his method is much more reliable,
1)-boot sm cd disk
2)-load dvdloader (on cd-r media).
3)-press eject
4)-insert sm dvd disk (TOC DVD refresh)
wait 7-8 seconds
5)-swap for backup(EA METHOD SCREEN)
6)-press x.
I just did it this way and it still freezes when loading my brothers saved spot, I burned it @2x. I'm going to make another gow backup and see what happens.

Higuys you are INCORRECT
From swapmagicfix.com
1) CDLoader FiXes are images that must be burned to a CDR and swapped in-between your original Swap Magic 2.0 CD and your PS2 game back-up.
With that being stated, insert your Swap Magic CD Disc into your PS2 and at the prompt pictured use your Flip-Top PS2 Cover or Slide Card tool
to switch your Swap Magic CD Disc for your CDLoader CDR disc. Once the swap is made, press X on the controller to load the CDLoader software.

Actually the first way you said it Jizmak it works and also there is a different way from swapmagicfix.com to create the game to work with SM 2.0.
Anyways I get it to load and play. I did freeze at the beginning part right after the cinematics of getting on Kronos's back it freezes at the first part, I didn't let it load for 10 minutes I really didn't have time. I'm trying to get GT4 to my HDD threw my PC as well. Anyways if anyone had a similar problem plz let me know. Thx!

L-Burna, I watched your sample, you are the man! I'd say as few files as you HAVE to compress to make the size fit, the better it'd be.
I still have the original full, dual layer image on my hard drive, and I'm anxious for a tested method to convert, compress, re-build that down to fit on a DVD-5 so I can access all the bonus content using my backup.
Lucky for me, I haven't beat the game yet, so hopefully this will be worked out before I start to get withdrawals (sp).
Hursty, the main point where the backup will hang for a few minutes is after the second necklace is obtained, which is way after the point of summoning the titan. I haven't gotten there yet, but I'm keeping track of the awesome work these guys are doing and it's stated a couple of times in this thread. If you are hanging there and it never comes back, chances are you mis-linked a file during rebuild and your backup is flawed. Good luck.
So, L-burna/Jizmak//sbofen....
Which utilities do I need to get my hands on to follow in your footsteps? I have all the ones needed to follow the Sonix method, so I just need names of the additional ones, like pssplex, or blaze media etc.. Just a full list so I have what I need to do what you are working on now.
Thanks,
haZe

What I am doing is compressing the videos by half with cubemediaplayer. Then using Blaze Media to convert the file to a .M2V file.Once that is done I use PSSPlex to join the .wav file that is with the movie and the compressed movie.

I have the cubemedia player, any tips on where I can get those other tools? Seems like you have the most comprehenive experience out there so far. [Edit, my own post hyperlinked me to TMPGenc at one time anyways-can i get links to the others?] [Edit 2: should I use TMPGEnc 2.524 or 3.1.5?]
So do I need TMPGenc? You said you only use it on some, would you say that using it is mandatory? Or coud one just stick with the combo of Cubemedia/Blazemedia/PSSPlex?
This may seem like a silly question but I've never used those tools so...When you use PSSPlex to join the .wav with the .M2V is the resulting file a .pss? And once you have it, is it just a matter of replacing the original 'big' .pss with the rebuilt 'small' .pss?
At what stage of the Jizmak/Sonix process would one interject your methods? After the initial extraction/usage of the Sonix tool?
I'm piecing it all together, good luck and DEFINITELY let us know when you have a fully compressed working backup.
Jizmak, what is the cd in your signature? Created without bonus or 'fully rebuilt' with bonus content? Just curious.
Thanks again guys,
haZe

