After five minutes on standby, then fan went to step two, and five minutes later two times overheat and then YLOD.

Have anybody had luck fixing it twice?
Yes did mine about 3 times before it worked and continued to work

just like to tell everyone how i got the ps3 working after 3 trys and 6 hours work into the middle of the night. Followed colins instructions on opening the ps3 first time i heated the chips circuits for 15 seconds on 350 heat small amount of paste on chips no good. Second time did the same only heated the chips 350 heat for 25 seconds small amount of paste on chips again tried it no good. Thrid time opened ps3 again but the only thing i did different was heat the chips for about 40 seconds or around that it was no less than 40 and no more than 50 let it cool again put paste on chips didnt clean paste of metal squares on fan heatsinks put it together switched it on and it worked could'nt beleive it had worked i was thinking it would never work I WAS PUT WRONG .... also i worked on fixing for 6 hours around that heated the chips three times within these 6 hours used isopropyl alcohol which took me a while to find tried about four chemists used nano thermal grease made by titan the two items cost me £3.30 there you go i saved £146.70 by using colins works thanks again colin. I will keep posting on the ps3 playing hope this also helps someone.:):):):):)

Yes guys colin is right... every system has different kinds of ylod... i got some results after heating for like 2 minutes each "zone" and believe me at 1000 F... it worked for almost 2 hours.. so im gona try for 3 minutes.... the thing is maybe mine got like very hot and it need to be at that kind of temperature... i really have no clue of what the "universal" solution is for this problem but im sure that thanks to colin we now are almost sure about how to fix it.... so keep tryyyyy!!!

What I had seen while searching on the web about the F@#$%^*g YLOD it's that they're two possible causes on the YLOD.
1. Motherboard Failure-
Solutions:
a.Reflow GPU and RSX as we been shown
by MR. Colin on his guide:

b.Buy a new/used motherboard on ebay ( Great % of happening again) Thanks Mr. Colin for your support!!!!!!!!!

2. Power supply : here is a video that i find quite interesting
and the comments on the blog will help us to diagnose much better our systems:

I could say that it's a 50%/50% of chance that it's one thing or the other or even both; so if you see a little of recover on ur PS3 try the next step

Don't Give Up We're so close .....

Got U MANIPULATED!!!!!!

Let me give a little more detail. I reflowed the CPU and GPU and then reassembled the PS3 turned it on and it powered up fine, but i had forgotten to plugh the fan in and it over heated again after about 5 minutes.
I tried to reflow 2 more time but got YLOD on both occasions.
I reflowed a 3rd time and there was no YLOD but I am now not getting any audio or video from the machine.
The machine will read discs buut now output anything.

Any Suggestions???

So Close But yet so Far Away

I thought I had made real progress last night. I reflowed the GPU after not getting any Audio or Video from the machine on Monday and lo and behold I started to get video and sound from the machine, albeit pixelated, so I reflowed the GPU again and I was back to where i started.
I decided to reflow both chips again after thea and now I am really back to where I started with the YLOD rearing its ugly head again.
What am I going to do????

Give up???

NEVER

I am not going to let this bastard beat me. Perseverance thy name is Michael.

due to the amount of times you have reflowed you ps3 i suggest you apply a little flux before you next reflow attempt!

you may have dryed out the solder!!!!

cheers gilksy

Hi there Colin,
What do you mean by apply some flux???

Cheers Mate

flux comes in fluid form and it helps the solder reflow better!

you should be able to get it from maplin the the form of a flux pen
you will have to pump the pen onto the board next to the bgas and tilt the board so that it runs under the bga.
then reflow as before and that should help

after to many reflows what happens is the flux thats already in the solder paste burns away and the solder when it hardens gets lots of little fractures in it.

good luck
gilksy

I just got the Grizzly H0800 heat gun on amazon. How do I know what temp I need to use to heat the motherboard? What setting you did that would help me? I can't figure out the setting on this heat gun. DO I have to reflow in on both side of the motherboard? Could I use the bathroom floor as the heat resistance floor to put my ps3 to use the heat gun?
