I bought a big outside VHF/UHF TV antenna a few weeks ago onsale for $49.95 from Fry's so it was worth thr drive but normally I don't shop there. Need to replace my FM antenna so I'll shop online for one. My TV antenna doesn't cover the FM band.

Best Buy, Memorex $12.99 per 50 pack might interest somebody....
@ bratcher Fwiw, this is a very good site for electronic stuff like what you're looking for. http://w.p.mybuys.com/mfs/MCMELECTRONICS...3924942670.html

I bought a HDTV indoor antenna and after showing and demonstrating it for my mom, she cut time Warner Cable loose. The HD channels over the air are practically better, and she only needed her favorites. You'll have no problem finding a FM antenna here should you want it.

The HDTV antenna btw was only $19.99 and also made by MCM. Came out to about $26.00 w/S&H...

Thanks & I'll check them out for an outside FM antenna. The VHF/UHF antenna I bought was a Winegard, same brand as the older one it's going to replace.

I cut my Comcast cable down to just internet when I used to have Digital Preferred (which went up through the Encore channels) plus the internet. I gave back the DVR & they charged me $18 for the downgrade. Oh well, I have enough recorded DVD's plus the ones I've bought so that I don't need cable for a few years. Those discs plus my Netflix subscription make great entertainment plus it's cheaper that what I paid each month for the video part of cable.

I only kept the internet part because it's higher speed than the DSL I could get.

As to over the air TV yes the HD looks great & the SD is very good. Even the HD downconverted to SD (for the standalone DVD recorder) looks good. Don't think I'll need cable for quite awhile!!

Okie. Yes the cable companies are outta control. We did the same. I kept TW Internet. Get about 26Mbps. and just $34.99 monthly. Verizon wanted close to $50.00 for just above 7 or so Mbps.

I'm looking into the online stuff now like Netflix. Have no clue what the buyable downloads are about, just know about the mail service by Netflix.

Whoever got CMC Mags on the TDKs came off. The Ritek F-16s totally garbage.

Comcast gives me 26mb's for $68.09 monthly including tax & the $5 per month rental of the cable modem so your getting a better deal than I am!!

As to Netflix the video downloads are streaming only, you can't save it to your hard drive for later viewing. The 420p SD looks very good on my PC & the 720p HD looks awesome. But not every movie or TV show is available in HD. Only some of them. My turnaround for the DVD's by mail seems to be 1 or 2 days which is nice though as not everything is available in the streaming format.

There is a site that has legal buyable movie downloads for your computer but I don't remember who they are.

As to the blank DVD's, CMC seems to be fairly good as is Ritek F1 with the Rirek F16 being a little worse in my opinion.

Digitalplayground.com is a adult site that I think sells downloadable movies. I'm just using this as reference as they spoke out against Piracy being such a detriment as they're making it out to be.

Now what I still don't know is if you buy these downloadable movies legally do you get to keep them and also be able to store a copy on a blank DVD for backup, or is there DRM that just lets you put it on your HDD, but no where else.

Yes, that batch of TDKs I returned were F-16s and 1st was a coaster!

Only 8X though.

Well I was thinking of are regular hollywood movie sites like Cinemanow (which I don't belong to) plus Itunes & Amazon Video On Demand where you can rent & buy movies plus TV shows. All use DRM & can only be watched on your PC or Mac computer. I've bought a few movies & TV show seasons from both Itunes & Amazon & am happy with both products. They can be backed up to a DVD but the file will only play on your computer.

As to Ritek F16 it seemed to burn well at 8x in my computer. I didn't try to burn it any higher after trying one disc at 16x nor am I buying any more if I can avoid it. None have been coasters thankfully....

@ omegaman and bratcher I burned them at a higher speed, don't remember which. It messed up during the burn w/ImgBurn so I just decided to send them back. I figured the refund was way better served on a pack of Verbs from EGG. Yes at 8x the Riteks do ok as was suggested I think here before.

@ bratcher The adult site was just an example, I also was interested in the regular movie download sites. Now that you clarified the process, it really is a shame that even after buying a digital download you still are restricted to playback on your PC. Guess Digital future is still a ways on that end. Man, a Digital Library is needed already as we all know from all these backup discs and HDDs. They do have some, but very costly like Kaleidescape.

Can you shoot it over a media server like TVersity for playback on the PS3/Xbox, or even that's not workable?

The only way that I know of is to connect your computer to a bigger screen TV. The DRM would prevent playing the movie back on anything but the computer you downloaded it to.

As to movie storage I prefer it on DVD's that I can play in my standalone DVD recorder thats mainly used as a player now.

Yeah everything fine - got back from a one night junket in Biloxi Casino with all our money we brought, so we had a free trip. A first in a long while. Hosting poker game tomorrow night with 3 couples vying for the money. More like drinking and eating with cards. Same thing been doing for last two nights. Party hardy. Labor Day Weekend. And it's cool here first time since April. Now to bed.

Apparently Taiyo Yuden does produce Blu-Ray media. However, at present it appears to be only available in Japan. Yes, it's a 2008 article. But at least there IS word about TY producing BD-R. That's what I was after. Can't wait til it's available in the states xD
http://www.cdrinfo.com/sections/news/Details.aspx?NewsId=22521
Also found this. Apparently only comes in L.T.H. format. Which from what I've heard, is the best option for BD media.

Does anybody know where one can get CMC DVDR 100 packs cheaper than $19.99 each or is that the lowest price out there for white inkjet printable media?

Valuedisc from Microcenter is what I'm using at the moment & they are good discs.

Those of you that are close to a Fry's might want to check out the Phillips +/- R 200 pack (not inkjet printable) for $24.99 each. I suspect that it's CMC media as thats been my experience with Phillips in the last few months that I've bought a 50 pack here & there. Large box & I'd bet that the discs are tape wrapped without a spindle but I didn't buy one to be sure. The sale runs until the 9th of this month so there's 2 days left on it.

Sticking w/the Verb DVD+Rs for now. Still have about 160 or so from the $19.99 Egg Sale.

@ Russ and Omega Thnx to your suggestions Russ and to Omega and others on that ASUS DVD Burner. Snatched it at EGG for $19.99 free shipping and it had the latest firmware. I will definitely get another one asaic.

You guys have more experience w/the burners. How though do you know they're a clone of another brand like Lite-On, Optiarc etc...? Is it just the exterior resemblance?

There's videohelp ---> DRW-22B2S
Which unfortunately is not certain on this drive. Or there is MYCE.COM (CDFREAKS). There are a lot of experts there ;) What it boils down to though, is the chipsets that are used. Lite-on strictly only allows their drives to use Lite-On tools. Since the asus can use those tools, its HIGHLY likely that its a rebranded lite-on drive ;)
