@cincyrob,
I've burned a few of the 8X DVD-R's and they are pretty good but I don't think that I've used any of the 4X DVD-R's. The ones to ask about the Verb's would be Mort81 or creaky. They burn a lot of Verb's if I remember right and should be able to give you a definitive answer. :)
I say for that price try the dang things out and if they don't work out use them as givaways. ;-P OR you could send some to your friends. hehehe. NOT me tho I don't have the ability to print to discs yet. To poor right now to afford a printer (well another one that is...:))
@rcm999,
What (Who) do you consider to be the big 4???

@CincyRob,
I've used the 4X Verbs, the ones in the movie packaging and they are very good, however have not used the printable variety, would say give them a shot.

i just replied to cincyrob about this. i've added part of the reply here in case it helps anyone else; if nothing else see the bit about sharpies at the end of my reply LOL
Quote: Looks like the 4x -R Verbs come in either MCC 01RG20 or TYG01 MID codes, either are very good -
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dv...h+or+List+Media
edit- now i think about it i may well have used MCC 01RG20 in the past, but what i do know is they wouldn't have been printables. At home i've only ever used all of 50 printables and they were Ritek G05's, at work i use tons of 16x printable verbs but not for printing on, my colleaugue orders only printables because he likes writing on them with...wait for it...sharpies!. And we use them only in Linux with the burning program 'k3b'. Anyways, being as they're 4x they must be old stock so i take it they're going for a bargain price
..now i've seen the price, cor, $29 for 100 discs. do you lot in the States really pay such high prices for media (guess it's because they're printables then?). The cheapest discs i buy (a lot of too!) are Maxell 16x +R (RICOHJPNR03) - these are awesome discs, at £16 for 100, my 'Verbatim Taiyo Yudens' aren't much more expensive, but as i say i don't buy printables so i'm assuming they're a tad more expensive than non-printables..

just reply'd back to ya creaky..lol
id say they are that price casue they are printables. i did just look at some 8x-r TY shiney silver and for 100ct of them shipped was $34, and the 8x+r TY's for 100 of them are $43 shipped..thats 43 cents a disc that is a little high priced. that is at SMS.com
what kills these prices is the shipping.. it says free shipping but they just raise the price of the disc.
i have a couple hundred verbs and only 30 or so TY's left i did just order some TYs a few days ago but havent gotten them yet.. need to get some more..
why is it online the -r media is way less than the +r media? when at the B & M's around town the -/+ is the same price

i don't pay attention to any differences in price between -R and +R myself so can't comment on that, though i can plug my favourite Verbatim Taiyo discs while i'm here -
Verbatim Taiyo Yuden (16x +R) (YUDEN000T03) -
http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=1523
Verbatim Taiyo Yuden (16x -R) (TYG03) -
http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=1217
edit- it seems in this example both varities are £5.29 for 25. Bargain (especially for ripoff Britain), and you won't find prices like that in any Brick & Mortar store. I haven't bought any Verb TY for a very long time since i panic-bought so many TYG02 way back and i've been loving the Maxell RICOHJPNR03's but it was worth checking out the latest prices

Agreed RE edit ^^
Svp is where I buy all my disks. I haven't bought any in a while, as it was more of a must have thing when I last bought them, and bought a lot ;-)
Need to order again soon though, so just hope creaky doesn't need any more before then :P

you're safe Ripper, i only buy RICOHJPNR03 these days, it'll probably be a long while before i have to buy any more Verb TY...
..though you know me, at some point it'd be rude not to (even if i don't need any) :)

Indeed, you can never have too many Verb TYs ;-)
Funny you should mention the RICOHJPN, as I still have a few RICHOJPNR01s lieing around from when I first started burning.. yeah, 4x media! :D

we have a large shipping charge too, something like almost £5 but to offset that we deliberately buy enough stuff to absorb the shipping charge, still way cheaper than buying locally. Winds me up as there's 2 PC World's within walking distance but hey, their choices are too limited as well as the stupidly high price so no loss really.
For non-media purchases i use Amazon a lot as most stuff i buy is free shipping

