Hi to All Wii Fanatics,
I'm a newbie here.
Thanks to all those who have contributed valuable tips and comments on this forum, I have managed to successfully perform a backup!!! :)
So this is my success formula:
Application used:
Raw dump 2.0 - application to dump Wii games into ISO format
.net Framework 2.0 - required to run Raw dump
Nero - to burn the ISO image
Hardware used:
LG GDR-8164B - One of the very few DVD-rom drive that can read a Wii disk as mentioned in this thread.
LG GSA-5163D - to burn the ISO image into a blank DVD disk. For burning image, there is no specific requirements mentioned. So folks out there, this is not the only writer to burn the image.
Disk used:
LG DVD +R 8x - (Took the risk to burn @ 4x (5,540 KB/s) as I only have the option to burn either @ 4x or 8x. Decided to choose the slower speed. Will probably try to burn @ 8x the next time.)
Time taken to complete a backup:
Dumping - around 4.5 hrs
Burning ISO image - 15 mins
Have fun!!!

Overflow seems to always be related to a problem with the disk. You say the disk has no scratches, but I would clean it and try again.

Probably any of them, I haven't had any problems with both a WiiKey Clone and WiiD.
Whats the best dvd rom drive to rip the wii games?
Any one of them that is listed on the first page of this thread.
Whats the best softwares to use?
There are only 2 choices: RawDump 2.0 or FriiDump.
RawDump has been out for a while and takes approx. 2.5 hours to read/dump a game.
FriiDump is new and open-source. I use RawDump because it has always worked for me.

I had the same problem but found my answer on page 2 of this thread. Posted by jeff_73ca and I quote from him the following answer. Thanks Jeff worked great. ( be sure to do both devices when you are resetting the transfer mode. I did not try the first option. Good luck )

ok i fixed my error problem but in case anyone else gets this error here's how you fix it:
1) you could possibly use 0.4 version of rawdump this will eliminate the error
or
2) go into device manager and click on IDE ATA then right click on primary IDE channel and select advanced setting , from there set your transer mode to " PIO only "
this worked like a charm for me hope this helps others"

No special burner is needed ANY BURNER WILL BURN THE ISOS. The reader is the one that matters. Do not let anyone tell you any different. Kinda reading the forum isnt quite reading it proper else you would have known this but you aint the first to ask and you sure wont be the last. Good Luck with the ripping.

Please read the thread properly. The first page clearly states:
