Go with supermediastore.com. I use them all the time. Plus 100 more for the same price as instore.

@arniebear
LOL - do they have bigger ones that one a few hundred :)
Hope your vacation was nice!

@binkie

No 100 is the limit, unless you can find a bigger cakebox lid. But at 20 bucks I could actually own a few of these, just wish they were not just available in Japan. Some people have all the gizmo's, lol. Vacation was the bomb, thanks for asking. Loved the Gulf and can't wait to go back, hurricanes or not :)

@ Anyone questions # 1

There are three kinds of DRR memory sticks [that i know of] 400/333/266... is that speed transfer? what happens when thier not matched? Is there away to find out which one I have on my GIG stick?

@ Anyone questions # 2

I have heard that it is better to burn from your HD... Why- I understand for editing purposes you have to from HD, but I mainly just remove the menus to drop the compression ratio and do it on the fly between two drives... Inlighten me please

burning from the hard drive seems to be a little more stable and you can work on the file with VOB Blanker etc. thats the advantage. i burn on the fly 99% of the time to with little to no problems some disney movies sometimes give me problems doing it that way(doing the movie only) so iam ripping some of them with AnyDVD ripper first to the harddrive then though CloneDVD 2 removes the bad cells that wy

Pete iam up and running again without re-formatting Spysweeper got rid of the sypware and was able to reset IE in the sheilds option. i worked on it for 3 damn days to get rid of it ,it was a nasty one

A PEZ dispenser for discs.

I would think that picking them up from the top the
old fashioned way would keep from damaging the
media.

I have stayed out of trouble lately, no burning problems
but I'm wondering what the latest and best in video
reauthoring/editing software is. I have crudely used Nero Vision
and know little to nothing about graphics layout. Main
purpose would be to do titling for .AVI files and such
that come off the net.

A little late but AD has an awesome forum devoted to spyware and viruses. It really helped me out when a friend brought his laptop over the other weekend infected to the gills from using it without firewall or real-time virus protection. Glad to hear things are squared awawy though.

I thought about making a disc dispenser similar to that (horizontal), mount it under any computer desk and let the spring in the back push them forward. Think of a round napkin dispenser...

binkie7, herrick , Doc Ty & everyone else !

Thanx ever so much for your input & advice ! I guess it's hard to go wrong with Taiyo yudens ! I tend to prefer them whether they are Au Naturiel( No brand labels ) or under the sony or fuji brand (MIJ) I kind of prefer the branded ones for their writing surface (SHARPIE MAN!) but @ .27 cents a piece for genuine TY I can deal with the thermal lacquers! & I know thatTAIYO YUDEN makes inkjet printables as well but little more expensive & would have liked DVd+R's but they are to expensive online !Also I noticed both from post & customer's opinions that SMS shows media codes for these as TY G02/Ty G03's so some people are getting 16x for the price of 8x ! I supposes whatever they have stocked when your order is processed! either way I'll be happy rarely burn over 8x anyway ! well Again ! lady & gentlemen! Thank you for your help and advice 1 Much appeciated ! Happy Cinco De Mayo ! ( Early !) Ciao!

Is reason you don't want a benq burner cost? I just got a Benq DW1650 OEM for $40 dollars shipped from newegg.com. I can't see a drive much cheaper, that you would want.

That's a nasty issue aabbccdd. Glad you got it resolved. I actually payed for my copy of Webroot SpySweeper, it's a good app. I had a horribly infected PC before I got high speed. I read up on Spyware and malware and tried every AV, firewall, and Anti-Spy app around. If you use IE, you must use several layers of Anti-Spy protection to be truly safe. I use Javacool Spyware Blaster, Webroot SpySweeper, Ad-Aware Plus, Trend-Micro PC Cillin AV and FW. That combo has kept me spyware and virus free for almost a year now. Also I locked down my browser, no ActiveX or Java from non trusted sites. That's a must for browsing certain types of sites. Mozilla FireFox is very resistant to spyware, and faster than IE according to everybody I talk to.

Just dl FireFox today and played with it a little, it is indeed fast and no popups. If I could just figure out the tabbed browsing, it is greyed out and am not sure just how it works. I will try anything over IE.

@aabbccdd

Glad it is all cleaned out for you. When I got mine nothing worked. All SBC kept saying was dl their spyware cleaner, they could not seem to understand once you are hijacked that is it, you can't get anywhere.

Yeah I would try out FireFox, but I have too much money invested in my AV, AS stuff, and SpySweeper doesn't support FireFox. I will in time, seems to be the way to go. I have two registry guards and three browser page locks, nothing is getting hijacked on my watch. :)My friends say I'm paranoid, but when you hear stories like that, you remember why you have all that stuff in the first place. So out of curiousity, it seems like 8x media is being phased out across the board, anybody else notice this?

