Just wanted to say, "What's up, Doc?" LOL I also wanted to give a thumbs up for the Pioneer 112. It's an excellent drive! 109, 112.... Guess I'll get another when they get to 115...

Ok let's get to looking at a TY scan. I had to post another one for everyone to see. If these are bothering people just let me know and I'll stop it in this thread. :)

8X DVD+R Sony (YUDEN000-T02-00) scanned with a Lite-On LH-18A1P and received this result. YEAH!!!

Posting this for all to see and know that TY not only makes great media but the LH-18A1P burns and scans like a champ. :-) I think that most that visit the docTY thread (on a regular basis) know about TY quality but here's proof with a scan in pretty colors. hehehe.

Here is the best description that I could give. You should see some "holographic" looking print on the bottom of the disc, burn side that has similar letters and numbers to these. This comes from docTY himself so this should give you an idea of what you got. :)

Looking at what I've colored red should indicate that you have genuine stuff. And if you got them from SMS.com I'm 99.999% sure you got the real deal. :)

I wouldn't even "sweat" looking too hard for the 16X +R printable TY's. I use 8X +R TY hub printables 95% of the time. Try a couple of burns on those at 12X, and see what you think (especially with the Pioneer 112). That's the speed you will probably want to burn the 16X TY's at if you found them anyway. Like I said, try it. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised....

hehehe.

@cincyrob,
He thinks you got the Pioneer DVR-112L. Bet you wish you did!! j/k my friend. lol. Your getting much better with that LH-18A1P aren't you buddy. I think you could try fast-burning that TY at 12X but you won't gain anything but speed. I'm trying more and more at higher speeds but I'm not convinced of anything except speed. NOT getting better quality but NOT that much lower most of the time either. The Pioneer WILL NOT burn over 12X on the TDK 003's and I haven't tried the YUDEN T02 or TYG03 yet but I will. :)

@teflonmyk,
cincyrob has the Lite-On LH-18A1P and I have the Pioneer DVR-112L. Actually I have both drives and like them very much. I've never had a Plextor but those perform very well form my friends that have them. :)

I see that you have the Pioneer DVR-112L. Have you updated the f/w to the BUFFALO version or did you stay with stock f/w? :) How do you like the Pioneer? It works well for me. :)

@pieman,
That's GREAT!! Your mate was nicer than I would have been. LOL. Good thing I didn't live in the UK, it would have been me going thru your dumpster. hehehe. I should have thought about a bad IDE controller since I went thru bad chipsets just a few months ago.

Out of curiosity what f/w are you using in each drive and are you getting good results now with playback and Nero scanning???

Again good thing that you went the extra mile to determine the problem. Now you've got 2 GOOD Pioneers, YEAH!!!

@cincyrob,
See there. hehehe. The Pioneer DVR-112 isn't like you first thought it was, poor pieman had another problem but figured it out.

@greensman....in the 112 is the buffalo f/w which now shows as a 112l, and the 111 has the standard pioneer f/w.All my scans using Nero are at about 95%, the errors peaking at about 8-10.Its a similar story on the lg4167a, the benq 1650 and the samsung sh-w163...not one drive really shines but i think ive got a dodgy supply of ty's.Theyre genuine allright, but knowing my luck a bad batch.Ive got some new stock on the way from two diff suppliers so hopefully ill get better results.However, only one of these drives is able to error scan in Nero....and thats the benq.My old pioneer 107/8/9 s would all work, but not the 111/112.Strange.And by the way. if you have AnyDVD installed and you use the Nero clean tool registery checker...you have to reinstall AnyDVD.Just thought id throw that in.Just makes me hate Nero even more!!

We are talking about burning TY's just in case you ask. hehehe.

@pieman,
Yeh I have the Buffalo 8.06 f/w for the DVR-112L as well. I like the f/w as it seems to create good burns and then the disc scans well with Nero scan. Of course playback is perfect as expected. :)

Link to possible firmware just in case you need it again for a fresh install. ;-)

Again glad that you figured out your problems and now have 2 good drives, sorry that you had to chunk the mobo but at least you have all things in good working order. :):)

When you get those TY's in give us a shot and maybe a little scan to see the results. ;-)

@greensman/cinyrob

Oops! My bad. I knew cincy was considering the 112 at one time. I love mine!!! Not a single problem! I only burn TY's, though (and the occasional Verb). I have my 112 crossflashed to the 112L with the Buffalo 8.06 as well. I also burn extensively with LiteOn 160P6S, LG 4163, BenQ 1640, and a Plextor 760... The Plextor is my ripping King!!! It also burns extremely well except for MCC004. I get OPC spikes on those when scanned, but no playback issues... I've retired a LiteOn 1693S and a Pioneer 109.

You guys are right. The only thing gained with 12X on TY +R is speed. I'm actually being "old school" and sticking with 8X myself. These days, as long as you are using the good stuff, in which, IMO, YUDENT-002 is the best, almost any burner will do!

EDIT: wanted to throw in this little tidbit... LOL

checking out the glossy white inkjet hub printables. I know they are TYG03s which aren't as good for my burner as the YUDEN000TO2s but what the hey! GLOSSY WHITE PRINTABLES! got to try them out.
