if by Taiyo Yuden "code" you mean the laser inscribed coding that i commonly refer to as "inner hub coding" then yes~ :) ALL genuine Taiyo Yudens will have said "inner hub coding" on them
Indeed, that's what I meant (sorry for not using the appropriate terminology). I'll buy a box and check with the codes you gave in your first post. Very Useful post by the way! (^_^)

i'm a relative "newbie" to dvd-rebuilder myself, just started using it last week actually, but so far, it's a great combination! the results are simply stunning using an ENCODER to process, compared to the common transcoders out there today...i am very impressed PERSONALLY...i'm experimenting w/ CCE SP and Procoder 2.0 at this point, the final output is very close in comparison TO ME, i'm sure the other free/paid encoders are very good too, just haven't had a lot of time to try them all out yet! my collection of ORIGINAL dvds is HUGE, over 3,000+ now, i am an avid collector of dvds in EVERY genre, i am not restricted to just horror, action, adventure, romance, cartoons, foreign films, etc...i collect them ALL like people do with baseball cards, coins, cds, and other hobbies others may be interested in... :) i don't have a LOT of time, working most of the time, so i PERSONALLY use rebuilder on the ones i REALLY want to retain the best quality and DTS audio (if available) or if the really high compression is needed :) my other dvds, i will usually burn it up quickly using anydvd+clonedvd2 both by slysoft to save myself some time~ :) welcome to AD and enjoy your stay here, feel free to pop in my TY thread if you have ANY questions or comments at all regarding Taiyo Yuden...good day to you.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Japanese DVD's cost about 55 USD a piece, so you can imagine my desire to make decent backups. For smaller DVD's I'll stick to Shrink, but for larger ones (TV series), I'll go with Rebuilder. Of course, always using TY discs to maintain good quality media.

On more question, would it matter if I bought the printable ones with white surface and after writing them use a Canon printer to print labels on them? This won't affect the quality? That way I can store them in a DJ case I bought that can contain up to 800 discs. I'll use Movie Collector to catalogue them as well.

Also thank you for your warm welcome and congratz on your huge DVD collection. That's just amazing!

whew! lemme see if i can cover all the bases here:

@q12300

creaky did in fact give you a good tip, as i mentioned earlier about the price of laptop burners being more expensive than that of desktop burners, it might be a good idea in the future to get an internal (i too would recommend a Benq 1650, i got 4 of them now) and slap that bad boy into an external enclosure, but i totally understand your point of having the laptop burner under warranty and the budget standpoint in purchasing new hardware, but it's something to DEFINITELY consider in the future...

as to the Verbatim 16x dvds working on the NEC 6500a, to be completely honest with you, i didn't get a chance to try...i RARELY purchase 16x rated discs due to firmwares lacking the proper support for MANY of them (even if they ARE recognized, in MY eyes, the firmware tables are NOT sufficient or "good enough" for me at this point) and i only burned onto 16x rated discs (Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden) on my DESKTOP burners where i DO use modified firmwares... :) also, my 16x media usage is far more limited than my 4x or 8x rated discs, i've used a few hundred of the TY 16x DVD-R TYG03 coded ones on my desktops and only the 16x DVD+R Verbatim MCC004 coded ones & 16x DVD+R YUDEN000T03s on my desktops as well~ :) i never bothered with my laptop to burn DVD+R due to using official firmware i was not able to booktype/bitset to dvd-rom, another hinderance that kept me from burning w/ laptop Nec 6500a :) at this point i am ALL out of Verbatim 16x DVD+R and have no intention of purchasing more since i PERSONALLY feel that the YUDEN000T03s are "better" than the MCC004s. sorry i could not answer your question from experience, i had never bothered to try because of lack of booktyping on the Nec 6500a (laptop) and i'm a DVD+R guy, i rarely use DVD-R anymore~ :)

as to the Z_shop stores, the history makes me a little weary of the past, while it COULD be affiliated with the actual www.meritline.com website, you never know~ :) one thing to keep in mind, nearly ALL the "reputable" online retailers here in CA are asian owned and operated (mainly of the Chinese persuasion) ie. supermediastore, meritline,allmediaoutlet,shop4tech, etc.) so the fact that the Z_shop you were considering buying from had the name "lianya," there IS a possibility that it is just an offshoot from the meritline.com owner~ :) typical taiwanese/chinese name right there~ LOL :)

good luck w/ ur TY samples, if you get them, so far it seems that at least w/ U.S. requests, they have so far NOT been honored, hope your luck fares better :) as much as i would like to help you out personally, i refuse to ship INTERNATIONALLY as i have been "burned" no pun intended, by country tariffs/duties/taxes in the past where it cost me 5x more than the product was worth because it was confiscated at the international checkpoint, it was way too much headache for me...