I've noticed, sales are now showing 16X media. My old NEC 1300a is recognizing the Verbs okay, the Fuji it knows it is a Fuji but is unsure of the write speed, but at least it works. Think I will keep on ordering the 8X TY's from Supermedia and really stockpile.

Yeah this is a concern for people who back up PS2 games. 16x media is fine for video playback, but spotty for PS2 games. I am going a lot on second hand info there, I've only burned a couple games to 16x media.

For whats its worth... I have been using FireFox for two years and I am all over the net... I have never been infected, my spyware docter has picked up some very low lookie loows, but as for trouble makers nothing [knock on wood]-- I have been to some very risky sites due to I enjoy free programs.

Re: FireFox.

I am not understanding how anyone would refuse something
that works and is free. It's a browser. It doesn't interact with other
programs. It has tons of options and skins and is constantly
in development.

To use tabbed browsing hit control+t or use the friendly
help forum at Mozilla when needed:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php?c=4

Oh yeah, you will prob'ly want to keep your favorites
list from IE. There's a little program to import them
which is also free.

And don't forget the FireFox bookmarks toolbar. You can fit
subcategories by name on a toolbar like 'shopping'
and then add whatever sites like ebay or half.com
that you use for purchases. 16 of these fit across
the top of my screen.

Elsewhere, use the 5 step procedure at techsupportforum.com
and they will give a free analysis of the results of
a program called HijackThis.

Lastly, another tip from Tech forum: Use a program called
Cleanup. That's the name. A registry cleaner that works with
one click from the desktop. Free.

If all this free stuff bothers you, the developers would
appreciate donations I'm sure.

Well Firefox is good, but if someone chooses to use IE, that's their choice. I may not be a guru when it comes to PC specs, but most likely I know as much about malware as anybody in this thread, and I'm happy with my current setup. SpySweeper doesn't support FireFox, neither does Ad-Watch. It isn't nearly as susceptible to malware as IE. When you have a browser that's so closely tied in with core OS components, of course there'll be trouble, it's yet another thing MS has fouled up. I use IE because I had AOHell for years and my IE was always hijacked by malware. I may move on to FireFox in time, most people have.

I use Mozilla FireFox as my default browser with the added extensions Adblock and Filterset G. Blocks basically every advertisement on the net...I use no AV client and rarely run into problems with spyware.

Took the plunge

Ordered 600 of the 8x DVD-R's Taiyo yudens from Supermediastore.com ! i'm gone for a few days and what is everyone talking about here? LOL

hahahahha...only playing, viruses, malware, etc.etc..something we ALL should be aware of, makes your system go haywire real fast, glad u got it sorted aabbccdd~ :)

welcome back pete (arniebear), glad you had a great vacation~ :)

taiyouser

since u want a 2nd opinion and benq isn't a viable choice for you at this time...i would suggest a pioneer drive for SPEED or a liteon for something solid. necs are good too, but nothing really compares to the VALUE and QUALITY of a benq for the price~ :) if $$$ is not an option, hell, go for a Plextor...they are QUALITY drives, just a little expensive for MOST people...

herrick, as taiyouser stated, ur memory will only run as fast as your slowest stick...the numbers mentioned refer to the speed of each stick

pc3200- refers to ddr400
pc2700- refers to ddr333
etc.etc.

MOST newer mobos utilize the ddr400 or the pc3200 by default, naturally, for overclocking reasons, people opt for the higher speeds of pc3500 (ddr433) or for ddr2 (pc2 4200 or ddr2 533) or ddr2 667 (pc2 5400), etc.etc...there are MANY types/speeds of memory, just make sure you use either DDR or DDR2, whichever you mobo requires, once again, the two are NOT compatible with each other...as to the various speeds of memory, i would suggest the "standard" pc3200 or ddr400, anything slower rated will be a bottleneck to ur system (pc2700, pc2100, etc...)

hope that helps a lil bit...

@everyone else...keep up the good info in this thread, i really don't mind people going off topic as we are here to help each other with their computer woes, but back to topic....

still working on a bulk deal for the new 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03s that are NOW available here in the U.S....bout damn time, Europeans have had them for quite awhile already...at this point, i'm trying to get them down to say a reasonable $0.40/each or lower, cuz $0.48 each from rima.com is TOO expensive in my book, especially since i plan on making a large order starting with 2,000 pieces~ :) i'll let everyone know once i hammer out the details with Taiyo Yuden directly to see what kind of price they can offer me...once we come to a compromise, i will be willing to let others interested in these new 16x dvd+R TYs purchase them at MY price too (+shipping cost to whichever state naturally) :P

i am NOT a media distributor, nor do i sell media for a living, so, once i get MY bulk order from Taiyo Yuden, for those interested will be buying them DIRECTLY FROM ME...so, a little bit of trust will be necessary by both parties involved, if ya don't trust me, then well all i can say is get them from rima.com to ur heart's content~ :) just trying to save a select group of people some $$$ with my company's partnership w/ Taiyo Yuden~

have a good one all~

docTY~
