LMAO i did walk into that one.
not only did i wipe out all of svp's Verb TY, i see they got not more MCC004 either, hardly any decent Verbs of any sort left :O

@creaky: The MCC004s are the 16x Verbatim DVD+Rs, right? If that's the case, how do they compare to the MCC003s? I'm quite enamored with the MCC003s and would like to find something comparable if they are no longer making them.
Thanks!

while, i'm not creaky, i happen to love my MCC003s Verbatims too, i've had a bit more experience with the MCC003s than i have the MCC004s, and yes, you are right they are the 16x dvd+rs... :)
but, with any natural progression of media, since at least here in the U.S., the 16x DVD+R YUDEN000T03s are not available yet, i will have to say that the MCC004s at THIS POINT in time are the best 16x dvd+rs here in the States~ :)
i went out and bought a pack of the Sony 16x DVD+R MIJ (SONYD21) just to test them out on my setups, while they are decent, they don't compare to the MCC004s...burned @8x and higher...it's been so long since i've burned anything @4x that i don't even bother any more, it'd be a waste of my time... :)
so, that's MY opinion of the 16x DVD+R media right now...i have not and probably will not try the other brands with the Ritek or Prodisc flavors in the 16x DVD+R, so they might be pretty good for some people, but for me, i'll spend my money on what i believe and TRUST to be good quality media...and until the MIJ Maxell 16x dvd-r/dvd+r media is more readily available, and the YUDEN000T03 (16x DVD+R Taiyo Yudens) are available too; i'll stick and recommend sticking with the MCC004 verbatim 16x dvd+r~ :)

@tokijin
well, i dunno about "phasing out" all together, since the MCC003s CAN still be bought here in the States, they are admittedly "harder to find for a decent price," and locally you can often times get Verbatim 16x media for $15/50 pack when on sale; but many places still DO sell them~ :) locally, i've observed that many retail outlets that do have an ongoing flow of "newer optical media" are going for the 16x rated speed routes for all the various brands available~ :) whether this be fuji, sony, verbatim, memorex, etc...bestbuy, compusa, circuit city, staples, office depot, etc...all have stock of 16x rated media now filling their shelves~ :)
the MCC004s are very fine indeed, but for us that have been burning Verbatim for a long time now still find fond memories of the good ole' MCC003s...these were my first REAL DVD+R favorites before i started going crazy buying up TYs everywhere and getting the YUDEN00T02s for a good price, i've had great success with both the 8x and 16x DVD+R Verbatim MCC discs, but when it comes to DVD-R media, i've always relied on my trust TYs...whether it be TYG01/TYG02/TYG03, didn't really matter to me~ not saying the Verb MCC in the DVD-R are bad, i just prefer the TY DVD-R over them...i've used probably only a few hundred of the MCC02RG20/MCC03RG20 with good success, but scan quality wise, TYs bested them...
@jurgennop
yup! genuine 8x DVD-R TYG02s you got there~ :) the inner hub code gives it away every time for me~ with or without the dvdidentifier scan~ :) hell, someone could give me JUST the inner hub coding and i could tell them within seconds which rated TY and what format it is...LOL

sorry if this has been asked before...but do you know when 16x MIJ media will be TY's...i know the sony's that are 16x are not TY's...does it mean they wont be TY's in the future either? And what about Fuji and Maxell?

Not only can you still get the MCC003 Verbatim discs here in the 'States' but you can still get the MCC002 .. the Verbatim Digital Movie discs are still available, still 4x MCC002 and Best Buy on occasion has 25 packs of 'em on sale .. I use 'em for my set top recorders ...

@mord
actually, SOME/ALL of the 16x dvd-r ONLY MIJ Sony (with what i've read have the octagonal spacer) are in fact TYs (TYG03s to be precise) :) the same does NOT hold true for the 16x dvd+R, regardless of where it's made or with whichever spacer~ :)
TY has yet to release the YUDEN000T03s (16x dvd+r) here in the U.S., they WERE supposed to have been released here already (by now), but apparently something is holding them back...i don't know the specifics of it~
for Fuji, so far, from what i know, it seems only the MIT variety is usually found locally and you will get either ProdiscF02 or RitekF1 in the 16x dvd-r flavor~ :) and PhilipsC16 or ProdiscR05 in the 16x dvd+r flavors~
for Maxell, i'm actually personally waiting to try their MIJ Hitachi made media, i think it will be very good...MXLRG04 coding on the 16x dvd-r format and the Maxell003 coding on the 16x dvd+r (which by the way i HAVE NOT seen yet...i'm guessing on the MID coding as a natural progression from the MIJ 4x & 8x dvd+r of Maxell001 & Maxell002 respectively) so far all i've seen locally for me at least, is the MIT spindles with either the ProdiscF02 or RitekF1 coding (identical to the Fuji's MIT) in the 16x dvd-r format and the dreaded CMCMAGM01 and/or the PHILIPSC16 in the 16x dvd+r format~ :) (kinda scary, i wouldn't PERSONALLY risk buying the MIT Maxell 16x dvd+r format with those 2 manufacturers in there)
so there ya have it, i haven't heard of any IMMEDIATE plans by Taiyo Yuden to supply Sony, Fuji, or Maxell with the YUDEN000T03 in the 16x dvd+r format, this could well change in the next few months, or it may not...only time will tell~ :)
at least for CURRENT 16x media on those various brands, you heard it 1st here from yours truly~ :)
docTY~
edited for gurnard: hi buddy, didja like my response in that thread regarding digitalfaq?
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/327795
LOL...now i have even LESS respect for that site after hearing IHoe's email response from "K" :) yeah, i was responding to a guy that linked the YUDEN000T03s in another thread from svp, i can only be envious of what you and creaky have available over there....grrrrrrrr...damn U.S. and their slow media releases~! :) have a good one my friend, good seeing ya pop in now and then...happy lurkin...

you might enjoy reading the little "battle" of words found in here too

or, you may think it's just worthless banter...LOL, i stand up for the members of AfterDawn, big and small alike; as i could care less what digitalfaq's owner/admin has to say...TDK as first class media? meaning their OWN manufactured stuff? gimme a break, i know even YOU will agree with me there...

@gurnard
arrogance has never won over any "intellectual" followers in the past, yes, the dumb sheep may follow someone who is so arrogant in their ways, but smart "thinking" folks are not persuaded by such displays of false superiority~ :)
but don't get arrogance confused with confidence, make no mistake, i possess the latter, not the former~~ :)
the true distinction between the two is when you start belittling people/others because you believe you are superior (arrogance+ lil bit of stubborness too), confidence, on the other hand, is having the power to pursuade others to join your cause based on factual evidence and supporting reason to proclaim such things, without resorting to "name-calling" and unsolicited badgering of others to make you "feel" superior... you my friend, are in the same figurative boat as me, despite being separated by sea...have a good one
