How To Properly Identify Rebranded Taiyo Yuden Media (via the packaging):

Sony

8x -R = MIJ + White Octagonal Spacer
8x +R = MIJ + White Round or White Octagonal Spacer

16x -R = MIJ + White Octagonal Spacer
16x +R = Yet To Be Found

Fuji

8x -R = MIJ + That's Cakebox or Color Disk Tower
8x +R = MIJ + Standard Cakebox or Color Disk Tower

16x -R = Yet To Be Found
16x +R = Yet To Be Found

TDK

8x -R = MIJ + That's Cakebox
8x +R = MIJ + Standard Cakebox

16x -R = Yet To Be Found
16x +R = Yet To Be Found

Any others?

For the MIJ Sony's that holds true for the newer 8x discs in both formats. However, older batches of Sony-branded TYG02/Yuden000T02 will still have the circular spacer. With those two, you can't be 100% sure from the spacer, you need to check the label to see where they were made.

damn,it has been quiet on this thread the last couple of days...
No more scans,etc...
Anyway,i did as catfreak told me,and these are the results.
The pics are in the order i did them.
The first 2 are with SB ON,WOPC off,burned at 8x

notice the worse scan is the second...

and these are the last 2 with SB on,WOPC on,burned at 8x

real shame about the last scan with the PIF's around 1,25,would have been great otherwise.

So... what do you think,which settings should i keep? SB on and WOPC on is what i think...
thx

Do you mean at meritline? I went on SMS and did not see any TYG01 DVD-R and 4x speed. They changed it to TYG02. Just checking if you have your store right, dont want you to buy the wrong thing if you want TYG01.

I just got my order of TY's -R from supermedia, and they code out as TYGO2. I do not believe supermedia has anymore GO1's. My last two orders have been the 8x and they come out flawless as always.

hi all, been away a few days, thought i'd pop in to see what's been going on... :)

@jurgennop

those are fairly decent scans, but just know that the Benq 1650 (which i have also) highly favors the DVD+R format (namely the YUDEN000T02- 8x and the YUDEN000T03- 16x and MCC003- 8x and MCC004- 16x) :)

i will be posting some scans of mine within the week here in this thread as well as the "benq hall of fame" thread that my buddy catfreak started...once i get everything organized...

as to changing anything, things seem ok with your current settings + plus burn speed...i consistently get "better" quality scores with DVD+R format as i mentioned, but those are "on par" with my DVD-R burns on the benq 1650 :)

@mord

there is a VERY VERY slim possibility that you will EVER get the TYG01s (4x dvd-r) shiny silvers from ANY online retailer these days, the supply was pretty much exhausted LONG AGO...most likely will be receiving either the TYG02s or the TYG03s from this point forward...it's really too bad since the TYG01s were VERY solid for me, i still have a few hundred left from last year~ :)

@all

cheers everyone, finally DONE rebuilding my new AMD rig~ :) and 'tweaking' it a bit, gonna be burning quite a bit come tuesday when i make my local dvd purchases on the newer releases (been slacking lately, haven't been keeping up with the "must haves" vs. the "box office bombs") :)

Sup Doc, haven't seen ya round in a bit. I know some people in desperate need of an emergency retardonomy, I've sent them your way lol. Saw some MIJ Sony TY's on sale at Staples last week for $15! My staples blows, this is the first time I've ever seen them on sale. I had some money this week, so I went and checked em out. Being the Milwaukee's best capital of FL, they still had two 50 spindles of TYG03, behind a stack of high quality HP *cough* discs. I bought the last two, cost me $32 total, so pretty happy about that. I've never burned any TYG03, though I remember you saying that you didn't care for them too much, or at least that they weren't great. Why is that? Thanks for the info. The scars from my labodomy have healed up well, my train of though just gets broken sometimes.... HP discs... CMC Mag ID.... good.... on sale..... must go..... Anyway Cheers!

