understanding of what has to be done, there's 100's of post's on this thread just like yours and the've all been answered by some of the smart cookies on this site. including mine when i had problems at the start, so you are not alone.
Hope you get it sorted m8.

Hi.
I had a similer problem after the 1.9g update, although i could not play anything at all, what i done was ran the firmware update from the wii itself thru the internet connection to 3.2e and it cleared the fault, ran the 1.9g update again and all worked fine the only thing i done different was to turn region over ride on.

its also possible that you may have a bad connection, try testing the connection at the wiikey with a multi-meter on contiunity tester to the IC pins.

good luck

Hi,

I'm about to install my Wiikey on a US Wii, and would like to confirm that the following is the best way of going about things:

1. First upgrade the Wii firmware online (should do 3.1 automatically? Or whatever the latest number is?)

2. Second, install the Wiikey.

3. Third, run the Wiikey 1.9s update via DVD (padded to 1.35 GB or so)

4. Run the Wiikey Config disc via DVD (padded to 1.35 GB or so). The version I downloaded is padded and listed as version 1.4 (though I assume this is the same thing as 1.9 as far as the Config disc goes - correct me if I am wrong).

5. Test backup games and play away.

I'm interested in all the Wii backups, new and old (from Twilight Princess to Mario Galaxy to Mario Kart and Smash Bros), Gamecube games (mostly actual copies, though backups would also be nice), and possibly homebrew stuff. So I assume this will all work fine?

Please, if someone could confirm that the ABOVE process is correct, I'd really appreciate it. If someone does, I'll go ahead and begin. I just don't want to do it in the wrong order or brick it or anything.

Also, can I use DVD+Rs for the setup and config stuff? Most sites seem to say no, but my friend says he's been using DVD+Rs for his backups and they work fine.

Thanks.

heres wat i did:

1) install chip
2) update wiikey firmware
3) update wii firmware via internet or games
4) play

for the dvd+r -r thing, it doesnt really matter as long as your wii reads it.

Last night I got the 1.9G version loaded without a gamecube controller.

Do I need to be worried that that is the Beta version, even though it appears to be working correctly?

I have never went into set the Region Free or DVD Speed, with what disc do I do this? And is it that important? Everything I have is now working, so is it essential to do this.

Thanks in advance.

Please help.

I've installed my wiikey, and burned Wiikey Firmware 1.9s to a DVD, but when I pop it in, I get an "Unable to read the disc" error.

I've tested a Gamecube game, Wii Sports, and Wii Zelda, and they all run fine. I cannot read burned games.

I've burned a 1.35 gb padded 1.9s update to an Ativa DVD-R at 3x speed.

I've also tried it without padding, at 2x speed.

What am I doing wrong? I'm lead to believe the hardware install was fine, as the legitimate Gamecube and Wii games are running fine.

Is there any reason I can't install the 1.9s update right from the get-go, or do I need to install an older update first?

As I understand, I'm supposed to pop in the DVD and go to the games menu, but it's here where I get the "Unable to read the disc" error.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, I've determined my Wii has firmware 3.1U. If I understand it, this faq suggests that I need to use a GCOS v1.3 config disc first, before I can update the Wiikey firmware.

So I burned a GCOS v1.3 config disc (padded to 1.35 GB) with ImgBurn, at 2x speed, but I still get the "Unable to read the disc" error.

Any other ideas?

I have an interesting issue with my wii/wiikey
I installed it awhile ago and everything worked great. I had updated it to 1.9s and my PAL wii was 3.2E. Then i burnt ssbb to a DL with imageburn. I burnt the american Wiizard version and used the convert to pal ppf patch which i found on the internet and burnt it with imageburn at 2x speed. It worked fine and i pllayed for hours. Then it started to slow down, like REALLY SLOOOW. and all the movies were laggy. I figured it must be overheating so i switched it off and left it for 15 mins. Came back and it was STILL SLOW so i turned of my wii while playing. I also noticed while playing that the wii had a real hardtime reading it. After i turned off the wii i put the game back in and it saw it but i then got the Turn of your wii and consult the manual error. NOW my wii won't read any backups or originals. The originals come up in the disk menu but when i start them they boot to a black screen. Does anyone know what i could do or have had the same issue?

WAIT!!!!
nevermind turns out my case was on to tight :P

Wait, Wut

THats great, its possible you have a bad copy of mario kart, you said you had bought it???, if all other games work then there is no reason for that one not to work, it will prob ask to update before you play but as long as your wiikey is at 1.9s just accept it and away you go.

You should be able to play older back ups with out the update just to prove that the wiikey is working, updates were to plat from SMG onwards.

it could be any number of things,
your wiikey could be faulty/ bad instalation (check connections)
the drive may not like the media you are using (Try different disks)
bad burner, (use different burner)
just a case of illimination to find the cause

no it was the Beta version that i used and it was ok, though i updated soon after with 1.9s, id update with that before you play mario kart

to adjust settings use th configure disk's, lowereing the speed just lowers the risk of read errors, reads back ups better,

Hey, guys!

I have the following problem:

A while ago I semi-bricked my 1.9s-flashed Wii. Having recently purchased Wii Fit and knowing that it contains a System Update on the disk (it states so in the instruction manual), I was hoping I would be able to unbrick my Wii with a proper American Firmware v. 3.2. It seems, however, that the GCOS 1.4 disk I have does not really save the changes to the Wiikey chip and every time I turn off the automatic update protection it resets to being turned on.

So I tried a few things. Tried re-flashing with 1.9b/g - no change, problem remains. Updated back to 1.9s using a newly-downloaded Firmware update and newly-downloaded WiiKey GCOS Disk 1.4. Now the problem is such that the GCOS disk reports that my update protection is turned off, does not seem to save changes to tat if I switch the update protection to "ON" (does not save changes in other options either). No luck.

Mind you, my WiiFit, as well as backups still boot (with some intermittent disk read errors which is nothing unique to a modchipped Wii, I hear). My only and most upsetting issue is that my Wii's calendar is incorrectly set and I cxan not update the firmware over the internet or through a WiiFit disk.

Have any of you encountered a similar problem and/or, perhaps, found a solution to this annoying issue?

All help is greatly appreciated!

Sorry Tellos, the only solution to a semi-bricked Wii is updating with a game disc. As you discovered the Wii Fit update does not actually update the Wii's firmware (it's probably just a minor update to allow the Wii to communicate with the balance board.

As for when a new Wii system update will be issued with a game is anybody's guess. I'm afraid you will just need to keep your eyes peeled for information on this or other Wii forums.

Wiikey config disc - When you boot the config disc it will NOT show you the actual settings. As the Wiikey works in stealth mode it is not possible for the config disc to read the current settings from the chip.

If you have made changes to the settings you can rest assured that the changes HAVE been made even if the config disc says different.

Grab the duplicate channel with A+B and move it out of sight, then wait for a new disc update.

Well I read about the wiikey and yet am still having problems. My main problem is the #001 error in Brawl. I updated the wiikey to 1.9s and when I run the game the error still appears. I accidentally updated the wii to the firmware that came with Brawl before installing the 1.9s update. Also whenever I put in the 1.9s config disc my wii just reboots.
I was wondering what is wrong.
