To attempt to answer your question about multi-tasking your burns ... I suppose that you could try to burn a disc with one burner and burn a label with another .. but it impossible to burn a disc and a label on the same disc at the same time since you have to flip the disc over to burn a label ...

Burning labels uses very little resources though .. I usually surf the 'net when I burn labels .. NEVER multi-task when you burn a disc however ... you'll only cause yourself grief

new machine will have a asus A8N32-SLI deluxe MoBo and an AMD dual-core Athlon 64 4200+ CPU
you should have no problems with LIGHTSCRIBING and burning a dvd at the same time on 2 diff. burners..i have that SAME mobo and an AMD 4400+ cpu, i don't have a lightscribe capable burner, but i HAVE burned 2 dvds at the same time (one on pioneer dvr-109 and benq 1650) using Nero multiple recorders feature~ :) just to try it out, came out pretty well actually, but i don't see myself doing it OFTEN as i usually browse the web and run many other apps while burning (hehe, a definite NO NO to most people, but i can't sit at my computer and WAIT for a burn while not doing anything else...it's a waste of time to me~ LOL)

anyways, with your cpu and mobo setup, you should be FINE in the processing power dept...how much RAM do you have? i would suggest at least 2gb of QUALITY RAM if you intend on doing both on your 2 drives simultaneously...also, a GOOD PSU unit is required, it's not so much the wattage u see on the powersupply, but rather, if it DOES PROVIDE CONSISTENT power to the rails as needed by ur computer at the given time...QUALITY again is the question...going with a cheap, generic no-name brand power supply that CLAIMS 500+ or 600w will do you NO GOOD compared to a QUALITY 400w unit~ :) but i'm sure you knew that already...

my suggestion to people building comps, DON'T "cut corners" on good hardware, just because you MUST have that more expensive dual-core cpu, but must budget your remaining funds; don't sell yourself short and get crappy cheap ram modules and a generic powersupply..it will do you more harm than good...get DECENT parts all across the board and take a step down on the cpu if need be...it's stupid to spend all this money on just the cpu only to house it in a crappy mobo w/ crappy memory sticks and a crappy powersupply~ :) get a decent heatsink/fan to properly cool ur cpu too~ that's a must~

hehe, if you notice in my reply to herrick, i said this is a definite "no no" as well it SHOULD be...

@herrick

so, just to make things clear herrick, i DO NOT recommend multi-tasking when burning, i do it only because i know what my system is capable of handling and i have sufficient resources & keep my system resources available when needed...but if you want to be on the "safe-side," do heed catfreak's suggestion...i agree with him completely~ :)

Thank you very much there Kivory666- I know it is impossible to burn and label at same time... I realize the flipping of the disk- that is why I stated two differant drives, I do alot of on the fly burning [set it and forget it] I have to manage my time very carefully do to the demands of my life- I went to a daul CPU simply for the fact of burning two movies at once. You give me hope- I would of went higher on the CPU, but I can always ovewrclock w/ water cooling. Is multiple recorders on ver. 6 of Nero? As for ram I have I gig stick and 1 512- I will be going to 4 gigs of DDR400 [corsair] soon. any sujestion on the name of a good power supply? What is the most load you have put on at the same time w/ your AMD64 4400+

I burn lots of DVDs and like to 'surf' .. to make sure that I don't start creating coasters .. and to eliminate the need for overclocking, I have just assembled my fifth PC .. the way I multi-task is with multi-computers ...

@herrick

the "no no" to multi-tasking is NOT machine damage related, usually when people multi-task during a burn, due to the fact not everyone has a system CAPABLE of running multiple things at once, the QUALITY of the disc (backup) declines...and is often times compromised...

if that same person on their setup would have just let it burn without doing anything else, the backup MIGHT have turned out "better"...there are many factors that go into this, but burning itself doesn't stress the cpu out that much, the cpu is used much more extensively while encoding... :)

as to your question about reliable power supply units, i personally have had great success with Zalman 400w PSUs, Enermax Liberty 500w (the one i am CURRENTLY using with my amd setup, i prefer the modular cabling, it's neat and tidy), Ultra X2 X-Connect 550w (i like this modular PSU too, currently use it in my Intel Extreme Edition build) :)

i've had problems with Antec powersupplies recently, but USUALLY their PSUs are fairly reliable...i had to send back my 450w Antec Smartpower as it was defective right out of the box...damn shame.

anyways, there are MANY other good companies out there, those are the 3 that have worked BEST for me over the years~ :) basically, when it comes to powersupplies, you get what you pay for...if you can get a $29.95 500w unit with NO REBATES, chances are it's a very poor quality unit...the cheapest powersupply i own and use is just shy of $100 U.S. currency, anything less than $50 i would PERSONALLY be very weary of them...

as to "most load", i've put it under maybe 80% max for cpu usage at one time...i don't totally "stress" out my system that much, but yeah...i think that's a ball-park figure as to my load... :)

as to the multiple burns, i am saying that you make 2 copies of the SAME project, i haven't figured out (if it's even possible, i don't think so though) to burn on 2 separate burners with different projects on each of them at the same time. what i was referring to is to burn the SAME thing on 2 diff. burners...sorry, i don't know how to word this any better...LOL

i am using Nero 7 btw, just hold down "Ctrl" key when selecting the burners...i never tried on Nero 6, but it could well be possible there too~ :)

@catfreak

That's one reason I just bought a benq1650 to actually burn DVDs with and the LG can be to lightscribe if I end up using those discs. I have a TDK labeled LG that can be used also for burns.

Can the "extended label contrast utilty" be used with Nero lightscribe, because that's where LG placed the function?

@cincyrob - just found this - http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/FAQs_Nero_General.html#10

* With OEM versions you can only write to one recorder.
* With Nero demo and retail versions you can write to four recorders.

Dear Friends !

For whatever it maybe worth ! I know That most of the AfterDawners are Nero user's But the Ability to record to more than one burner is also included in Roxio's Products ! I have Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum and can do this ! I knew that this feature was included in later versions of Roxio but did not try it until recently with my copy ! And it did and does work ! I don't know how often I would use the feature but hey ! It could come in handy ! I won't go into Roxio versus Nero debate I've used both & whatever works that's what you use ! Just putting out the info on Roxio for those who may use it ! & A Happy Thanx to BlivetNC & Doc For The SeabreeZe Recipe ! happy burning

@little155

Sea Breeze is an astringent, normally people use it to clean their skin...it has this "tingling" feeling that goes down deep into your pores to remove dirt, oil, and makeup (for women, i hope you guys out there don't use makeup LOL) :)
it's like a facial cleaner in layman terms~ :P

hope that clarifies it for ya~

happy cleaning & burning boys

@creaky

the Benq 1650 that we have favors the DVD+R format, as much as you liked the TYG02s, which i too have used on the Benqs; my YUDEN000T02/limited 4 pieces of YUDEN000T03 and MCC003/MCC004 produce better quality scores :) booktyped to dvd-rom of course for perfect playback on my standalone players~ i would load up on the YUDEN000T03s that you have readily available over there in the UK before THOSE become "unavailable" and production stops too~ :P

you'll have to ask BlivetNC for the "details" on his recipe, i am only the middleman~ :) i don't have any dvds at this point in time w/ any labels on them, all mine from the past no longer play and i can no longer rip them, so i threw them away long ago~ :)

the Sea Breeze "recipe" is for removing the sticker labels on top of dvds in a quick and clean fashion that BlivetNC has apparently mastered at this point...i don't know the process he uses, but i'm sure if he comes to visit in here again he'd be willing to share his secret and educate us all in dvd label removing expertise~ :)