@uscunc

the white full hub inkjet printable TYs are LESS prone to smudges/fingerprints compared to the shiny silvers, so that might be a good option for you to keep the smudges/fingerprints off of them for family/friends/customers :) they are more of a "matte" surface and not nearly as "shiny"...sounds like you might have a winner here in the white full hub inkjet printables :)

@kyo28

i just made up the "inner hub coding" as far as terminology, there really is no "correct" way of saying it~ no apology necessary` :) i couldn't think of anything else at the time, so i just described it as i saw fit~ LOL

also, when you say you want to print using a Canon printer after the burn, you have a DIRECT-TO-CD/DVD inkjet printer? i know the model revisions vary from country to country, does your Canon printer have a removable "disc tray" where you load your CD/DVDs onto using some sort of "arrowed" guideline and it prints directly onto the disc? im am going to ASSUME yours does, so, to answer your question, NO, the white full hub inkjet printable Taiyo Yudens are made to the same quality as the shiny silver unbranded kind, and other store branded TYs, there will be NO QUALITY loss by simply printing onto the INKJET printable Taiyo Yudens directly with your printer~ :) hope that clarifies a little bit, good luck~ :) thanks for the kind words in your earlier post~

good day to you all

Thanks DocTY, you put my mind at easy. The inkjet printer is indeed a Canon all-in type like listed here:
http://cweb.canon.jp/pixus/lineup/mp800/point01.html
(scroll down to see how the CD/DVD's are loaded into the printer).

Now I have all the information I needed and can start experimenting away! (^_^)v

:) kyo28, good luck and may the FORCE be with you and your Taiyo Yudens "THAT's" right baby! burn baby burn! (pun intended!) :)

nice printer ya got there, i happen to use a R300m Epson here in the States, it works a charm on my inkjet printables~ :) and my dad i bought him the R220 Epson, both are not the "highest end" models, but they are good enough for our printing purposes...i'm not much of a "print-to" guy, i prefer Sharpies (permanent marking pens) :)

Nope, all of the 4X media has gone, I can't remember anyone in the past few months getting the 4X, some are even getting the 16X media. I have less than 25 of the 4X left, using them in my DVD-R standalone recorder for now.

Hi guys,

I know this is not the forum for this question ... but may be you'll forgive me ...
My BenQ 1640 that I have used for over 4000 burns ... is acting up ... It failed to burn a DVD and now a CD ... both of my blanks are TY ...

Question: Is this a Signal that my BenQ 1640 is Dying or what?

Thanks!

Hey aabbccdd,

If I don't care for the "Lightscribe" feature ... how about BenQ1650 ... I figure the less Bells & Whistle the safer the unit!?!?!?

Or is 1655 better than 1650?

Thanks!

They are basically the same drive. The 1650 just doesn't incorperate lightscribe technology.

the 4x DVD-R are almost NON-existent anymore from ANY of the online retailers, you will MOST likely get the 8x TYG02 or even the less than great TYG03s (16x DVD-R) as the other guys mentioned above...the price is definitely right, but it depends if you are "picky" about what you like to use...i got about 600 left of the 4x DVD-R, i loaded up before they were phased out~ :)

IN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, the TYG01s were made VERY WELL, whether or not i happened to get "good batches" is arguable, but ALL of my TYG01s (4x DVD-R TYs) fare BETTER than even my most pristine TYG03s (ie. quality scores, max PIE/PIF errors, feel of the actual disc in my hand,etc.) :)

good day to you all~ :)

p.s. i'm not a lightscribe person MYSELF, i have a few Benq 1650s, highly recommended by ME personally, the few scans i have posted w/ 99 quality scores in this thread have ALL been burned @8x on the Benq 1650, proof positive of what the Benq 1650 CAN do once everything is setup properly~ :)

@DocTY

Hi there!

