You should be able to slot it back and gently clip it into place

my ps3 power and eject button ribbion cable is broken so for luck i had a ps2 for spares lying about there was a ribbion cable with 20-25 silver connections. I put the ps3 ribbion up aganist the ps2 ribbion cut with siscors which was very hard to do, cut it any way just to see if it would work put the ribbion in the ps3 power and eject slot switched it on it worked. Only thing the silver connectors are very fragile but may last a while it you cant get the right ps3 one

My bBuray drive is connected with a ribbon. The ribbon goes into a clip, but the top part of the clip which holds it down has come off. Is there any way i can fix that. I;ve tried putting tape , and it wont work

Please help, i really need it for the days to follow

Thankyou so much for your future input.

Had a customer bring me a system with this problem a couple weeks back. After some thought the solution I came up with was to cut a small piece of thin cardboard(the width of the cable, about an inch long) and after sliding the ribbon cable in I carefully slid the cardboard in above it, which put enough pressure on the cable to hold it in place.

yeah mine did this aswell but after close inspection only one side of the clip was broke and i was carefull enough to clip the un broke side in and then close it and kept pressure on it! it held so i put it back together and it reads my disk so hopefully it will last

How did you fix this PS3

Ok, I picked up a 40gb system this afternoon but it doesnt have the standard YLOD. This one instead immediately boots to a flashing red light. And when I say immediately I mean, the second you turn on the power switch on the back it beeps 3 times and starts flashing red, dont even have to push the power button on the front. (Which btw, seems to do nothing at all)

So far I have tried the standard ylod fix, and pulling the hard drive, bluray drive ect but no love. Im thinking it could possibly be the power supply but atm I dont have another to test with.

Any thoughts/experiences are appreciated!

The one I have is a 60gb. I have done the reflow with rosin flux on it, I have changed out the psu, hard drive, and bluray. Still no luck. There is no click on the psu when you turn it on. When you turn on the back switch it just starts beeping and flashing red.

Thanks for the help wilman. i put a piece of cardboard on the clip, applied pressure but no luck. I tried taping it down, and wa laa. Magic. Its working. P.S - Quite a bit of tape was added. And this is regular scotch tape. Is there any problem with having this in the ps3 ?

Glad to hear you had sucess with your machine! As for your scotch tape, some may argue that the adhesive on the tape is slightly conductive, but in reality it wont cause any problems. Personally tho scotch tape wouldnt be my first choice as it will wear out over time due to the heat emmited from the PS3, (Which will dry the tape and make it lose its stickyness) but again if you got it working more power to you!

Keep the thread updated on how your machine does.

My question is directed towards Gilksy & Wiiman primarily but I'd be grateful to anyone who knows their flux.

After successfully fixing the YLOD issue on my son's PS3 a couple of weeks ago, it damn well reared it's ugly head again. I have done a 2nd reflow and the PS3 is operational again. This time I kept the same temp (350c) on the heat gun but increased the time to about 45-50 secs on each component and it worked. We will see for how long this time.....

If it happens again I want to be prepared to do the flux treatment so I have tracked down an online store near me in Australia and was wondering which flux is right for the job. Below is a link to the product line that I think is right but I would love as many opinions as possible because I want to buy the right one. It should be "no clean" flux right?

Link below : -
http://okay.com.au/okayshop/index.php?cPath=35_255_647

I think the one I need is NC-275 but I'm not sure.....

Thanks for any help.
I took a look and I think this one would be a better option

http://okay.com.au/okayshop/product_info...roducts_id=3463

Im saying a better option as this one is rosin based (like what im using) and also states it does not have to be cleaned afterwards. Its also thicker (15% solids) Im also speculating (as ive never personally used it) that no-clean flux evaporates quite quickly and might not give you enough working time.

Wiiman
yes but rosin flux needs to be cleaned off after reflow!

myfluxing guide is now up!

Hi,

Great video guide Colin.

The flux you used is the following:

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searc...oduct&R=5086374

The following as also been suggested to me:

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searc...oduct&R=5086374

Any one have any ideas on which of the above "No Clean Flux" is the best? Or does anyone have any alternative suggestions for any other type of No Clean Flux?

Thanks in advance.

I have reflowed about 25-30 ps3's. The ones that don't come back to me are the ones that I reflow with rosin flux and heat the chips for 40-50 seconds. I also reflow 3 other chips besides the cpu, gpu and ram. Plus, afterward use a external rear cooler to keep them cool. Heat kills. Think if you where PC gaming the main thing you want to do is keep the bga's as cool as possible. The same goes for these games. They are computers now. Where I am it is over 100 deg. F every day.

I assume by you saying it wont even boot up you mean that you no longer get a red light when you turn the machine on. Its pretty rare for a reflow to completely kill a machine, but its pretty common to either break or install backwards the small ribbon cable connecting the power/eject buttons. Check that first and make sure its in good shape.

Ok, next question. Is your machine still following the standard YLOD sequence (green 1.5 sec, yellow .5 sec, 3 beep, flashing red) or is your machine now going directly to 3 beeps and flashing red?

It's the standard Green Yellow then continous red flashing.

I have read in a few places that if you get the flashing red light immediately it generally means a Power Supply problem..

Unfortunately I can't reference them now but I did read in at least two different forums someone who had the immediately flashing red lights and then after a week or so it wouldn't even light up after you flicked the switch to on.

Please take it with a grain of salt though, I haven't seen this problem myself yet.

Also thank you all for the great write ups on the YLOD. I've fixed two YLOD consoles so far, one failed again after a week but I'm going to try re-flowing it using the flux method instead of just the heat gun.

It seems so random, even after leaving a game like flower which is processing intensive on for an entire day the problem didn't reappear until the user was just watching a DVD..
