Hi ArnieBear,
A Question ... if I am able to back up everything with DVDS or DVDD and PGCEdit & VobBlanker ... do I really need RipIt4me?
I guess I know these already work "Flawlessly" ... so!!!
Thanks!
G!

It is true RipIt4Me combines the Wizard in PGCEdit, and FixVTS. If you want to just put your DVD in and go about your business and come back to a burned DVD then use the program in 1click mode, it does it all. Just a free alternative to pay programs :)

Quote: Just a free alternative to pay programs :)
that's pretty much how i am looking at it too at this point, since i personally paid for AnyDVD by slysoft long time ago, might as well utilize it as much as possible; but for those not wishing to purchase AnyDVD, this is a very good alternative~ :)
yah, i just recently made a donation for DVD-RB Pro, well worth the money INHO too! still getting the hang of it, but i have ONE finished as of this morning and i burned it onto a YUDEN000T02 @8x and the output was STUNNING! to the naked eye, you could NOT tell the difference from my original...this is with ALL extras included as well, not just main movie~ :)
original size was 6.71gb, got it down to a single layer and i am pleased...so far so good, it will take a little while to master everything, but i thank you for recommending this to me from such long time ago...you and mort81 and teflonmyk, thanks for "showing me the light" in terms of burning programs/encoders :) i still learn something new each day, whether it's a small setting/tweak here and there, ya can NEVER "know it all"...i appreciate the opinions and perspectives of all the contributors in this thread!
good day to you all

Heads up for those in Houston. I am visiting here and Sony 8X DVD+Rs are on sale at Best Buys here for $14.99 for 50. White octagon spacers and made in Japan. I picked up 200 of those TY T02s.

@DocTY
Hi Doc!
Got my wedding video beackup back from my wife's "friend"(the one saying that my Taiyo verb is crap media and that it freezes a lot on her stand player).Watched the disc on my philips player and guess what?It plays flawlessly without any freezing.I've been able to watch till the end(thing she couldn't make) and no freezing at all.However,as a i said before the disc has not been booktyped as my pioneer doesn't support that feature,but even without booktyping no problem at all while viewing it.
I guess now that i'll have to call her and invite her to come and watch the same disc at my place,then she'll know between my media or her player,which one is crap!But one thing i'm sure is that if it was booktyped,then it would have played well on her side too,isn't it?
So after all,what can you deduce from that?If i'm right my verbs are fine then?Just as the reputation of Taiyo Yuden medias!
Let me know what do you think about that,i'll appreciate it.
Thanks.
Vincent.

yes your media is fine , making her a dvd using the DVD-R format will more than likely solve her problem with her standalone player.

@TY4ever
as aabbccdd mentioned, i don't doubt that if you were to use a TYG02 (8x DVD-R genuine Taiyo Yuden) that it would MORE THAN LIKELY work for your wife's "friend's" standalone dvd player; but since you asked Quote: But one thing i'm sure is that if it was booktyped,then it would have played well on her side too,isn't it?
So after all,what can you deduce from that?If i'm right my verbs are fine then?Just as the reputation of Taiyo Yuden medias!
YES, IF the YUDEN000T02s that you got (Verb TYs 8x DVD+R) were booktyped, then yes it WOULD/WILL play on the "friends" standalone...
your Verb TYs are just fine, nothing wrong with them at all since you have been able to watch your wedding video from beginning to end on YOUR standalone dvd player...this all goes back to standalone dvd player compatibility, as i mentioned, some are more "picky/finicky" than others and will have a hard time playing the DVD+R (non-booktyped)...lastly, there is a VERY SMALL chance that your wife's friend's standalone is similar to MY Toshiba brand standalones, ironically, it WILL NOT play ANY DVD+R booktyped to dvd-rom, to this day i have STILL not figured out why this is, so i MUST use DVD-R format in order for those specific Toshibas to play my backups...this holds true for ALL my various DVD+R format media (ie. YUDEN000T02, YUDEN000T03, MCC003, MCC004, MAXELL002, even the few RitekR03s i tried in the past...ALL of these booktyped to dvd-rom, DISC ERROR...will not play)...
so, hopefully that gives you an idea as to how specific standalones COULD be problematic during playback of perfectly GOOD media that was burned properly, booktyped DVD+R or not; but in MOST cases, nearly all the dvd players out there SHOULD have the highest compatibility w/ DVD+R booktyped to dvd-rom, followed by DVD-R, then by DVD+R by itself (non-booktyped) :) compatibility lesson 101 :P
@q12300
regarding the Taiyo Yudens @ amazon.com, a link would be good so i could check for you exactly what you are about to purchase, it's a shame TYs are so difficult for you to obtain in Israel...gimme a link and i'll let you know, thanks~ :)
@garmoon
congrats on the new 200 YUDEN000T02s while visiting in Houston :) guess you can be ANYWHERE and finding TYs are always on the mind...same is true for me too~ LOL
@realrocky
creaky, our moderator, would probably be the best person to turn to regarding the MCC Verbatims that are made in India, i personally have never tried them myself and i've read MIXED reviews, some say they are great media and have no problems, others say the Indian Verbs have been less than stellar, so it depends who you ask...i've used well over a thousand of the MCC003 MIT made in taiwan ones with success rivalling my TYs, only about 200 of the MCC004 16x DVD+R, as i personally prefer the 8x rated discs over the 16x discs in ANY brand at this point, also MIT burned fast on my Benq drives with good success too. :) good luck with whichever ones you have...
good day to you all

