Personally, I like the Sony MIT discs . . .

JVC [Yuden] +R, Verb +R and Sony +R

all are good as long as the Verbs and Sonys are MIT

Yes I've tried the Sony MIT b4 and also from Staples as they are the ones that I've seen sell them at that price when on sale. No issues that I could think of. I can't recall any other B&M having the Sony's for that much. Maybe Best Buy. I always used the Sony DVD-R at that time. Been a while since I just finished all my Black Friday Verbs from '08 from Best Buy.

From this point on I'll be using the +R. Idk what it is about the JVC TYS that are not such a draw to me. Funny how a change can start one in a different direction. It doesn't even feel the same burning these JVC TYS. It might just be Verbs and now that you reminded me of Sony again those 2 if the price is right. Especially as I can get both at a B&M.

Even though on occasion I give or w/e discs to some I don't want to get bad feedback so I try to stay w/good media.

I second that, both ty's and verb's never done me wrong, why even bother with the others.

Fred I would normally agree with you but it seems that some are getting "cr@ppy" batches of MCC 004 (Verbie DVD+R 16x) discs.

I personally think that Sony is a viable replacement if on sale. :)

Than I feel bad for those that did, don't forget sometimes it's not the media, sometimes it's other reasons, but no matter you could be right, so far my experiance, I have been getting ty's mostly from SMS for some years now, never a problem, bought verb's from SMS, Office Max, Sam's, some were made in India, some in Taiwan, past and currant, never a problem.

I know some of you guys do the scan things for quality, there was a argument over that when the blank thread was the Doc Ty thread, there's a guy who knew his stuff, I think he changed his handle I'm not sure, hell he even might be on this thread I don't know, he was the master, sort of like the two big boys on our PC thread Russ and Sammy, anyway the big boys on the doc thread didn't think much of the scanning, but what the outcome was on viewing or listening, and most of all durability.

I didn't follow on the complaints about the verb's or who they were, but do you remember exactly what the complaints were about?

DOCTY was/is the man!! ;)

I've never (almost) put much into scanning, but it's fun. All it will really show is how well your system "transferred" said file to disc and the "quality" of said disc... like the MCC 004 discs that Oman and a few others are getting. Did Oman mention if that disc played? Don't think so... I'm sure it had some issues but one never knows. ;)

There used to be other "Big Boys" in the PC thread... DOCTY, BroBear, Sophocles, BigDK, NuckinFuts, Lp531, and a few others but time marches on dunnit. ;) Anyway some have said the best way to see if a disc is 'good' is to CRC scan it, copy it, and then see about play... if all of those are good then it's a good disc. ;) Of course this is assuming you have a "CLEAN" system and no other issues... I know this first hand... but that's another story. ;)

From what I"ve read lately... TY and Sony have the "consistent" media race won at this point... I haven't used much Sony but others have good luck with it. ;)

hth...

My scans with the 'new' JVC +R 16x Yudens have for the most part been 93-94

I found that if I burn them really fast . . 16x-20x . . that I can get a 96 or 97 on occasion

Personally, as long as my scans are over 90 . . I'm happy

MIT Verbs, MIT Sony and JVC Yudens keep me happy . . . for now

I wouldn't make scanning look Pointless. Because it isn't. The Dvd burner/reader has an eye. It picks up on imperfections that we can't see. My most recent burn is a great example. Had I not scanned that disc, I'd have never seen it. While at present, the disc can probably read flawlessly, if that area on the disc, were to ever get a scratch...Most players would probably have trouble with it. Probably not my LH-20A1H though. :p I didn't see the imperfection til I shined a very bright 9 Led light at the disc.
Verbatim imperfection

greensman, you made my day, I know all of these guys (DOCTY, BroBear, Sophocles, BigDK, NuckinFuts, Lp531) but not nuckinfuts, I laughed my cohonies off, what a great handle lol I love it.

I agree with everything you said, omeg mentioned that the scans are pratical, I can't say cause I never did did, it's like both of us have mentioned, it's how they play and for how long, I do remember docty mentioning scanning is fun just like you said but he never put any emphases on it, like I said I can't say, don't know how and never did it, my personal opinion, it might have a little importance but I'm sure it might be fun, if I knew how I would give it shot.

Last, docty always said, stick with verbs and ty's and you won't have many problems if any at all.

This site has nice article on DVD scanning
http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/media/dvd-tests.htm
This link nice list of DVD codes
http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/media/dvd-tests.htm
Site also listed RITEKF1 as having reflectivity and degradation concerns. I bought some under Verbatim brand at CompUSA and was afraid they wont last several years. Have burned 50 in last couple days with no coasters and they play well in computer and stand alone DVD players. Will keep copy on couple hard drives and a good Verbatim or Ty copy too for awhile. Supposedly Verbatim has their people in these plants to keep an eye on production. I used to be a servicing dealer for Husquvarna power equipment, they have purchased Poulan and several other brands now. The consumer line are no where near the quality of real Husqvarna but, they are painted orange and says Husqvarna. I hope not same case with Verbatim.

@ZOSO

I ripped 2012 with AnyDVD and then recode had no problem with it. Burned it to a JVC and scan got a step pyramid in the PIE up in the 80s and under 725 PIF and a 95 score. Not pleased, burned at X16.

How do you guys who have experienced DL Media think about them overall? Any brand. I've read some posts and talked w/some other users that they never quite panned out like they were intended to. Basically never as good as single layer discs.

On the JVC TYS, I strongly feel that they will not be the TYS everyone has had the joy of experiencing. The whole story sounded shady from the get go. If they'll keep them as very good media not so bad a thing.

Otn, how are the JVC scans comparing to Verb scans for those who have scanned both and/or compared them?

I prefer DVD+R media.. especially in DL discs. ;)

They seem fine.. I've been doing to much watching and NOT enough scanning. :p
