Make sure that you have the current versions of all the progs that you listed. DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are no longer being developed so upgrades well not be available again, but they should be able to handle the encryption on all of the movies you mentioned. Make sure that those discs you are trying to backup are free of dirt and scratches.
The disc is War of the Worlds that I am trying to do now. I pretty much give up on the other three. I burned a successful copy of WOTW yesterday yet today I started getting that CRC error today. The disc is brand new and it worked yesterday so should I start thinking its my DVD-ROM and a dirty lazer or what? Appreciate it buddy.

Could be a bad press, or you could try cleaning the laser. The good copy you made works fine on your set top player?

Yeah I watched it fine last night. I just used Decrypter to decrypt as an ISO file and it successfully completed it. Now I am trying to burn it as an ISO file with Decrypter yet its saying there isnt enough disk space or something like that and asking me if I wanna continue anyways.

Hi I read all of this thread and I tried the new settings scuba pete mentioned.
Here is my pc specs:
Windows OS: XP Professional all the updates :) (stupid gates)
LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B (CD 126X Rd, 40X Wr) (DVD 16X Rd, 5X Wr) (Firmware A105) not sure if thats the newiest but thats what I updated it to)
2 x 512 DDR
Processor

Model Number : 3000 (estimated)
Mainboard
Bus(es) : AGP PCI USB i2c/SMBus

System BIOS : Phoenix Technologies, LTD ASUS A7N8X-X ACPI BIOS Rev 1011

Total Memory : 1GB DDR-SDRAM
Hard Disk : WDC WD1200JB-00FUA0
Hard Disk : WDC WD800BB-00JHC0
both drives are NTFS
Problem is with the bonus CD from Star Wars Episode 3 - Charlotte_DISK2 the problem being I get a redunancy error with it and after doing a deep analysis it stops at around 33% sometimes a bit sooner, then i get this message saying D:\redunacy error thing.
So now I tried using DVD Decrypter first changing the settings to what Scuba Pete said , making the VIDEO_TS folder then going ahead. Is it save to go to DVD Shrink with these errors from DVD Decrypter?

I am using DVD Shrink 3.2
I am using DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
and having AnyDVD running in the background which I got because I couldnt back up my star wars bonus dvd it didnt work netiher did DVD43 didnt work either. Nothing is working I get the same error messge.
Media I am using to burn is Staples Bussiness Depot DVD-R
I had no problems with these brand of dvd-r's at all. Just having this error message with Star Wars 3 bonus CHAROLLETTE_DISK2 only.
Any help or tutorials on this matter would be nice, and thanks for everyones time and patience in this thread and all the threads here. I also got the Star Wars Revenge of The Sith DVD from Zellers. Both discs play find in all my players, being my pc's or dvd player in my living room. Movie disc and bonus disc all play fine.
Thanks in Advance. (I am a PC tech) so using big words is ok :P)

This is gunna sound weird but I had the same problem. I solved it by telling Alcohol 120% to dump the contents to my comp, which made it spin the disk, then cancelled alcohol and while the comp was still spinning the disk i started shrink and i didnt get the CRC error!!!

When I opened DVD Decrypter to decrypt the files I got a yellow warning sign when I starte dDVD Decrypter. This is what popped up when I opened up DVDD
I 19:26:17 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4.0 started!
I 19:26:17 Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (5.0, Build 2195 : Service Pack 4)

I 19:26:17 Initialising SPTI...
I 19:26:17 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt
1. Open Command Prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
2. In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs
For example, typing convert D: /fs:ntfs would format drive D: with the ntfs format. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command.
Important Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data, including programs and personal files, on the partition.

Have had similiar problems even after cleaning the disk, checking for scratches etc. ConeDVD would not respond to the disk because of the redundance error. What I did was use DVD FAB to decrypt the disk and then used DVD Shrink to encode those files so the program would copy it to a standard 4.7g disk. It worked perfectly. As a side note after decrypting the files I did try to use ConeDVD to burn the files. Unfortunately, CloneDVD indicated the files were in an unrecognizable format and wouldn't read the decrypted data.

Love DVD Shrink, Decryptor, and DVDFAB Decryptor. The only occassional problem I have is sometimes on the last 1/4 of the movie it will freeze or skip. I am burning at 2X speed and compressing to 4,330 MB. Should I be compressing to a lesser MB?
Another strange fact is I have had NO Problems with a cheapo DVD player I bought for the bedroom. I'd like to buy another same DVD player but nobody sells the brand anymore. My expensive player gives me an infrequent problem. Are more expensive players more sensitive or what?
Great site here, by the way.

Sounds like bad media. Always use verbatim, tany yuden, or ritek. Use Nero cd/dvd tool and it will tell ya the true maker of the disc. 99.8% percent of the time is bad media causing the skipping at the end as the dye tens to get thin and uneven there.:>

Just use DVD Decrypter in iso read and then open your MDS file and do iso write. The disk is already compressed there is no need for Shrink.

Thank You. That was what I thought to do but wanted to make sure.
One other thing, today I backed up 3 movies and all 3 either froze or gave me a goofy pattern on the screen in the final 5 minutes of the movie. All a different movie.
I know that people blame this on bad media, due to the dye on the end of the disc but I am using Verbatim discs. The discs screw up in my expensive player but not my cheapo $30 player. Strange.
I compress at 4300 MB. I am going to try and compress at say 4000 and see what happens. I'd appreciate anybody's opinion on doing this. I am going to backup the same movie at this setting and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'll just go and buy another cheapo player. Kind of a shame though cause the movie quality is great except for those final 5 minutes. Anyway, this is a great site. Lots of smart people here.

4000 may be a bit extreme and possibly cause an even worse copy because the compression will be greater. What is the compression on the 3 movies that you have backed up?
Oops...just read the part about backing up a backup copy. You may be losing something, quality wise, from the original disc. If it a compression issue though, try removing everything you don't need, such as subtitles, all audio except AC3 5.1, and maybe even just do the main movie in reauthor mode (remove the menues and special features).

hi
I am sorry but i am not as advanced as you are.
I still cannot copy using DVD Shrink, and has happened to the second movie now, so i presumed it is a copy defence mechanism, rather then a one off. As in the first one, DVD Shrink start taking memory up till the system crashes.
If you don't mind, could you tell me how to burn using dvd fab decrypt. I also have Nero on my computer.
thanks

One thing that is important to realize is that DVDShrink is incredibly CPU intensive. When running shrink make sure that all other applications that can be shut down are shut down. Do not use the internet, turn off antivirus, spyware, popup blockers, anything that is running in the background that does not need to be.
I personally would consider a Ram upgrade to 1g. Adding another 512mb chip would greatly improve your ability. The Windows application uses up to 128mb of RAm to run, your DVD-RW will require from 128mb to 512mb like mine does so you can see that there is not a lot left for Shrink to utilize.
Ram is cheap. You will have much better success if you upgrade.

Hi
thanx for your response.
I have tried to run DVD Shrink after shutting down all other programs but the problem persists. Windows has a section of hard disk that uses as RAM, mine goes up to 2 gig. The problem is that dvd shrinks uses it up and when it passes the 2 gig level, the process is stopped automatically by windows.
I have also shrank movies before using my system, while all other programs were running and it was fine. My worry is that maybe the movie companies have put a code or something that won't release RAM after a cycle and system end's up crushing.
Thank you

@sn0m, I have 640 MB of ram installed and never ran out of memory while using Shrink. I don't use it any more but I think something on you system is using your resources. Check for spyware or adware on your system. Also here is a good guide from ScubaPete to look at if you haven't already read it. He covers several ways of backing up a dvd.
Good Luck.
