The Phillips 642 is a great player for the $...I have 5 of them...They will play anything...Divx...CD...all DVD formats...
Phillips has a newer upconverting player with HDMI that people are raving about as the replacement for the 642...also LG makes an all format (upconverting through HDMI only) player in the $100 range that lots of people are saying is the best for the $...

dont mentioned the mavs, man. what an upset.
the rocket are not counting much on them anyways.
at least we still have spurs which probably wont be
the suns anyways. it seems like the suns will win it all if they took care of the spurs.

Har-dee-dang-har-har!!
My wife only had to dial 911 once since I "can't" be a fan of both. (BIG D) Sorry no good so-in-so's. hehehe.
@herrick,
Since you didn't get back with me on the 4200 (J/K buddy) I pulled the trigger on a 3800 for $83 thru newegg.com. You're right no HIGH end cpu's left for the taking on a 939 platform. :(
@jene,
No one really "pushes" the DVD+R format it's just more widely excepted in more machines when booktyped to DVD-ROM. If I remember right the XBOX only excepts the DVD+R discs. Please don't quote me on that but that's what my feeble mind recalls. :) btw like binkie7 I uses a bunch of them DVD-R's. TY's and Verb's but mostly TYG02's and TYG03's and I also have a few of the TYG01's left. ;)
@MichaelP1,
AMD Opty user? Thanks for the headsup on the Philips DVD Player. Might be my next player of choice. I have the Sony NS55P and it does ok. :)
@cincyrob,

I use the 642's as my secondary players...They are not perfect by no means...however they play everything...My oldest 642 is about 3 years...no problems on any of them...
My biggest complaint about the 642 is No Disc Play Memory (the ability to eject disc and reinsert and restart at last position on disc) and slow Rew & FF...

Come on...you got to love how the Warriors played...those were some fun games to watch..:)
Just thank God...(with Blur Song 2 in back ground "Woo Hoo")
NO HEAT!!!
NO LAKERS!!!
and Robert Horry must Die!!!I will never forgive him...
I would like to see Warrior vs Pistons...In the Finals...wouldn't mind seeing Webber get a Ring...

@herrick,
J/K buddy. I know that you can find someone to sell it too. It's a good cpu. :)
ON the Sony DVD player, I like it, I just wish I would have gone for a little "more" in a player. Make sense. It plays just about anything you stick in it but there is the occasional disc that gives it fits. :)

I would pick them up on sale...usually around $29 to $39...
I like that...I do not have to do anything to play files that I download...They play DivX...AVI...WMA...and everything else I can throw at them...
And they play TY's without any problem's...Got to stay on topic..:)

I just recently picked up a Philips DVP5960, and I absolutely love it. The remote is simple and intuitive. The on-screen menus are nice, and it scans through media well. Also, it will play pretty much any media format and has a USB port to play off of a USB drive. It wasn't cheap ($80 at Target), but I got it because it was the best player they had, and I needed to use up a $25 gift card (I normally never shop there.). I'm sure other Philips players are great, too, but I really love this one!

i was thinking of starting to buy ty's exclusively but after i searched around for prices i saw valuelines and permiums
frankly i cant see paying 40-45 cents per disc even if it IS the best of the best, but i've read that the valuelines (25-30/disc) are really not all that good
at 45/disc i think i'd rather search around for sony mij/mit in retail stores than purchase bulk online
i NEVER spend more than 50/disc and usually never spend more than 25/disc
whats your opinion on this guys?
thanks~sickley

@Sickley,
You can have some re-assurance that the "value" line TY's are good. I've burned about 200 of them (TYG02 and TYG03) and the only coasters I got were my fault. Multitasking was the problem I had. :)
If you are in the states then SMS.com is your best bet and they sometimes offer the "premium" on sale as well. But don't be afraid of the "value" line. ;)
If you want to go with something else try Verbatim DVD+R 8X or 16X from an online dealer or at a B&M in your area. They produce great results and some people even get better results with the Verbs than the TY's. Of course it all depends on your system and how compatible it is with each media. Don't read more into that just take it like a grain of salt. :)

Well Ill give what little I know and have personally placed my hands on...First TY media is one of the best, Top 3 as far as Im concerned, and as for the Value line... they have been very profitable for me in terms of coasters- I have used hundreds and hundreds of them [ and sometimes they ship you the TYG03 which I love but normaly I get TYG02s] you cant go wrong with the value either!

I can't speak for the valueline TYs because I have yet to buy discs online. I use TYs(Sony 8X MIJ +R)and Verbatims 16Xs +Rs. I watch the Sunday sales and pounce when the price is right, usually about $.25-.30 each. Alas the Sony TYs are scarce, but I still have 400 of them and 250 of the Verbs. The 16X Sonys MIJ are NOT TYs.
I'm in the process of rebacking up some older(3yr) Memorex and have found that they are holding up just fine with no problems making a copy. I know that is blasphemous but it's a fact. LMAO
