@ Mort81 Were they the MIJ Maxell DVD+R's? If so I'll definitely want to pick some up.

@ aabbccdd
I tried the trial download of CloneDVD and AnyDVD. The problem with my TY-R is still there. Skip...jump...pause, etc in both players and again plays perfectly on my computer. Went to Best Buy earlier, hoping to find some MIJ Sony 25pk they have on sale for $7.99, NO GO, Everything in the 25pks were MIT in fact just about everything in the store was MIT, Verbs, Fuji, Maxell etc. I was able to find a few 50PK Sony MIJ (NOT ON SALE), for $39.99 so I got 1 of those while I was cursing in the checkout line, lol. They code as YUDEN000-T02. Tried one again..even though they are the same code Sonys I bought the last time, I wanted to be sure. They play perfectly in both players. At least I've got some to get me through till I can find some Verbs for a better price. This still blows my mind that my players will play any media I've ever thrown at it -R or +R even -RW, including the Yuden coded Sonys in the + format but won't play my authentic TY's in the - and I'm not booktyping. The mysteries of life haha. I'll get in touch with Meritine tomorrow to see about getting a refund on these. I think I'm going to stick with Verbs from now on. I had success with the DataLife Plus -R that I've tried. Any advice on getting Quality Verbs online. Does the MIJ vs MIT still apply with Verbs? is it possibe to tell which I'm getting when ordering online. I'm tired of driving across town and not finding what I want, haha. Is there a Verb thread here? I looked but couldn't find one. I know this probably isn't the right thread to ask that question but since I started my question here I thought someone might have some advice or could link me. Anyway again thanks for everybodys help last night. Every issue can't be resolved but it's nice to know people out there are willing to help. Catch you guys later.

hehehe definitely a mystery to me too...will play taiyo yuden DVD+R format, but will NOT play taiyo yuden DVD-R format...that is a 1st...simply incredible...
anyways, regarding your MIJ vs MIT, ABSOLUTELY NOT, it does NOT apply to Verbatims...wherever you can get the best price, i am willing to bet you will only find the MADE IN TAIWANS in the single layer and MADE IN SINGAPORE for the dual layer Verbatims~ :) the reason the MIJ vs MIT debate does not apply in this case, is that we here in the U.S. do not have the taiyo yuden produced Verbatims here and the UK does~ :)
so, it won't matter if you choose to order online, you will PROBABLY get the "made in taiwan" Verbs regardless of where you order them...same as buying them locally (best buy/circuitcity/compusa/office depot/officemax/etc.)
as a matter of fact, ALL my single layer Verbatims are MADE IN TAIWAN and all my DL Verbs are made in singapore...i've had terrific success with both.. :)
while you could "shop around" online for the best price on Verbatims, i personally would wait until the local stores have a sale...it's usually like $14.99 for a 50-pack, so it comes out to about $0.30/disc when on sale...i would utilize those EXPenSIvE Sony's that you just recently purchased (outta desperation i hope) until the next Verbatim sale... :)
anyways, good luck and burn on...
docTY~
@mort81
while that price is "ok" for the Maxells, i would wait for the Office Depot sales on Maxell, you will be paying a lot less if you are patient...$0.40/disc is considered kinda "high" these days with all the local sales dropping media prices down to the $0.25-$0.30 range when on sale :) while to SOME, $0.40 for Hitachi made Maxells MAY be worth it, but for me i personally wouldn't go outta my way at that price~ and for the MIT Maxells, i would DEFINITELY NOT pay $0.40/each for Ritek media when you can get them online for much cheaper if "budget media" is what you desire...

Thanks to you both. Good advice. It looks like my quest for quality verbs is going to be less complicated and should work out for me judging from my last experience with Verbs. Yes the OHH SOO expensive Sony purchase was out of despiration. Same as my last Sony purchase. But I knew they were quality, would work for me and it's close to an hour drive each way...yes I live in NothingNearBy, USA..so I went with them. The price on those MIT 25Packs Sonys looked very attractive though. I was going to pick up 4 of them if I could have found MIJ. Thanks for the advice again. Catch you later.
Grrr, considering what I just paid for these Sonys that Verb...Supermedia Price....I'm slapping myself, lol. I had to have them now though. I will definatly look around on my next purchase. Thanks for listing it.

