Just when I was going to have a heart attack (again) because I paid the big bucks for my Plex. Wish the price was 64.99 though, I pick up some spares :)

At least they went back to the plextor/sanyo chipset on the PX-760's. The PX-740's and PX-750's were a mess. I may snag up a PX-716a if I can find one under $70 that is ide interface. All my sata sockets are being used.

Same here my SATA's are in use, of course I could get a bigger C drive and then free up the second SATA. Or just find another IDE 716a at a reasonable price.
@Mort
You were right about those chipsets on the 740's. Plex should stick to there own, but they wanted to make a cheaper model.

LOL,
wow lookie lookie here...seems like the band has gathered for some great info! :)
@cincyrob,
i like the nice "touch" you put on the clerical error by quoting what i have in my signature, nicely done my friend...you are in NO way the "laughing stock" of AD, as binkie7 said, we ALL MAKE MISTAKES, we are only human...i'm very much guilty of this too! as to getting everyone's hopes up, i believe i did the same thing back in the dayz only to find the particular media that i was raving about COMPLETELY SOLD OUT, so we are in the SAME boat here~ :) i do appreciate your efforts about the Plextor 716A, it was quite kind of you to actually take the time to go there and check for us all, thank you for that~ :)
lastly, you got VERY GOOD media indeed w/ the MAXELL002s, i picked up some myself at the last Office Depot Maxell sale a few weeks back as i found them hidden away behind all the 16x MIT packs of Maxell, and the 8x i picked up were inkjet printable to boot! whoo hoo!! :) gotta love it when you find a gem in the rough...congrats on the Maxells you have purchased, good stuff...
@TY4ever
yeah, my Benq 1650 is MY favorite drive at the moment, it's an excellent burner, most of my quality scans i post up are using the Benq to burn and to scan, i use my Pioneer dvr-109 to rip to harddrive however, as it's my FASTEST ripper to date, after tweaking it a bit and cross-flashing it w/ Buffalo firmware, i get consistent 12x-16x rips on my originals, saving me quite a bit of time...then 8x for burning onto Taiyo Yudens with my Benq...fast and easy (good enough for my backups even though after a year of nudging, i just might turn to DVDRebuilder Pro/CCE for the best quality output -as recommended by my good buddy Mort81 and arniebear- i know you guys could teach me how to set everything up properly, time for me to become the "student" once again...learning new stuff every day!)
btw, $45 USD is a decent price for the Benq 1650, my first 2 1650s cost me $60+/each since i HAD to get them before anyone else did here in the U.S., i ordered them from ncix in Canada, only to find out that like 3 weeks later, meritline and newegg had them in stock! DOH! lol :)
anyways, before i go too far off the deep end, i'll end it here...will keep my eye out for any Plextor 716's on sale/clearance (PATA or SATA models) and will update in this thread if i find any for a good price... :)
keep burning boys/girls, Taiyo Yuden...FLAWLESS VICTORY...

Wonder if anyone can answer this for me... its a little off the subject- But it is about media. Someone gave me a disk to copy and I noticed on the back of the DVD9 commercial disk it is mastered in high definition- does it take a special funtion on a DVD player, will it make any differance on an analog t.v.? any info will be very helpful.

Quote: does it take a special funtion on a DVD player, will it make any differance on an analog t.v.? any info will be very helpful
actually, no it doesn't require a "special function" on a dvd player, it will play just fine on your analog TV, just not at HD quality because your TV cannot render the images in high-def. :P
but making a backup of it uses the identical process to backup any other normal DVD9 original, it will play fine, just not in HD-quality if your tv is not capable of such high resolutions/display~ :)
hope that helps.

Hey!
How's everyone?
Just got a bad feedback from my wife's friend whom i lent one of my burned Taiyo verb,there was my wedding video on that,she says that while playing the disc on her standalone player,the disc freezes quite frequently and she was unable to watch it till the end(guess it just blocked halfway or somewhere around).
Btw,i burned the disc(taiyo yuden verbatim DVD+R 8x,inner hub coding TG001162) on my pioneer DVR-111EXL which i hate to say doesn't support booktyping.I know you will say that i actually have the new plex and that i just bought the Benq 1650 but i'm saving them till i get to Mauritius,then i'm gonna install these two drives.
But the disc plays fine on the same pioneer i used to burn it as i watched a little after the burn and everything goes well.The brand of the dvd player she's using to watch the disc is of an unknown name to all of you,don't know what the hell made her her buy this kind of crap brand(guess it was the price),but the disc's still with her and i'm waiting it back to watch it on my philips standalone player.
So what do you think about that?Is it because the disc has not been booktyped?It's the first movie i've burned on the verbs,others used to be AVI.data(which work well).
The worst part is that she said to my wife which kind of crap media i was using.Really to hear that makes my blood getting up directly to my head and blood is near getting out of my two ears!!!How dare she said taiyo media "crap" when she uses TDK cds????
Thanks.
Vincent.