Do you still remember when i said that one of my wife's "friend" got playback problems on her stand alone player while viewing my wedding movie(burnt on one of my taiyo verb)?

Guess what?In fact it's not really on her stand alone player that she played the disc,tonight just went there together with my wife and have brought along with me the same disc that was supposed to get a lot of freezing and blocking on her player.Once there,i played the disc on her "crapy and unknowned branded" stand alone player completely till the end and there was no freezing nor blocking at all!It played perfectly same as on my philips player and on my same pioneer that was used to burn the movie!

It's then that her mum got into the scene and said that in fact they did not view the disc on the stand alone player but instead,on her dvd-rom drive found on her pc.Unfortunately that "friend" was not there else i would have invited myself to use her pc and check it.But let's say that it did really freeze and block on her dvd-rom drive,is there any possibility that the problem comes from her dvd-rom drive and actually not on my disc?

Is a dvd-rom drive not supposed to be more compatible with DVD+R than some pricky stand alone players?Because even on her stand alone player the disc(without being booktyped)played flawlessly!But what i think from my own opinion is that the problem does come from her dvd-rom drive.In fact i'm pretty sure that the brand of her dvd-rom drive is an unknown chinese one(because she just bought that ready-to-use pc and in china when you buy these kind of pcs you don't really know what's really inside!)What do you think about that Doc?

I know it's a lot of questions for this time,but i'm not rushing you,take all the time you need.Other members too are welcomed to say what they think about that.

Nice day to all of you!

Vincent.

most PC DVD-ROM drives play both DVD-R and DVD+R but some older ones DO NOT play DVD+R so this could def. be the problem.

Hi TY4ever
I'll pop in and give my 2 cents :)
Yep I would say the fault lies with her DVD-Rom not your disc.
It may be an older one that could use a firmware up to help it read newer media.
It also may be a bit dusty and the lens may need cleaning.
DVD-rom drives support +/- media usually (depending on how old they are though) but to check all of what is her's does support read wise you'd need to check the specs on the make and model.

@TY4ever

exactly what binkie7 said, LOL...i agree with her on ALL accounts/points that she made...it's NOT your disc that you burned, it's HER dvd-rom drive :) your standalone, your burner, her standalone are proof of that~

good to hear that your "friend's" standalone is NOT the culprit and that it CAN and WILL play your burned media just fine, now it's just a matter of getting that dvd-rom drive updated (firmware IF EVEN AVAILABLE) and we MAY have some success or MAYBE NOT if that dvd-rom drive is really THAT OLD and of low end build quality...ya never know~ :) if you do find out the manufacturer and model of that dvd-rom drive, we could help ya find a firmware IF the manufacturer is still in business or has updated firmware available on the web somewhere~ LOL

Thanks Binkie & Doc!

That's what i'm thinking too!Either her lens is dirty or may be she should consider about updatig her firmware.But i bet if she knows the meaning of updating her firmware.She's the one calling my dear taiyo made verbatim "crap" media!!!

Believe me,she's faaaaaaar away from being as knowledgeable as both of you concerning pc and yet she pretends to know everything on that.I'm afraid that if i try to help her out with her drive and if things happen to go wrong,she'll put all the blame on me,so better i stay quiet and stay far away from her.This really makes me sad for not helping her but she's definitely not that kind of person who accepts getting help from others.She thinks she can learn everything all by herself.

But anyway,thanks again for your replies,now i'm more than sure that nothing's wrong with my media.

P.S:And Doc,thanks a lot for promoting me and letting me join your "TY ARMY"!!!That's really coooooool!!!

Doc TY
I recently bought TO2 from SMS, I am having horrible problems with the quality of the disc, suppost to be there premium line not value.

Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Media Silver Thermal Lacquer in Cake Box Spindle (Premium Line)
Ratings:5of5
Product Code: DVD01X0165
Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden - Made In Japan
Media ID: TYG02
Mfr part #: DVD-R47ZZSB8

Worst disc's I have ever used, they sound like they are going to explode at spin-up.
Maxell, Sony, Memorex, No problems, just the TO2 do it, half the disc's it will not recognize that a disc is in drive after spin-up.
Lite-on 1633S, has burned thousands of movies on it, never had a problem before.
If I can't figure out why, will never buy another TY!
Have burned 150 of 400 I bought.
Any Ideas?
