I've read a number of guides on running PSX games on PSP, but a couple of things remain unclear.
All I want to do is get Ogre Battle PSX up and running. I converted the file with PSX2PSP. The last step of the guide for that was merely to move it to the X:/PSP/GAME folder. When I run the PSP and go to games, however, it claims there are no games present. Did I jack up the installation somewhere along the line, or do I need an as-yet-unmentioned frontend program to run this? More specifically, /is/ Popsloader a frontend program for running PSX games (a'la ZSNES for SNES games), or is this just a compatibility agent?
I'm on a slim PSP 3.90m33-3, and other iso-type games (non-PSX) loaded at the same time as the pandora's battery seem to load and run fine without a frontend.

@Sadalfas
after converting your game you end up with 2 files, one EBOOT.PBP and one KEYS.BIN and you should put those files in X:/PSP/GAME/'gamename'/. if your converted files don't match these two it won't show (in my experience).
to run the eboot (game) you need popsloader which is NOT an emulator, popsloader is actually a software that lets you choose which version of pops you want to use to emulate your game on your psp.
and i believe pops is the PSOne emulator.
for example final fantasy VI works great on firmware 3.03 but doesn't load saves on higher firmwares and final fantasy VII works perfect on firmware 3.71 but glitches and lags on other firmwares. and now just so that you don't have to use the pops from your actual firmware and have games crashing, you install popsloader.
basically i don't think your problem is with popsloader, but most probably from the conversion..

Ha. Turns out my primary issue was that I put the eboot straight in the /PSP/GAME folder, not in /PSP/GAME/OGREBATTLE. It works relatively fine now.
The only hiccup is that it doesn't seem to be able to play music and sounds at the same time. For example, when fighting, the battle music starts over every time someone makes an attack. Is this likely something popsloader could correct?

yes, popsloader will fix that you now have to try out every version of pops and hopefully find one that lets you play the game smoothly. if you haven't tried them yet, i suggest you check out 3.71 and 3.73 (i think), those two made quite a few games of mine work well.. of course i found that there are almost always some minor glitches, especially when you put the game in "full screen" mode.. but well, it's nothing that'll spoil the fun ;)

Wait, so I can make the game play full-screen? Right now, I've got a black box around it that takes up about 1/3 of the screen.

yes, as acidy said, you can put it full screen, but it just stretches the image so you might even see the pixels in somme games, it's not real widescreen view, and the game might have some minor glitches graphic-wise.
anyway just press "home" button while playing the psx game > go to "other settings" > change values of "screen mode".

I'm following ths guide, but I'm getting an error on this step:
Quote: 5. Now, go the "Game" menu on your PSP and run the "PSAR Dumper" and press the "Square" button on your PSP to begin extracting the decrypted firmware files.
The error is "Error 0x80020148 loading/starting pspdecrypt.prx."
I'm running the 4.01 m33-2 firmware on my psp slim, and I've downloaded the 3.80m33 popsloader, the 3.80 psar dumper, and the 3.71 firmware.
What am I doing wrong?

Hey man :)
Well, you'll have to find an updated dumper :)
{time for me to Update my guide =_=)
Use THIS psardumper to dump the files :)
But then there'll be a new folder called "DUMP" at the ROOT of your memory stick in which you can find all the popsloader *.prx files there :)

You can use this http://www.mediafire.com/?cijqd11myt4, all the files it is here, dont need dumper nothing, only extract using 7zip (use extract here), copy the archive to psp root and active the plugin postation in safe mode. work fine to me im play ff7 on 3.71 fwr. Please moderate add my link in mirror section.

What is your PSP's firmware ??? :)
Also, you need to put the game in the "ms0:\PSP\GAME" folder of your PSP :)

Hey just curious, but will you do this for 5.00 Pops? Cause I really don't know what I'm doing at all. Games won't start at all for me anymore ever since I put in the new 5.00 M33-3. I'm a total new person when it comes to this and I was just pretty much lost throughout the entire guide.

^I dunno you guys, but I tried both of your links, downloaded them, put both folders in after I tried each and they're not working for me. Even when I hold the R Button as my PSX game boots up, the different version of Pops won't come up at all.
Am I missing something?