@TY4ever
the issue that lies within is 2-fold, both the fact that your YUDEN000T02s are not booktyped + the fact her "cheap" standalone player is quite "picky" will account for the poor playback :)
while i agree with you that this "friend" actually had the audacity to ask your wife what "cheap media" you were using, hey, just chalk that one up as her being "less than knowledgeable" about media, PERIOD...not everyone knows about the quality of Taiyo Yudens, she's just the "avg. joe" (as we call it here in the U.S.) and wouldn't be able to tell the difference between for example, a CMCMAG manufactured disc and a Taiyo Yuden...i think if someone said that about one of MY TY backups, i would get heated as well, those that know nothing about media will naturally put blame on the media disc in question, they will never for a split second think there is something wrong with THEIR setup/hardware used for viewing...
the same is true with people that get a LOT of failed burns and coasters left and right, it's their LACK OF KNOWLEDGE and experience that leads them to believe that the media is at fault, not their own burning process, their hardware/burner, firmware is lacking, settings are incorrect for a proper burn, or their computer/stand alone dvd players :)
we here try to educate people on how to get to the bottom of the issues, tweaking this setting or changing that setting, making sure the firmware is up to date on the burner you are using and naturally suggesting good quality media to produce your backups on...
when you get the disc back and have time to try it ON YOUR standalone player, see if the problems she stated are apparent on YOUR dvd player...if YOUR player doesn't exhibit the same problems HER stand alone player does, then it's obvious that it's HER standalone that is having compatibility issues in playing the disc properly...IF your standalone player has problems, then we need to consider diving deeper into getting you booktyped to dvd-rom as well as taking a look at the PROCESS you go thru when come time for burning (ie. which programs you use, burn speed, settings inside the software parameters, keeping your system clean-defrag, DMA is on, etc.) :)
it would NOT be accurate of me to just simply state, "it's HER player, your discs are fine" or "it's cuz the DVD+R is not booktyped to dvd-rom"...there could be quite a few factors giving you/her these playback issues, i will not make a blanket statement at this point to where the ROOT of the problem lies...

Just to add to what the doc said, since your pioneer dvdrw is not capable of bitsetting (at least without hacked f/w), I would recommend trying some good quality DVD-R media since they are more compatable with set top dvd players than non booktyped dvd-rom dvd+r's.
Untill you get your benq 1650 up n running you may find you have better results with DVD-R media as opposed to DVD+R with your pioneer. Pioneer was one of the developers of the DVD-R format and that is one reason why they don't support bitsetting with stock firmware and tend to perform better with the DVD-R format.

Yeah, you DO need to try the DVDRebuilder with CCE... There is NOTHING better!!! CloneDVD2 and Recode2 still have their places in my arsenal (CloneDVD2 for 90%+ compression, Recode2 for 75 - 89%, and RB w/CCE for anything lower), but the output of RB and CCE is virtually unrivalled. There are some instances where Procoder2 is the better encoder, and if price is the issue, then Hank's encoder can't be beat because it is FREE and excellent to boot. CCE takes the crown by producing the higher quality output and for its speed in relation to Hank's and Procoder...
Give it a shot, Doc (no pun intended)! You won't regret it!!! I got RBPro when it was a $10 donation... Even at at its current price, it is more than worth it!

Thanks to both of you.Yes i think i'm gonna wait for my disc back and give it a try on my philips player.But also i think i'm gonna buy one pack of 25 DVD-R media(good ones of course) just to use them on the pioneer.I better keep my precious Taiyos for burners which can booktype.It will be kind of waste if i just use them on the pioneer without booktyping them and may be will get compatibility issues while trying to view them.
Now i'll have to check which decent DVD-R media i can find as i haven't find any Taiyos in that format here till now.
But thanks again,i'll keep you informed about the situation.

Happy 4th of July to everyone,
It just got even better for me. I now have true Taiyo dvds of the TYG02 breed. I burned Moto GP4, and the playback was successful - no skips, hick-ups, etc. I went back and reburned Total Overdose. I had previously burned it to a TYG03, and that burn provided choppy playback. The re-burn onto the TYG02 exhibited no problems whatsoever.
Since Moto GP4 was a small burn (small image size), I selected a larger game - The Suffering "ties that bind." The game was smooth and sleek, eventhough it's horror based, if you get my drift.
By the way, for those curious, I didn't rebuild the games. I merely made an image, and burned it back. I have found that I don't have to rebuild games (unless they are dual layered), when using Verbatim -Rs (8x) and now with my new TYG02s. Typically, the rule of thumb is the closer the image is to 4 gigs in size, rebuild the game. However, via using the two dvd types and brands I just mentioned, I defy that stereotype.
Once again, everyone have a Happy 4th, and don't play with your fireworks while blind-folded - hahaha

