It's pretty normal to have to pay for shipping on returns. If you ever read the fine print on return policies, you're also subject to a 15% restocking fee at a site's discretion. Even reputable sites like newegg have policies like that. Just sounds like you had a bad experience with sms.com. It's understandable you'd be upset, but that isn't the norm for sms, just one of those things.

I don't have a picture of a Sony branded TY T02, but I can tell you what to look for to verify that they are TYs. My 8X +Rs Sonys have in the clear inner hub "Sony Corporation" and opposite is DVD+R Ver.1.2/1X-8X now on the reverse side in inner purple ring tiny numbers TG001162 and opposite is 0519. The TG number is the identifier according to Doc TY. This number is hard to see; magnifing glass helps, and light has to be right. These TG00xxxxs are the very best.JM2C
Edit: Doc Ty lists the codes for all TYs in the very first post in the thread!

@garmoon
the 10 sample disc Ty sent they are 8x and has the same inner code as your sony's do TG001162. mine are directly from TY.and yours are stamped with sony's name on them.
so if the disc shipped from ty code out as the ones that are sent to differnet vendors to have there name put on them i seriously doubt TY is putting out inferiour disc by the bulk load to decieve people.
@docTY
where are ya buddy we need some insight.come back leave cdfreaks alone we need you more.....

tokijin, good point.
teflonmyk, here is the batch number on all 4 spindles, I checked all 4 and all the disc's have the same number, TG000040, now if there are any other numbers I should know about let me know, anyway, today I went out and optained a bunch of movies and made a bunch of copies, I burned 14 straight ty's today and not one failure, I know it's great, I had a good day today, but the part I hate most is I hope I don't run into another 4 or 5 bad one's 20 burns later, I'd rather just find out they all suck and get rid of all them instead of, oh well whats the next 5 burns gonna be like.

Creaky, thank you very much for the info, but already done that, I've tried many things, actually blowing out the computer was the first thing I did, took the whole damn thing apart, cleaned everything, I've just come to the conclusion that I did get a bad batch, I'm sure it happins to the best of them, like I said before you don't hear much about bad ty's, who knows maybe the guy that worked on this batch maybe didnt get laid for a while who knows what the problem is, I just hope it's a fluke and doesnt happin on a regular basic, anyway, I did a lot of burns today and maybe the luck will continue.

you can find sony's just about anywhere. you just need to look where they ar made on the side of the package. you want it to say Made In Japan=MIJ. allmost everytime they say MIJ it will have a white octagnal spacer on the top if you get them 2 thing together you cant go wrong. but lately around me it is hard to find the 8x mostly everything is going to the 16x speed's. i have found it easier to find the dvd-r's MIJ than the DVD+R...

My local Staple's actually had TYG03 on sale for .33 a disc, couldn't pass that up, bought a 50 pack. Man I wish +R's were on sale locally sometimes.

@Fredburn, be careful and look for the Made in Japan label on them, about 75% of what I saw in my area store were Made in Taiwan, Both labels look almost identical, so good luck and read your labels to avoid the other media.

I'm in FL Garmoon. The cheapest you can get DVD+R's locally (outside of Sam's Club) is $29.99 for 50, which is obviously a rip off. I've paid it more times than I care to admit. I've got about 65 Yuden000T02's left. When I get low on those, I'm going to order some 8x Verb DVD+R's from meritline, I've actually never used them, always wanted to give them a whirl. I have no doubt they'll be just as good as my beloved Yuden000T02's. Anyways, long since liberated of the 4x burning demon, here's some Xbox backups freshly burned at 8x.

Yeah being in a mid sized town doesn't help. We do have the 75 Yuden000T02's available for $25 at Sam's Club. A yearly membership is $40. The only thing I would ever buy there is DVD Media, so I can't justify the $40. I've tried buying stuff there without a membership, and they won't allow it. I guess they don't want my money.
I have about 53 Yuden000T02's left. When I go through those, it's time to check out some MCC03 from meritline. I've been overdue to check those out anyway. I've only burned a handful of Verb 8x DVD-R's, but they all worked very well and had nice scores, and great playback according to the person I burned them for. I only burn games to DVD+R, actually excited at the prospect of trying them out.

lots of fakers use TYG02 as it's a widely supported write strategy in burner firmware