hiya buddy, good to see you keeping up with this thread...as to your question here

it's just a PERSONAL thing, also, my TYG03s were of the FIRST batch when they first arrived on the scene, being the TY guinea pig that i am, i am guessing that during that time, firmware tables were NOT very accomodating with such new/faster rated speed media~ :) so, my less than perfect success with them...i'm sure now with the quality drives available now, also updated firmware to handle the 16x media, i'm SURE you will have success with them present day~ :P

i'm also almost 100% sure that the quality control after TY's earliest "batch" of TYG03s has much improved...when they are so new to the market, naturally, there will be much needed improvement in the future batches, i happen to have used and tried the "old stuff" :) got a "newer" batch recently directly from TY, seeing as i just got my Benq 1650 last month, as mentioned before the Benq's "prefer" the DVD+R format, but i figured why not give a few TYG03s a spin to see if my SolidBurn will kick in and "learn these" to be up to par with my other formats~ :) if they don't get much better (ie. 16x DVD-R TYG03s), then i will use the remaining DVD-R media that i have solely on my Liteon/Sony/Pioneer drives...

p.s. i still do buy DVD-R format sometimes because of 2 picky Toshiba standalone players my wife and parent's have that will NOT play DVD+R booktyped to dvd-rom (MCC003/MCC004/YUDEN000T02/YUDEN000T03) that i try them with...weird, i know, but it's how things are...LOL

Good to See ya round Doc. Thanks for the info. I finally got sick of using average media for DVD Movie backups. The playback on the TYG02's is very good. Actually, I thought the TYG03's were 02's when I bought them. I knew they were TY's, Octogonal Spacer and MIJ on the label. 100 for $31 is the cheapest I've ever gotten TY's. I frequently over pay for my Yuden000T02's, often over .50 cents a disc. That's the cheapest I can find them locally, outside of Sam's Club, where I don't have a membership. I may try them out for the PS2, who knows, primarily I'll probably use them for movie backups. Still have yet to try the Verb 8x DVD+R's. I backed up some PS2 games onto Verb's for my friend, and their playback is excellent. Cheers!

@aabbccdd

noticed you got the same mobo as me in ur sig~ :) i've been using that same ASUS for about a month now, in MY humble opinion, that model number is THE PREMIUM motherboard at this present time in terms of ASUS offerings~ :)

i also noticed you bumped up your chip...you got the 4000+ ? couldn't wait for the opteron & fx-60 to come down in price huh? hehe

anyways, i'm doing some MINOR overclocking on my 4400+ x2 dual core under the guidance of Sophocles right now, running dual Geforce 6800 Ultras in SLI until my 7900gtx overclocked XFX gpu arrives later this month~ :)

as to the memory you have chosen, good choice...but, i'm currently running 4 gigs of OCZ Platinum pc-3200, rather than the Corsair's high end stuff...just personal preference, i was a LOYAL fan of Mushkin until recently due to the fact that their Redline 1gb sticks are OUTRAGEOUS in pricing, so i chose the cheaper ones for now...

anyways, not to deter too much off topic, just noticed your new "additions" to your comp...mine is running VERY smooth at this point, stable at about 2.5ghz (due to Sophocles's help of course) but i'm good for now...just having my Benq 1650 "learn some media" the past few days, SolidBurn is a really useful option to have...

so far, i've only use Taiyo Yuden and MCC Verbatim media thus far, i think i'm going to stick to TYs from now on once my Verbs run out, i use DVD-R on OCCASION with my Pioneer burner mostly, everything else is DVD+R (which i KNOW are more expensive online compared to the dvd-r), but those give ME the best quality backups...

good day to you all

docTY~

yeah i went with the 4000 till i know for sure what i want/need ,it will most likely be the dual-core opteron 175 demark but maybe i will go with the FX-57 or FX-60,

love the mobo hopefully the 939 socket wont outdate quickly but who knows lol.

the memorey is def. top notch i have i love it ,it makes a BIG difference, i see your running 4 gig which is overboard lol but i expect that from you.

everything is running great not going to OC till i do the highend CPU,which is looking like late june or so hoping the prices comes down a little but the 4000 was a quick fix for now lol

hehe, yeah, u can always expect "overboard" for me when i get started on something, whether it's a new build (computers) or media, or whatevas...if i have a genuine interest...off to the races i go~! :)

yah, 2 gigs is plenty, running it all in "dual channel" naturally, but, u know i have to "max" out my memory channels on all my builds, just a bad habit of mine...well, i look at it this way, i will never have to upgrade to LARgER sticks of memory in the future...i got the max. capacity for THIS particular mobo right now...4 gigs is not necessary, but what da heck, why not? LOL

here is my most recent TY scan...done today on my benq1650, SolidBurn & WOPC enabled, burned @8x (like i always do my TYs) ALL THE WAY TO THE EDGE LOL

this IS the TY thread...there ya all go