Tokijin,
I didn't notice where the maxell's were made, sorry.
Hi Kiv,
Yeah I know that's still not a SUPER DEAL on the maxells but thought I would mention it for those desperate for some media. It's still quite a bit better than the sonys as I believe they were $39.95 for a 50 pk and they considered that a SPECIAL BUY.

"special buy" huh? wow, it's so special that they charge DOUBLE + a few dollars for what Sony's can be had for whenever on sale :) thanks for pointing out the Maxell's, it's been a long time since i've used any of them, might be in the neighborhood later this week and pick up a pack (MIJ of course) just to play around with. thanks~

I bought a 50pk of Verbatims X8 +R @Sam's Club for $14 and a 75 pack of Sony MIJ for about 25$. Not as good as on-line deals, but not too bad I guess.

Hey docTY~,
Remember those NEW Verbatim Dual Layers you sppoke of. I believe I have seen them at Best Buy. They say they Burn up to 10x! Made in Singapore too. I would Never burn at 10x on a Dual Layer, but I am wondering if these could be those New ones you mentioned a while back.
Best to you, bunnyrip

Do any of the Sony DVD-R's MIJ code out as TY's? I just bought a 50 pack of Sony DVD-R's MIJ for $25. The MIT's have worked out great for me, but I noticed they only had 50 pack of the MIJ Sony's so I said what the Hell? Cheers!

@bunnyrip
thanks for letting me know~! yeah, the 2 pieces i got directly from Japan were the MKM003 Verbatim DLs, you might just have found them now here in the U.S. locally~! are they the same price as the "regular" Verbatim DVD+R DLs? with diff. packaging? i haven't been to best buy or any of the other local retailers in a couple weeks, so i admit i have been behind on what's currently available~ :)
if you found them and if they go on sale as per "usual" Best Buy Verbatim 10-pack spindle for $19.99, let me know if you pick up a pack and run them thru a dvd identifier program~ :) next time i go to BB, i'll check myself for these new "gems" that you have found~ (IF they have them locally in my area) you got me all curious now as to what they identify as...hehe
thanks for the heads up though, i really appreciate it~ :)
@tokijin
boy, are you lucky or what? LOL...you got urself the "good stuff" in those Sony 8x DVD-R MIJs...sometimes we have this "hunch" about media, you were RIGHT ON about yours at the time of purchase...congrats~ :)

Yeah I happened to notice that Wal-Mart had some MIJ Sony's the other day. I didn't buy any. I went to staples looking for the DVD+R MIJ Maxells or Sony's, nada. So I went back to Wal-Mart, bought the last 50 spindle if MIJ Sony DVD-R's, and voila. As luck would have it they're TY's. Cheers!

Yeah that's where I order the unbranded official TY's. I order the 8x Unbranded DVD-R's. I recently found out my PS2 can handle DVD+R's booktyped to DVD-ROM fine, so I may switch to the TY 8x DVD+R's. These may be my next purchase: http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-me...
$70 for the 8x DVD-R's and free shipping is a helluva deal. .35 cents a disc for TY's, not bad. I like to burn at 4x, so go with the 8x. I could probably burn at max speed on the 4x fine, but I've had terrific results at 4x on 8x DVD-R's, so why tempt fate? Cheers!