Bunnyrip may have stumbled on to some MIJ Sony 16x TYs, he reported some in the store with a wite spacer that was round though, not octangular like people say. Anyways it may be nothing but I asked if he could get some to see if they were. He still hasnt replied though. Thought Id give you some info on that. Heres the link to that thread.

@realrocky
about the verbs MIT and those MII,i don't know much things about them as i never really used them,luckily i got those from japan.But if i'm right,from what i have learnt from this thread,verbatim media is among those which can be qualified as decent or even very good media whatever the country where the media is made,as the standard quality level for these medias are quite top level and it's not like some other brands which are good when being made in a particular country and then when change,the media changes for the worst.I think that verbatim medias quality remains good whatever the country it comes from.But one thing is sure is that those MIJ are the best as they are made by Taiyo Yuden,but unfortunately not available everywhere.
But however,i got something to say about the verbs made in india,i got a friend from mauritius who purchased two packs(50 discs/pack) of DVD-R 8x verbatim MII and when he opened both,it was kind of disaster,well by disaster i mean when you look at the recording side of the these discs,85% of them from both packs have marks and scratches on them.It's not that these discs have been damaged while shipping or something like that because the cakeboxes were in good condition though.I think that may be it's from the factory itself that such scratches have been mistakenly put on these discs,may be not enough care in handling or something like that.But even with the scratches,he used them and no problem at all.Every disc burned perfectly.
May be he got a bad batch but i highly doubt about that as Verbatim would not let these kind of batches go on the market.I would bend on the fact that may be it's mishandling during packaging process or something near to that,in the factory.
What i mean is that about the quality of the disc(quality invisible to the eyes),all are good(but the taiyo one rocks).But about phisical quality,those MIJ gets the first place,second MIT or MIS and lastly MII.
But this what i think and what i've been able to see with my eyes,but it all depends on you about which one you're gonna use.
What others think about that?
Vincent.

@realrocky - i've used many many Verbs, made in Taiwan and India too, virtually all with great success. Some months ago i splurged on a few 100 MCC004 as my fave stockist www.svp.co.uk were a bit sparse on TY discs (looks like they're now out of stock on the new YUDEN000T03 - GRR!!! but i digress). i had one of the MCC004 fail on me (think it was on my new Benq burner, may be wrong as it could have been on one of my previous LG burners - i posted about it in the Benq Hall of Fame thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/330512). I returned all unused MCC004 out of paranoia, and i've since ditched both LG burners as they've let me down (that's 2 or 3 LG that have gone south on me now). the MCC004 aren't quite perfectly catered for in the Benq DW1650 firmware (see that link for more details, i never did find more info on the firmware 'anomaly').
Anyway, as to Indian Verbs, yes there's mixed reviews on them; for instance, i know pieman who posts here from time to time, hates Indian Verbs with a passion (that'll probably the older types of Verbs ie pre-MCC004 i think), but i've always got on great with them.

mixed reviews is right, too bad i'll never have a chance to try them myself, but as always, i take your word and review on it!
drop by the TY thread more often if ya have time creaky, it's difficult to keep up with everything going around the world without your help from the UK :) the media avail. to us here in the U.S. is quite diff. than that of the UK, wish i could get my hands on those sexy Verb TYs that you and now TY4ever have...grr...as is life~ :)

but as you know, you could get the TYG02 OR the TYG03s (you already know my opinion of the TYG03s, not nearly as reliable as the TYG02s), if you just need a 100-pack, this right here is THE BEST PRICE shipped right now, guaranteed TYG02s :)

even cheaper than supermediastore total SHIPPED price~ :) no tax for you guys/gals outside of California :P