Yeah that is pretty much what I stick to CubeMedia2/BlazeMediaPro/PSSPlex there are a couple of the movies that are encoded though. So that is when I use TMPGEnc to extract the movie,so if you run into one of the movies that are encoded use this method TMPGenc/CubeMedia2/BlazeMediaPro/PSSPlex and it should do the same thing create a .AVI file and a .wav file.PSSPlex makes a .pss file from the .M2V file and the .wav file. When I am finish with compressing all the videos it will just be extract from Sonix tool. Then delete and replace with the compressed movies in the Extracted folder.Once that is done just rebuild and it should come out perfect, doesn't even need relinking when you keep the Bonus videos also. When you do the compression in CubeMedia2 just select the Video codec Cinepak codec by Radius. Then click on the Choose codec button when you find the Video codec mentioned above, right under all the Codecs you can choose from there should be a quality setting, just set it to 5,000 from 10,000 to make it half. Then drag and drop the .pss file you want to compress into CubeMedia2,and tell it to convert pick your folder on your desktop to save the .AVI and .WAV file to.Wait for it to finish, then use Blaze Media Pro to convert to .M2V which can be found actually on here in the software section.Once you finish converting the .AVI file to .M2V you can take your compressed .M2V file and use PSSPlex. In PSSPlex choose the option Mulitplex which will build a new .pss file.I used TMPGEnc on a couple of vids reason why is because some are encoded.I hope this helps you out, most of it is just time consuming to be honest. You have to wait for the compression that is the worse part. After waiting on the compression though, everything else after that is pretty easy.

Awesome man, I just didnt know what sections those downloads would be in, but if they're all there, I will find them.
Do you happen to know which vids were compressed, and required TMPGEnc? If not, what will be the indicator that I've hit one of those?

Yeah dude one of them is the BONUS03 video I am sure of it,you can use cubemediaplayer but the outcome isn't right.TMPGEnc takes the inside video of the .pss files.CubeMedia2 you can use to extract all the .wav files.I have gone through so many though I really don't remember the videos I extracted with TMPGenc(not alot of vids are encoded though so not really a big hassle).A good indication if you run into one of the encoded video files,is by playing them back right after you are done.If the movie doesn't match up with the original,it is garbage and then you have to switch to TMPGEnc to extract the true state of the movie.Sometimes it will be the real movie right, but just scattered in pieces.I am not sure what they did with the encoding, but on some of them they like TMPGEnc the best when extracting the true state to work with. All I can say is make sure to compare some of the videos with the originals before leaving it alone, because on some you might not have it right. That is the best advice I can give you man, most of it is just time consuming so you will definately need some time to work on it.Good Luck

Sounds good, so TMPGEnc is just an extra, up front step which handles videos that are already compressed on the original DVD-9 right?
If I go through this, I will make a note of which files are compressed so I can report back.
I hope to help develop/document the final GOW DVD-9 compression guide to let others backup the full game without giving up content. Even though Im doing very little of the work, it's good to help. I can't understand why I seem to be the only noob chomping at the bit for this.

There is actually one thing that you don't have Jizmak, the game that is located in the Treasure section of the game.I don't think it is playable is it with Sonix method, because everytime you click on something in the Treasure menu it freezes right. It is still cool though bro,you are not missing anything to be honest. It is suppose to be a game to unlock more features.

So you're saying you have what I've asked for a few times in this thread? A dvd with bonus content only? Good to know.
So, would you mind sharing your method? As I discussed with sbofen, it seems relatively the same as the sonix method, but just stripping out different content, but the devil is in the details.

Actually it was my first copy without the second layer.
I didnt know there was a problem until level 4.
That was when i tried the sonix tool.
I didnt care about the bonus movies per se,
But i didnt want to throw it away either.
So I ended up keeping it for the bonus movies.
It is a 1:1 copy using DVD Decrypter of layer 0.

Hey Bros Got a question for you - (Jizmak) since u seem like you know a fair bit about the rebuild process of god of war. I followed Sonix guide up to the point where you go to record in cddvdgen (using version 1.5)it says: "Aspi Manager loading failed". This happens everytime i try it, not sure what to do.........PLEASE HELP!!