i'll "kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone" on this one...hehehe
Quote: Tokijin the value pack all code out as TYGO2s now if you want to save even more
while aabbccdd has a VERY valid point, you will NOT get the TYG02s 100% of the time, reason being is these "value discs" have been "reordered" by various online retailers, so Taiyo Yuden started producing them to fill the need...supply and demand my friends; the NEWEST batch that has been fulfilled by Taiyo Yuden are ALL the 16x rated dvd-r, or the TYG03s for those of you who are interested in knowing the media ID coding~ :)
if you get the TYG02s when you order now, (from supermediastore, meritline, rima) you will pretty much be depleting the last remaining stock of the "old batch" of these "ValueDiscs" or the 8x rated ones, TYG02 as aabbccdd pointed out~ BUT, if these online retailers are doing as well as i THINK they are, you will most likely be receiving something from their "new batch" of TYs, namely the TYG03s~ :)
this only applies to their "value discs" or the ones found here for example:
http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-media-silver-matt...
notice the Media Id coding they have up, you COULD possibly get any of the 3 there~ with the TYG01s being ALMOST impossible to attain these days, with the TYG02s becoming more scarce and your highest percentage of getting the TYG03s :)
Media ID: TYG01/TYG02/TYG03
Mfr part #: DVD-R47VAL600SK <~~~ notice the Mfr part #, this is a different line of discs produced by Taiyo Yuden.
but, if you order these:
http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-me...
you are ASSURED the TYG02s as these are the ones being sold in the cakebox~
Media ID: TYG02
Mfr part #: DVD-R47ZZSB8 <~~~~ notice the part # again...these are the CORE of Taiyo Yuden's produced discs and these are the ones bought by companies such as Fuji and Sony, and "relabelled" with their own logo/brand and sold to the general public under their own "branding" :)
when shopping for Taiyo Yudens locally, at least under the Fuji brand (these findings are based on a few months ago-as i haven't bought any media locally since the Fuji colored 30-pack @ staples when they had their sale) specifically look at the cakebox...i know Fuji uses these contoured cakeboxes to house their Taiyo Yudens in...this is apparent with a somewhat "fatter/round bottom base", i found this to be true in the 30-pack colored Fujis, the 50-packs, AND the 100-packs; i personally never bought any media smaller than the 30-pack locally, so, i don't know for the 25-pack spindles~ :) if i see that "fat" base, i don't even have to look for the "made in japan" as i will already know just looking at the cakebox it comes in...just a tip for you guys next time u go looking for TYs, i don't know if Fuji has changed their cakebox packaging, but this held true almost ALL last year...
bear in mind, Sony's TYs are NOT in this "specially contoured cakebox"...i have a few hundred 8x Sony dvd+r MIJ YUDEN000T02s but the base looks IDENTICAL to the made in taiwan bases...on Sony media, that is where you need to look carefully ON THE WRAPPER for the "made in japan" if you are in search of Taiyo Yuden produced Sony media~ :)
and to tokijin, i literally have thousands of those "value discs" from supermediastore, that is primarily what i bought before when the TYG01s were readily available..they work great FOR ME...they are def. legit~ they ARE made in japan by Taiyo Yuden, no need to worry about authenticity there, whether your preference is for the 8x rated dvd-r TYG02s or not, THAT is where you need to make a decision to buy either the first link i have up (where you COULD possibly get the TYG02s if that's what you are after, but these days most likely you will get the TYG03s with the value discs) OR the 2nd link which are guranteed to be the TYG02s in the cakebox~ :)
some people have their "preference" of which TYs they use, because they have had MORE success with certain formats/rated speeds in the past...why fix something that ain't broke right? if you desire the TYG02s that you've had tremendous success with thus far, i suggest the 2nd link here:
http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-me...
as you will be certain to get what you want~
hope that clarifies a bit for you guys regarding TY~ :) cheers

Once again doc takes us to TY school lol. Thanks for the useful info. Yeah I wouldn't chance the value discs, the TYG03's aren't good for the PS2. 16x media causes the PS2 all types of issues. I'll stick with the TYG02, next time I'll think I'll just order a 200 pack and use them for all around burning. The MIT Sony's have worked well for me (better than RitekG05 by a long shot), but I really don't want to use media made outside of Japan if I have a choice (except for Verbs). Does anybody know any reputable sites that carry the MIJ Maxell DVD+R's? I really like them, and it's good to have some media variety. I can only get 5 packs locally, that's an absolute waste, even for the MIJ Maxells. Thanks again for all the info. Cheers!

no, there hasn't been any issues with the TYG03s that i know of (in general), SOME people have issues with them, but it's MODEL SPECIFIC, meaning some of the Liteon burners don't like them, but i haven't heard of any problems with the Plextor model that you are currently using~ :)
assuming people keep their firmware updated, only some of the older drives with "less than adequate" firmware updates from their respective manufacturers should be affected by the TYG03s :) i personally have not had ANY problems with the TYG03s on my multiple drives/burners~
as long as the TYG02s are working well for you, i see no reason to worry~ the introduction of the new batch of TYG03s in the value discs has been fairly recent, TY only started sending these out to the online retailers in the last few months, reason some people are getting the TYG02s still is the "pipe" / inventory from before (previous "batch" of value discs) is still being shipped out to customers as orders come in...guess they gotta get rid of the "old" before they start with the "new" hehe; not that there is ANYTHING wrong w/ the "older" batch, i have plenty of the "older batch" still left and will continue to use them with confidence until i need to order more~