@teflonmyk
hi buddy, yeah, i just made my $30 donation for dvdrb pro, and got it up and running, Mort81 has been a great help to me in terms of settings and paths, but i admit it's a bit "different" in terms of getting all the settings done correctly...this is still my "virgin" experience with dvdrb pro and the various encoders i can use, so, just getting my feet wet at this point~ LOL (me, a "virgin" at something...that's funny) LOL
@arniebear
anyways, yeah, i've been keeping an eye on that thread for a few days now, it's amazing the side by side comparisons and the output obtained by each...i sincerely thank you and the other great contributors in that thread for their time and dedication! :)
@TY4Ever
yah, let us know how things work out once u get the disc back, don't sweat it too much and juss enjoy your burning experience...i would recommend you save the YUDEN000T02s and booktype them for greater compatibility when u return home and get your Benq + Plextor set up, in the meantime...what other kinds of DVD-R media are available to you, if TYs are nowhere to be found? even though i ONLY use Taiyo Yuden for DVD-R format, as i PERSONALLY don't really like the Verbatim MCC DVD-R that much myself, if you can find the Maxell MIJ, made by Hitachi with the MID coding of MXLRG03 (8x DVD-R) made in japan, these are probably MY 2nd favorite media in the DVD-R format :) but i don't know if you can get them or not, lemme know what other "brands" are available to you over there and i'll see what i can "guess" their MID (manufacturers) are, i obviously won't be correct 100% of the time as media available in different countries varies from batch to batch found here in the U.S. & U.K.(Europe) & Australia & various asian countries... :)
good luck though...
@phaser1
as i never burned a video game backup before, i wouldn't know where to begin, congrats nevertheless...i think when i recommend the 8x over the 16x media (TYG02 vs TYG03) it's all inclusive regardless of how your backups are made...the TYG02s at THIS point are more "reliable" than their 16x brothers, and you have shown us that in backing up games as well, not only dvd video...so my recommendation still holds true across the board...my sig. will NOT change to include the TYG03s as MY recommended media anytime soon :)
happy 4th to ALL here in the U.S. and happy July 1st to our Canadian friends be safe and enjoy urselves~

You will enjoy the output you get from RB, it takes some time to do but the wait is worth it. If you want to see how the new program that integrates with Decrypter works, have a look at the RipIt4Me guide that is listed in my sig. Not a bad little program, although it will take more time that DVDFab to rip, but it is free. And all my output files were burned flawlessly on TY media, of course. To all in the US happy and safe 4th, enjoy the food and fireworks :)

Thanks Doc!You're really the guy to our questions,our savior if can call so!
I think i saw the Maxell media somewhere,but i don't know if it's in the DVD-R or DVD+R and if it's made in japan.Better i go have a closer look on these.But are all maxell medias made in japan or are some made in other countries too,like made in taiwan?Just to know if i should be looking specifically the made in japan on the package to be sure if i'm getting the right stuff or not.Here we have a lot of mitsubishi medias in both format,TDK(sorry to say that brand as i know you hate it),Peomak by samsung,verbatim,etc....and yeah not to forget,a lot of really cheap crap medias too are available here!
Have a nice day to all of you!
Vincent

@arniebear
i'm still getting the hang of dvd-rb pro, imma newbie with it all and the various encoders i can use with it, but i got it up and running and juss letting it "do it's thang" right now~ :P but yeah, i have been keeping an eye on the various threads that have the screen shot comparisons up and have also caught your RipIt4Me guide, very nicely done..i'm sure it will prove very helpful to those that choose to use it. :P
i happen to own AnyDVD by Slysoft as well, another great investment and worth my money IMHO, so i use the built in ripper to get my video_ts files onto my harddrive...but for another FREE alternative, RipIt4Me is definitely a good choice... :)
thank you for all your contributions as i have personally learned a lot from you in my time here...
@TY4ever
there are the Maxell MIT (made in taiwan) media as well, most of the time, they are Ritek made, decent discs, but the Hitachi made MIJ are of even HIGHER quality and i have had nothing but success with them...for the 8x DVD-R, the MIT are the RitekG05s...as to the other discs you have available over there, i'm not too sure of the manufacturers as i have never used those specific brands before...for the whole TDK thing, well, there is the possibility you could get some decent media under that brand, i'm just biased towards TDK's OWN manufactured media, ie. TTG01, TTG02, TTH01, etc...with the TT prefix, also the MID with the TDK prefix...but, TDK brand does in fact have a lot of good manufacturers; MCC being one of them and even Taiyo Yuden :P
it's a toss up when purchasing the TDK MIT 8x DVD-R format with TDK brand, it could be MCC02RG20/RitekG05/TTG02/TTH01, so you could get any of those...the 16x DVD-R MIT are also primarily the TT coded ones...however, if you find the MIJ TDK 8x DVD-R, those are the TYG02s that are so highly regarded by myself and many others...genuine Taiyo Yudens :)
thanks for the compliment about being your "media savior," you are much too kind~ :) good luck w/ ur search...