cincyrob- I would agree with you that it's silly that Buying media online That DVD+R is more expensive ! when as you say you can buy DVD+R or DVD-R for the same price at any of the regular Brick & mortar stores ! The only thing I can see & I can't swear that it's true is I remember reading somewhere that DVD+R media has to be Certified ( Meet certain minimum standards ) to be sold as DVD+R media and DVD-R does not ! Like VHS Tape ( VHS PHOOEY !!!!!!!!!!!!) In order to carry the VHS logo The Tape has to meet certain ,minimum technical standards ! If true That would be an extra step not required for DVD-R so that could possibly account for the price difference ? Also most manufacturers & Oem's Make both But There is more Companies making DVD-R Both Good & Bad quality so that also could account for the lowwer price on DVD-R ? me I'll use both DVD-R & DVD+R I prefer the DVD+R if I can get it but If the price is right I'll go DVD-R ! I actually Bought Some 4x Verbatims along time ago ( Silver shiny like the Thermal taiyo's I believe they are still buried in my leaning Tower of Dvd Spindles somewhere ? I think they are DVD-R but i would have to check to be sure ? If yours are made in singapore They are Old stock ! the Singapore Plant is strictly doing DVD+R DL media only Or DL media only as far as I know ! I don't think you'd go wrong with verbatim but price wise you might do better in taiyo yudens though maybe not in printables ! face it For Printables , DVD+R DL or Lightscribe media your gonna pay extra ! Me I done a few Lightscribe But I mainly do Sharpie but to each his or her own I suppose ? Good luck with Making Up YOUR MIND !!!! & making your Children Mind LOL!!!! See ya around the old Dumpsteroo ! later!!!

@creaky,
I see that you are back to posting some, I take it your holiday is over for now. ;-)
Thanks for responding to cincyrob's Q's about the 4X DVD-R Verb's. ;-)
You know it's not fair that you talk about or mention the Verb TY's that you get your hands on over there. I've been hoping that they would make their way over to the States but I guess not. :-( Where are you getting those Ricoh's? I haven't tried those yet and I refuse to buy Memorex unless I can get the right ID code for sure. I've purchased some questionable media lately but it's done fairly well and they're giveaways anyway. ;-)

no problem..
i get the RICOHJPNR03 here - http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=2004
..had been using them for ages before someone pointed out that they also come in other MID codes - CMC MAG.M01, PHILIPS.C16 & MAXELL..003
i didn't know this until recently but didn't know/aren't bothered as svp are specifically selling the RICOHJPNR03. If they sold the Maxell's with a lucky dip of MID codes (as they do with a lot of media, and not a problem as they are up front & specific about MID codes on each media advert on the website) then i wouldn't buy them.

I can't comment on the verbatim dvd-r's as I am strictly a DVD+R user, almost exclusively verbatim. the last time I used any dvd-r's they were ritek G04's and I wasn't impressed. +r's ever since for me.
Quote: dont think i would even try to buy media from amazon.com for some reason i look at them like buying media from e-bay
I've never had any problems with the 8x verbatim DVD+R hub printable's I got through amazon.com. always MCC003's. at one point that was the only place I would buy them from because they always had the best price on the hub printables.
doubt I would risk buying TY's from amazon.com though since there is a much greater chance of TY's being faked. better off staying with the faithful SMS, or rima.com for TY's imo.

alot of good info going around today. dont get any better than this.
might just be dumb logic on my part but i think i will wait till after easter and see what goes on sale. for some reason i fell there will be a good sale on media comeing up soon, as much as i want to buy some 8 or 16x TY printables right now while they are in stock something telling me to wait.just did a inventory check on my hub printable TY's 8x+r. only 13 of them left. and 12 total 8x+r non printable TY(including the presents from a friend) so i am low on them, but i have more verbs than i can shake a stick at

Quote: why is it online the -r media is way less than the +r media? when at the B & M's around town the -/+ is the same price
i voiced my opinion on this many times. i think they football the DVD dash R media online (not making much or little profit on it) and they make up for it (selling it for a higher price and making a profit on it) on the DVD plus R media that people prefer. kinda like when you go to the grocery store alot of the sale items are sold at cost to get you in there hoping you will pickup other items that they can make a profit on. so the same applies to the online superstores selling media/ink/drives etc.

aabbccdd- that's pretty logical * I could see that making sense But why would affect DVD media bought in Bulk /Unbranded surfaces -Disc label area ? Like taiyo Yudens /Verbatims & other brands But The prices are the same for either Format on Reatil media ? With whoever's Logo on the disc & or packaging ? For Myself If I can get a Good deal on Good media online & The shipping does'nt KYBosh ! the deal ? I'll order From SMS, Meritline, Newegg ect... ! But If a local Brick & mortar has equally good media Onsale Like Verbatims , Sony MIJ's Ect... Then I'll Follow my wallet there !{ price & tax Not putting a wrench in the works on that deal } ? of course ! But I suppose It's whatver the particular person/ member needs or wants to use that's important ? Cheers

Alright, i just got my 50 TYG02's from meritline, and 3 out of 3 burned have been coasters. I'm pissed. I guess I'll try to get a refund... The media code on them is GG007031 (bad batch?)

I burned them on IMGburn at 8x with a new LG GSA-2166D, but this was at someone else's house. I have a mac with a Memorex 32023288 burner (is that bad?)... I have been burning my dvd's with the disk utility that my computer came with, should I be using a different program instead (ie roxio toast)?
